Project Silver Bullet: 240Z LS1 update
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
WOW DAVID!! You are soooo close, you can taste it! Seems like the shop doing the work is on top of it. After the exhaust is done are you gonna drive it back to them to finish up? Sound like you will be cruising this weekend!!! JOEY P.S. You will "Enjoy the ride!" -
Hey DaEvil!! Install looks really clean! Are you using John's Kit? Would like to here or see more. I also live in Concord, My shop is located in Orinda. I was actually in your neck of the woods yesterday at the Hot Antioch Nights car show in the LS1 Z. I was the only import and the only car in the whole show with a LS1 swap! Keep in touch and updated! JOEY P.S. Or I'll be out at infinion wednesday (dropping down to the 11's) or I can grab that MAS280 guy (just kidding Mike) and we can take a cruise in my Z to see your Z on a sunday.

LS1 JTR headers hit stock fuel and brake lines on 78 280
LS1 Z replied to DaleMX's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Hummm... Had to go look at my car to see whats different. My brake line is mounted on top of the frame rail. By the looks of your car Dale, it would be underneith your harness. Fuel lines on mine go up the firewall over to where the brake and clutch masters are. Thats were my F.P. regulator is mounted! JOEY -
Project Silver Bullet 240Z LS1 Update
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
RIGHT ON!!! DAVID! I totally agree with BARTMAN on his P.S. On your speedo converter... The directions that come with the box are totally confusing (i'm sure the shop will agree). Give them a call and get there tec support. Tha gal I delt with, I think her name was Dana (could be wrong). Told me a very easy way to calibrate the box. Totally different from the directions. Or.... I could dig up my notes and get back to you. What is up with your exhaust? JOEY -

Question on Stock 240Z Voltage Regulator
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
HEY DAVID!!! I can answer that one! Just unplug it. Reason being..... With my 280, with the regulator plugged in my red charge light is on all the time even though the alternator is charging. I'm asuming that your harness is similiar to my Dynatec harness. But...Then again it shouldn't matter! Yes my alternator is charging just fine with the regulator unplugged. (doesn't need an external regulator, built in the alternator). No I didn't jump any wires. JOEY P.S. Are you getting excited yet!!!! -
I need help choosing a muffler for my LS1
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
HEY DAVID!!! What I did is 2 1/2 through 2 18" glass packs to 3" to a Magnaflow muffler (in the stock location) 3" in and 3" out. My car is quiet (sleeper) and makes some noise when I get on it. Most of all it has a real nice sound!!!! JOEY -
I don't think they will work. John's kit looks nothing like that or any of the other mounting set ups I've seen (MAS280 or Cyrus's LS1). Funny. Reminds me when I first started my project.I was told by the guy that sold me my doner motor to buy his adapter plates and use sbc mounts. I'm not sure anybody has gone that route here. JOEY

RIGHT ON DALE You will love it! I broke my motor last time out at the track. will do a post on that one. Just got done with heads and cam and... about to go out for a spin HAPPY 4TH DALE!!!!! Hey DaEvil.... I live in Concord, my shop is in Orinda, I'm using John's Kit, I've been to the track twice and.... If you need help or run into a snag p.m. me! JOEY
-
HMMMM... That looks alot like Tim's old motor, Where did the purple go Just kidding! What I'm getting at, is the thrill and excitement of what you worked soooo hard to do, to pay off! I remember getting my Beast started and that first drive. Talking about working wood! I went to your web site and great job And as MAS280 would ask me..... When are you going to the track!!!! JOEY
-
For your drive shaft, myself and many members in this area have used Drive line Services of Concord 925-682-3340. For machine shop services.... What kind of work do you need done? JOEY

I like the B.S. flag I'm at 12.2 with basically a stock motor. Hopefully high 11.00's next week in a Z!!! No way, I think he is full of B.S.!!! I say look for the bottle! You will take him Do you have posi? I would totally invest in some drag radials! They stick really well!!! SMOKE HIM! JOEY

I don't know of anybody running a Datsun master with a T-56. The G.M. one was easy to adapt and peaople have used a few different ones. I'm sure they will chime in. JOEY

O.K. Found them...... Pulley GOODYEAR # 49003 Serpintine belt GATES # K060525 Remember the belt will only work with the SLP underdrive pulley! Hope this Helps JOEY p.s. On the pic, I'm not the most computer literate person and I don't know how to post pictures but..... My set up looks identical to Dale's with the exception my tensioner and idler are swapped
-
Yes, pic on the left is mine and I believe pic on the right is Dale's. That was early on in my project. It has now slightly changed. The way it was didn't have enough tension on the waterpump. What I did is kind of the oposite of Dale's. I added a SLP underdrive crank pulley, My tensioner is in the stock location and I added a pulley from Goodyear (where dale has his tensioner). I can provide Goodyear part numbers for those interested (don't have them handy right now) JOEY (i just learned how to use smilies)

RIGHT ON DALE Question??? Did you lenghthen your harness? MAS280'S mounting is like flat or parallel with the dash. Mine right now is under my carpet and floor mat. You gotta be getting close. Can you feel the power!!!! JOEY

ls1 fuel line feed & return sizes
LS1 Z replied to 1 tuff z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Hello all I'm using 5/16 inlet and outlet. Edelbrock f.p. regulator pumped up to 60p.s.i. John's cars pump. Looks like Walbro 255 pump??? Stock 280z tank NO-PROBLEMS!!!!!! Well uhh except when I first got the car done. My line from the regulator to the rail collapsed on the inside. I had 60 p.s.i. at idle and it dropped to like 35 on a hard rev. All good now! JOEY -
No Spark - Need a fresh brain!!!!
LS1 Z replied to Poundz9oh9's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
There is a ground strap for the coil. WELLS part number GS1. One end atatches to one of the coil hold down bolts and wraps around, I believe to the center terminal.(male) Hope this helps. Don't see alot of HEI'S anymore but..... from what I can remember a missing ground strap can either take out the coil or module. Hope this helps JOEY -
I would call BAR. The guy didn't know what he was doing. Is your check engine light on all the time? Does it come on now with key on engine off? Do you know some one with a scanner to check for codes? Might wanna check your fuses, I believe their are 2. ecm A and B. or...... If wanna drop the car off at my shop, I'm sure I can help you!(been doing this for a long time) I'm only 45 minutes from San Jose! JOEY
-
Me and others got ours from Scroggin and Dickey. http://www.SDPC2000.COM. Very hard to beat there prices. or you can call them at 1-800-456-0211. They also have the Z06 clutch set up at a great price! JOEY
-
15033924 is the master I'm using. The master, new comes with the line to atatch to the slave(even pre-bleed). You have to turn your round hole square and it locks in with a 1/4 turn. Piece of cake. TRACK TIMES..... Hopefully rain and work permitting I will be out at Infinion wednesday night going for 12.00 or maybe high 11's with the motor before cam and heads! Stay tuned!!!! JOEY

I've been a smog tech here in Cali for 20 years. Sounds like the smog "tec" didn't know what he was doing. Amazes me how some of these clowns get there smog licence. On your 88 fiero G.T. There is nothing to do under the dash. Only thing to do in the car is make sure the check engine light comes on (key on engine off) and goes off when the engine starts. From my info MITCHELL and ALLDATA the timing is non adjustable (coil packs). Which means don't have to check. I'm wondering if he atatched something or jumpered connections at your ALDL connector. None of which should have been done!!! How did the car run when you left? Sounds like he screwed up your car!!! Before you let the car go for a low 1200.00, I would call BAR and explain you situation. Chances are you are you are not the first one to complain about that business. The number in my area (richmond) is 510-243-9410. Ask for one of the reps (drawing a blank on names) that deals with the smog program and they will help!! KEEP US POSTED JOEY

Hey Joey it was nice to meet you and your father! Looked for other Z's and the only one I saw was an original 240 owned by the original owner. Also looked for other LS1 transplants or HYBRIDS of any kind. Did not see a single one, and there must have been around 2 thousand cars or so.Over the years I've built and showed some very nice Camaros (3). I've never had the attention and crowd the Z got. There was people around the car all day long and everybody loved it!!! The most commen comment I got was "Looks like it was made to be in there." and great job. All that work is well worth the pay off!! And yes she goes good too!!!! JOEY
