  1. FB is a good drift car too. I'm still waiting for more american cars to get into drifting. No offence to the japanese, but they think american cars only go straight. We need to show them there are american cars with potential to do everything from drag to autox to drift. (one of the top cars on the D1 circut is a 05 stang )
  2. DON'T SHIP TO CA! That's my advice. Do you know anyone you trust in oregon? If you get it registered in any other state, then you don't have to perform the CA mods. It's a nice loop hole. I know people that have performed it. It's legal, it's their fault the laws were written poorly.
  3. I'll break this down for you. Here are some basic principals of drift (all of wich can be combined with others for seemless drifting) Acceleratided drifting: At exit a healthy puch can cause this. Up shifting on entry can cause it too (very popular) Deccerated drifting: Down shifting so the pull of the engine actually causes the tired to slide in the oposite direction in relation to the road. You can also kinda classify e-brake work in this class Inertia drifting: Turning to the outside before hamering the inside clipping point will cause ANY car to get sideways. Dynamic drifting: Either usinging light brakes or lifting off the trottle when coming in hot in a turn can get you sideways. A FWD car can't perform many of these at all, making it extremelly hard to drift in competition. If you end up loosing too much speed midturn you can't correct with throttle to keep the back end out next to you. You just loose your drift. A FWD car can drift turns as long as there is enough time to gather the speed required. A FWD can ONLY perform high speed drifting. A RWD car can get sideways at any speed with enough power. Does any of this make sense?
  4. One movie changed my opinion forever on naming cars. Gone In 60 Seconds. Eleanor. That name just fits that car and give it so much personality. I think every car has a personality waiting to be found. A name just helps people see it.
  5. You know, the main reason cops want people to race at tracks isn't because tracks are safe, but rather there will be help at tracks when something DOES happen. On the street a small wreak can mean death because you didn't reach medical help in time. Things like this show that much can still happen at a track. It's a good thing they keep regulations as tight as they do. That said, I can't imagine anything like that happening at infineon. Just dirt and cement barriers.
  6. Yea, but everyone knows the only real pony cars on the road are the SVT badged ones 8) I'd like to see a small V8 in Z as an option. I think they'd still need a V6 option to keep the price down. Maybe they should just make a good turbo system option.

well the 1UZ-FE in this lexus is rated at 265HP, so why would I want to actually pay for a motor with less power?

I guess it's a good thing I'm not a luxury car fan then 8) mrcookson, I think I understand. Thanks.

well, it's not brand new. It's a 97' or there about. Sure you can get a motor for that price. But what about wiring harness, ecu, all sensors, ect, ect, ect. There are usually lots of "little things" you end up needing that might not be there if you get the motor second hand. Also, i should have mentioned... If I put it in my ZX I have to leave it mostly stock to pass emissions. If I put it in a S30 I can go all out.
  10. That's getting saved on my PC forever. I've already got a copy on my second HD. Very cool. Good editing too.
  11. Elisabeth My gold ZX in my sig was cindy RIP. They all gotta be girls names, just like my guitars. (my agile was lisa RIP, my samick is jenny, ibanez is gabriella)
  12. naw, he's too good for that j/k Very impressive.

As the engine code notes, it's toyota. It's a V8 DOHC 32 valve motor 4 liter. All aluminium, single came gear with narrow valve angle and no rockers. All done to minimize head size & weight. The exhast gear is driven by a secondary gear mid-cam. Great chamber design, ports work well at low PRM but need to be opened up for high RPM use. 6 bolt motor (someone explain what that means, i don't understand that) wich is supposed to make it strong. All forged internals. There are a couple of blower options availible and twin turbo setups have been done. Motor only weights in just under 400 pounds. It's LIGHT. It's the motor in my grandfather's new lexus. He wants a truck in the future and said he'd give me the car (free) when he replaces it. So in a couple of years (maybe less, he's in his mid 70's... still in great shape though) I might have myself a free donor car for an easy 400hp light V8. I was doing some research and it seems to be a great motor. Talk about gold mine in my lap eh? Engine might need a rebuild & blueprint by the time it makes it's way into a Z, it's high mileage at 190k. So.... Thoughts? comments? Should I think about buying a S30 shell or just put it in my low milage S130 ZX and totally ruin it's value? EDIT: Good resource I found. Good links too. http://www.1uzfe.com/
  15. You people are SO obesessed with totally killing a car by puting V8's in them... ..now I know what I hang out here 8)
  16. Yea, I guess i'd only go over 400hp on stock internals if it was a GT40 to begin with. The stock heads have poor exhast flow wich can force the internals to take more stress for the same power as an easy breathing motor. Even then if you want to be safe you would want to keep it in the low 400 range. It's amazing how well the GT40 motors were built though. There are plenty of 93 cobra owners who run low 400hp on supercharged setups and they're simply amazing cars with that much power. Brismo, just take it easy on her at first ok?
  17. It can't be calculated on a dyno, so it's even worse than drivetrain loss becuase you can't measure if you made it better or worse. I'd expect johnc to have some ingenious words of wisdom we'll all remember...
  18. sweet, only took 4 decades for it to catch.....
  19. LOL, you still rock in my book man And yes muspuppis, the new t-bird sucked, and for the price i wouldn't touch it with a 20 foot pole.
  20. AHHH, it just dawned on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first F&F movie begining. Brian shifts with his right hand AND steers with his right hand. Modern drivers aren't that 'awsome' thus don't buy sticks. This explains EVERYTHING!!!
  21. I havn't gotten my copy yet ;( All in due time.
  22. Saw a nice V6 S30 at the brisbane show today, really confirms my ideas about a 6 banger. With as small as pushrod V6 motors are i'm surprised more people havn't done them. The entire engine seemed to sit behind the wheels, as well it should, with the motor only being 3 cylinders long.
  23. just becuase they're not fun doesn't mean they're not fast I'm a stick kinda guy though. Even in traffic a good hydrolic clutch is as easy as any automatic for me. Look on the bright side. Most junkyard motors will never have seen anything close to redline and will have always shifted low around town I think will make the realiability of junkyard motors a lot better.
  24. Yea, i've seen videos of that guy before. That freeway clip looked lucky to me. Even the best drivers on the D1 circut don't get that close to walls when they meen to. And I don't know if I'd call all that drifting. Alot of it looked like controled sliding. I'd like to see him on a track and not just straight aways.
