  3. I remember a while back Hot Rod magazine or was it Car Craft? Anyway, they did a mild build on a 4.3 and got 300 to 325 horsies out of it, something like that anyway. Even 300 h.p. is like double the h.p. of a stock Z depending on year, etc. Then add turbo, and hold on! I am a SBC fan, but I would love to see a turbo 4.3, I'd say go for it. Good Luck on whatever you decide.
  4. There is a member on here, stampie is his sig. in progress 500 caddy swap. http://www.stampie.com
  5. To answer your question Alex, I don't think that's a squid. Its a clam. Would that be a bearded clam or a bald one? hahahaha
  6. But sure looks like one heck of a ride, albeit a dangerous one!
  7. just crate it up and send it to me...........lol Is the crack structural? or maybe it is in a spot that could be welded? Just an idea.
  8. I, as the rest of us hope the surgery goes well and a most speedy recovery. I found your personal website on the net a good while ago and then the link to come here, I thank you for that. Anyway, listen to the docs/ hot nurses, get healed up so you can get that bad a$$ Z back on the road. Take care man, let us all now how you feel in a couple of days.
  9. Just ask my cousin why his best friend no longer has a Dad..........
  10. Your Z sounds great. What type of mufflers are you running? Please get some vids of the Z with you "getting on it".
  11. only if you look at it from the bottom Good one dr_hunt...............
  12. Pete, first I hope your back is getting better. Why don't you use an old points dizzy with the Petronix electronic conversion for now until you get what you want. Those old cross ram intakes are so cool looking, I would love to have one. I'm not bashing your T.B.I. idea, but what about having the intake drilled for individual injectors, and maybe using a couple of Holley 600 or 650 cfm carbs with those block-off plates, or just some good gutted throttle bodies. I think the "port" injection would work great with that intake manifold. Ayway, just food for thought. Good Luck!
  13. WOW! The project looks awesome. If it were me, I would paint the cab flat black and add some basic flames to it. Good luck on gettin er done!
  14. make great boat anchors.........just kidding
  15. I personally have nothing against a "purist". I mean being "pure" is their thing, and modding is our thing. If I am ever lucky enough to get a fairly nice original Z, I would love to post pics of the dissection/engine swap/driveline mods on a purist site and watch them squeel........................ Those purists are just too "prude" in a sense. Who cares what engine a Z or any other car has, as long as you enjoy the particular car that you are into! I can just hear the purists whine when Jesse James or Boyd Coddington cuts up one of the originals................HA HA HA!!!!!!
  16. geez, talk about leg warmers, big hair, and those rockwell albums.........ha ha!
  17. My opinion would be to remove said sheet metal cover and promptly put in file 513. I think a regular air dam would look better. Good luck on getting the Z out of jail. I also agree that at this rate you better do something with the motor for the valvesprings sake.
  18. The dana is strong, but a bit heavier than the nine-inch if I remember right. My buddy says the dana 60 has a 10.25 inch ring gear, but who knows as he isn't the brightest crayon in the box sometimes.
  19. There was a guy who used to post on here, his sig was 4.3L Z or something like that.
  20. Dude, I really like the wheels on the car. Maybe consider polishing them. I wonder if they would fit on an early Z. Yeah I know lug pattern is different, but easily solved.
  21. I'm sure I speak for others when I ask any pics/videos? I am wanting a nice 3/4 view, wheels up launch pic for the ole' wallpaper on the computer. Anyway, congrats on the awesome runs!
  22. A buddy of mine a couple of years back was in thie same situation, limited money, space, etc. Anyway, he picked up some scrap/warped/discounted 2X6 lumber at the local Lowes and built an engine stand/holder similar to the shipping platform of a crate enigne. He made the vertical risers the width of the oil pan rails. He then used 2 old seatbelts from an old car, one end attached to one riser, then the other end to the opposing riser. Drape said belts over the engine, buckle up, tighten the slack and your enigne is now nice and cozy and secure, works great for hauling too. I now have the "stand" and have used it alot. Anyway, good luck.
