  1. Just a little added info on sound dampening. The lower the frequency is you want to reduce, the heavier/thicker (more dense) the material must be. Higher frequencies can be reduced using a lighter (less dense)materials. This information comes from years of practical experience, building top-end recording studios for a well respected company in the music bizz.
  2. Regarding the coilovers. I believe the differnce in the two set-ups is, the GC units use a pinch type coil adjuster ring (simpleset to adjust..allen wrench..no busted knuckles) and the threaded sleeve is aluminum. The other units, i believe use the more common (two locking rings) coil adjusters and a steel threaded sleeve. Usually, if it's a steel threaded sleeve, it get welded to the strut tube as the GC unit requires welding on a perch (supplied) for the aluminum sleeve to sit on. Hope this helps you out some. Does one perform better than the other.....I would think not.
  3. Issac, a question for you! Does Volk or Gram Light do custom offset and wheek lug drilling. My wheel requirement are: 17"x 8" 35mm O.S. (front) and 17"x 9" 35mm O.S. (rear), the lug pattern is the stock 240Z 4 lug. If will do the custom set-up for me I would highly interested in a set of wheels. Please get me excited about this!
  4. rustrocket, Pretty nice looking wheels!!! Centerline has good products that are pretty strong (make alot of wheels for off-road use). I say, if you get wood with these wheels......put then on your Z. For a five spoke wheel they do look good. I've always liked the 3 pc wheel look myself. Go for it!
  5. Dale, I can relate to your "one finger clearance to the headliner" issue. I used to have similar style seats in my Z, but never felt comfortable sitting so high in the car.....people probably thought I was at least 6' 6" tall or better. What I finally did was to go with a Sparco Sprint seat. The difference in the seats is, the Sprint seat suspension is like the original Z seats where you are suspended from flexible strapping that allows your butt to drop down into the seat as opposed to the sitting in a shell with a cushion...if that desribes your seat construction. Also, if you can live without fore and aft seat adjustment, remove the adjusters. It should give you another 3/4" head clearance. Just some food for thought!
  6. That's a good one! All I see when I look out my back window is disappearing headlights! Just funnin with you there buddy. Just a thought, if your defroster traces are 50% gone, you might consider razor blading them off, cleaning the window extremely well, and see if you have a clearer view. By the way, do you still have 20/20 vision?
  7. rreford, If you can get the seat hardware and shells for a steal, consider sending the shells back to RECARO for a redo. Cheaper than new ones, for sure. And then you would basically have a set of new Recaro's!!! Just an idea!
  8. Just a little technical nomenclature explaination for assistance in future disscusions. BACKFIRE = out the induction side, AFTERFIRE = out the exhaust. 8)
  9. It's pretty simple......when you get to the level that you're constantly on the podium (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) or at least in the top 10 points standings and basically have something to offer a sponsor (appearances on the podium...advertising), it's likely then that you can pusue aquiring sponsorship. I mean, who's going to sponsor a backmarker in the amateture ranks. It all about product exposure.....no podiums = no sponsorship. Or maybe you have a long lost millionaire uncle who just happens to like you. That's my 2 cents worth!
  10. drftn280zx2+2, My opinon on your skills is not important! What is important is that with your imagination (from what I observe in your sketches) you would surely create better new BMW styles than currently being produced. I think BMW makes an outstanding car, just so long as you don't have to look at their new stuff. What is happening with these New School designers anyway, is their taste only in their mouth???
  11. I guess we, in the USA, should be thankful that we have a Constitution and President (vote for BUSH in november!) that understands a persons need to protect ones self. Can you imagine the next step....Legisation being drawn up to control (right!?) ASSAULT ROCKS !!! These things are dangerous you know! There have been cases where rocks have just accidentally jumped up and killed someone. "Sir, you are under arrest for possion of assault rocks in your garden.....please come with me". As you all probably already know, the United Nations is in the process of drawing up a "World Treaty Agreement" that in part intends to eliminate private ownership of firearms to countries that sign the damn thing. I know one country that won't sign up..........the good old USA. We would have a different outcome however, if the likes of John Kerry were elected! So, remember to vote "FREEDOM FIRST" (George Bush) in november. Thank you very much.
  12. Metric cruisers are fine, I suppose! I guess I'm a little bit of an Old School kind of guy. For this style of bike, I would just break down and buy the original, a Harley Davidson. You'd sleep better at night too, not worrying about the comments you will get about riding a METRIC CRUISER. That's just one man's opion however. What do I know? I'm sure it's a really nice bike though!
  13. I seriously think you should apply for the head designer guy's spot at BMW.
  14. Did ya notice the nice high tech fasteners they used to attach the whatchamacallit capacitor. Nice work. Yasin, I think you should get one, if for no other reason than a coversation piece....keep'em quessing that it might be some secret weapon or something. Anyway, have a nice weekend...I'm out of here..............
  15. If people would just take the time to research and learn the facts about gun control, they might consider changing their thoughts about them. There are (IMO) two types of gun control....#1- The government putting restrictions on then. It's a know fact that cities and or countries that have the most restrictions on guns have higher crime rates.....go figure. On the other side of the fence (little or no restrictions) foster less crime.....why? because criminal are not totally stupid. If you were a criminal, wouldn't you think twice about breaking into someones house if you suspected the owner was armed? Now if the criminal knows the are no guns, theres no problem and he is likely to meet zero oppostion. Gun controls only hurt the law abiding citizens not the criminals. Criminals do not abide by the law...that's why they call them criminals!!! #2- (This is the best) Gun control is when you can stack one round after another on top of eachother, when in the act of shooting! My kind of gun control. Owning guns is about being able to protect one's self. Look back in history, specifically why this country was started, and learn from are forefathers.
  16. If you are interested in some quick answers about avaiable insert lengths and how much to section the struts, give Ground Control a call. These guys seem to be pretty sharp on the subject.
  17. Toysport, you mentioned that you intend to section your struts! If you are, infact, a person with little or no welding experience......DO NOT WELD THE STRUTS YOURSELF!!!!!! The stuts are a critical structural component of the car. If you have a failure you will be wishing you had taken the struts to a professional welder, provide you are still alive! I have alot of welding experience and I choose to have my struts welded by a certfied pipe fitter. SAFETY IS ALWAYS NUMBER ONE! Also, it is important to inform the welder that a shock goes inside the strut and to be cautious not to have excessive weld penetration. If this happens you will be trying to figure out how to grind away the protruding welds from inside the strut tubes, so you can insert the shocks. Just some food for thought!
  18. Did I read that right........You got pulled over for doing a 69 on a 50 year old!!? Hell, you should have invited the officer to join in! Oh, wait a minute......I just found my glasses! :malebitchslap:
  19. I have a modification that won't cost you a dime!!! It's a garage modification! Pack up all those un-used new parts and ship them to me....I'll pay the shipping of course! Hey, your wife will love you more for doing so!
  20. Wow! That was a great techincal presentation. This should be of great value to the beginner or as far as that goes, to most everyone involved building an engine that has always wondered about the how and why of performance engine building. Nice work and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all.
  21. J. Soileau, It appears that the HID twist-in assembly is larger in diameter than a standard issue H4 headlight twist-in....and likely will not fit, hence the new lense assembly shown in the pic. It does also mention that it will fit into a standard headlight housing assembly, due to the additional length of the unit. Regarding the cost of these HID systems....they're all very expensive compared to standard systems. What's that old saying..."If you want to play, you got to pay"!
  22. Interesting comment from Scottie regarding rear end squat on a Z! I remembers many years ago when the Corvette started using IRS. The guys ate the drag strips, that raced these vettes, ran extra wide slicks because.......when the rear squatted, the tires were no longer square to the track (the more the car squats, the more negative camber you have), hence less rubber on the ground. So to somewhat compensate, they ran wider slicks.....improving traction to some degree. My point is, it's not so much a matter of a car squatting but the relationship of a tire's contact patch with the pavement under launch. As most know, this is not an issue with a solid rear axle car.....like most drag cars use. So Scottie, you most likely could reduce your ET without an IRS setup. I guess the only exception to the rule, regarding IRS, is if the design of the IRS used equal length upper and lower transverse links. Just some food for thought!!!
  23. butlersZ, Dan is correct about the relays. Relays are nothing more than a switch! A small amount of current is required to activate the contacts (an electromagnetic coil physically closes contacts to complete a circuit) and the closed contacts carry the high current to what ever device you are operating. Basically, relays keep high current out of the drivers compartment (safety) and likewise reduces the amount of wire (smaller gauge wire) needed for a system. Hope this helps further explain relays!
  24. Pretty funny!!! What will they come up with next? The cab area looks a bit like the Hummer. Just maybe, this pickup truck is for guys with little tiny wennies!
  25. JOHN COFFEY FOR PRESIDENT....he drives a Z car! What else needs to be said............... P.S. John, I definitely concur with your thoughts!!!
