  1. Its been 30 years since I rode a street bike. I'm just putting around right now pissing off the old ladys in their Buicks.
  2. Why don't you just put them on the car and run it to see if its an issue. My biggest concern would be a good gasket seal at the base of the 1 3/4" SU.
  3. Search the Vendor forum. Someone is already making and selling adapter tubes.
  4. It kinda looks like something got into the combustion chambers, but there are no marks on the valves. Would detonation chip little chunks off the quench areas and then toss them around in the engine?
  5. 1. Check to make sure you installed the LCA bushings correctly. The longer part of the bushing goes behind the LCA. 2. Make sure the TC rods are installed correctly and torqued as specified in the FSM. 3. Set the front toe.

    3" exhaust?

    His isn't a 3" exhaust. Its a 2.3" exhaust with a few 3" straight sections.
  7. Both Kirk Racing and Autopower sell SCCA Solo1 and 2 legal four point roll bars. A local welder should be able to add the two additional mounting points.
  8. Probably not too bad of an idea in FP. 2.4L x .75 is 1,800 lbs but the class minimum is 1,900 lbs so that's your number. In autocross, total suspension travel in Prepared cars is generally no more then about 2" total so you can set the rear suspension where it needs to be to work the best. You can make a 280ZX that can win in FP. Unfortunately the only proven driver that can win the class (JT) is not looking for a ride.
  9. Per an e-mail conversation I had with Brian hammer of SCCA in January, the 240/260/280Z and the 280ZX/280ZXT are correctly listed all on one line. That means you can build a BSP legal 240Z with a 280ZXT engine.
  10. The 240Z typically sold for $3,500 plus dealer markup. The 911 sold for about $7,500 and the 911S sold for about $8,500.
  11. FYI... the ultimate track record is 1:06.xxx set by Michael Andretti back on March 1987. The SCCA ITS 240Z lap record is a 1:32.xxx set by Bryan Lampe in Rich Maloney's old 240Z. Byran beat all the modified 2.8L, cammed, weber carb'd, 12 to 1 CR, 200 lb. lighter weight, 4 wheel disc, CP3 cars with his stock engine internals, drum braked, SU equipped ITS 240Z.
  12. Are you comparing current VARA/SVRA/HSR West CP level builds and costs or vintage correct builds and costs from back in the day? If its current level builds then the costs are almost comparable. A typical front running VARA CP3 240Z is a $20K to $40K car - I know, I've done work on Steve Link, Larry Hassler, Chris Cox, and John Wilkin's cars (all front runners in CP3). The typical 911 running in the same class has $30K to $60K invested. The cost difference is normally about 30% between a front running 240Z and 911 in a vintage race build, which isn't that great. The 240Zs are also given a displacement break of .4L (2.4L L6 vs. 2L flat 6 in CP3) and I think the Datsuns weight 100 lbs less. There is no $2,500 240Z running in vintage racing here on the west coast.
  13. Glad this thread came back up: Home Depot (RIDGID) 18V drill: Crap - I can burn one up in two days and they won't honor the warranty because I abuse them. A 1 3/4" hole saw cutting roll bar tubing is abuse? Well, it probably is. Milwookie 18V drill; Great. It can handle the 1 3/4" hole saw and roll bar tubing for at least 6 months now. Stanley 5 lb. Sledge Hammer: Crap. Handle snapped off after two years. Unknown 5 lb. Sledge hammer (found next to the railroad tracks): Great. Still working fine after 8 years. Drill Doctor: Useless POS that just makes metal dust out of expensive drill bits. Cheap Generic Jobber Drill Bit Set: Great. When the bits dull, throw them away. Oatey Dark Thread Cutting Oil: Great. Keeps cheap generic jobber drill bits from getting dull.
  14. Then you need to do some searching here. A set back L6 will have its weight distribution within 1% (or less) of an SR20DET swap.
  15. There's a metal spinning shop next door to mine. If you e-mail me a detailed drawing I can ask Gerrardo how much to make it.
  16. BTW... you folks are forgetting about the dollar/yen exchange rate. The dollar has been devalued significantly.
  17. I have not seen it tested but I've heard others say its one of the better L6 headers.
  18. Mainly because the spam bots are getting smarter but we also had a glitch in the anti-spam software as part of the forum. Its fixed. We've also noticed a few sleeper spammers who register and do nothing for a few months. That last one, promising to "Safe Money on Licensed Software", had registered here back in July 2009.
