  1. VW TDI diesel 4 cylinder. You can get 50 mpg+ out of an engine that's puts out 300+ ft. lbs. of torque. http://www.tdiclub.com/
  2. The quote above and what was being repsonded to are adding politics/morals into this thread and that's something we don't allow on this site. This is a good thread and has a lot of valuable tech in it. There's no need to add moral judgements about people's "world views" or pontificate on the fate of mankind. Keep it focused on the tech.
  3. You will rub the frame and/or the TC rod at full lock. If that worries you, put rack stops on the steering rack. EDIT: I've used two piece shaft collars as rack stops. Go to McMaster-Carr and search on "Shaft Collar". You'll need the OD of the rack.
  4. You want this thread closed and tossed into the Tool Shed?
  5. Sorry, the spin and count method isn't accurate either. Per Einstien's theory of Special Relativity you get length contraction when any mass is in motion. You need to adjust with your measuring tools because length contraction affects the starting point and the ending point of the spinning masses. Personally I would rely on the stamped numbers on the ring gear just to avoid relativity issues.
  6. Why not just cross flow the cooling on the head? Three inlets on the passenger side, each between two cylinders, and three outlets on the drivers' side between the same two cylinders. Run a dry deck, electric pump, and split the pump output between the head and the block. Or, maybe just increase cooling system pressure like I did. 28 to 30 psi solves most nucleate boiling problems. Or better yet, go with a non-water based cooling system.
  7. I don't understand why people think that shipping is cheap. Doesn't it take fuel to move things around? Haven't fuel prices gone up? Don't people realize that the price of the part has noting to do with the cost of shipping it (except for insurance)? When I ship a hood or a hatch it goes into a 66" x 56" x 8" box that gets billed at a 165lb. shipping weight, even though the box, packaging, and hood together weigh in a 50 lbs. I charge people exactly what it costs me to ship the part and I even offer to show them the invoice. Some folks are still completely dumbfounded when I give them the shipping cost. A few go out and price the shipping themselves, only later to come back whimpering.
  8. Now you need to start searching, read the FAQs, and read the stickies. ALL of you questions have been answered many, many times. Take your time and read.
  9. Full carbon fiber hoods and hatches: http://www.betamotorsports.com
  10. Another, very subtle aspect of spring length, is that a longer spring (same pitch, more coils) has a thicker wire given the same rate as a shorter spring. Its heavier as a result of the additional length and the thicker wire.
  11. I ship parts all over the world or I can hand the parts to Tony and he can toss them in Franks's shipping container, if its OK with Frank.
  12. Early 260Zs 2.005" OD strut tubes (240Z size). 25 spline stub axles. 240Z rear lower control arms. 240Z spring isolators. Late 260Zs 2.15" OD strut tubes (280Z size). 27 spline stub axles. 280Z rear lower control arms. 280Z rear spring isolators (taller). Unfortunately there's no date cotoff for the above items. They were added as the parts became available.
  13. Funny, there's an old vintage GT2 car around here that has very similar looking rear control arms. Everything old is new again.
  14. Here's a great example about how to think about a race track, what to look for, etc.
  15. Sounds like its time to buy a 15 gallon container of VP Racing C10.
  16. Congratulations. He's got a 15 day headstart on life, stay out of his way!
  17. Here's the specs on the car (it is no more): http://www.betamotorsports.com/products/rod4sale.html I had some cooling problems until I redid the bypass circuit in the cooling system. The radiator and heat exchanger worked very well.
  18. If a car goes off track and remains off track in a safe place, SCCA will display a staionary yellow flag at the corner before the off track car for two laps only. After those two laps the driver's should be aware of the off track car. On the first out lap for the group or session each corner station displays a yellow flag as Mike mentioned above. The reason they do that is to let you know where each manned corner station is. Pay attention! If you have a mechanical problem, or worse yet, a fire, try to safely stop off track as close to a manned corner station as possible. A corner worker can only run so fast carrying a 50 lb. fire extinguisher. Also, on your cool down lap, wave to each corner worker. That's generally the only thanks they get for the work they are doing for you.
  19. Try finding a hazard light switch in a Spec Racer Ford...
  20. The real question regarding how much horsepower a part can handle is: How long does the part last at x horsepower. I'm sure a stock RB26 crank can do one dyno pull at 1,500 horsepower. Can it do two?
  21. BJ, I'll have to find another picture somewhere to guess the distance. If I recall correctly the wheel rim itself was about 4" from the upper eyebrows of the dash. ZMaster, Thats a gear indicator for the Quaife sequential 5 speed dog box I ran in the car.
  22. 2 row with 30 active tubes in each pass. 3.03" thick. 25.750" wide at the HE. 23.500" wide at the bottom of the core. 13.750" tall. 1.5" inlet and outlet. -12 inlet and outlet for the Niagra 10 plate HE. Application was for a racing 240Z running a modified Nissan straight 6.
  23. You'll have to ask the people making those statements. I've run spacers on all of my race cars in thicknesses from 1/16" to 1" without ever having a problem. Right now on my 350Z I have 1/2" spacers in front and 1/4" spacers in back. That car has seen speeds of 150mph in Turn 2 on the Cal Speedway oval. Nothing snapped, nothing flew off, the car didn't explode into a fireball and then run into a school bus full of children.
  24. No one has mentioned hub stress in this thread. Our concerns are the fasteners (wheel studs) and the adapter. And also the messed up rotors.
