  1. The motor mounts and the crossmember towers are essentially in-line. The JTR setup uses setback plates to put the motor back against the firewall. If you really want help, put some pictures up for us to see. Davy
  2. A bit pricey for what you get, but at least it is "plug and play" for the most part. Thanks for posting the pic---at least others will know what they'll be getting with the JCI kit. I agree about the tranny mount--I swear I'm looking at the JTR mount with doubler plates. Good luck on your install! Davy
  3. Bill, thanks for posting the info on the clutch assembly. I'll probably also go stock replacement as well, but fortunatly I already have some of the pieces and won't have to spend quite as much! As far as the color of the wires and your engine bay, here's my theory: use a color like red to make the whole engine bay "pop." My theory is that you need something to draw the eye in and then catch all the subtlety of the rest of the engine. In other words the relatively bright wires will subconciously 'shock' the onlooker and reel them in, whereas a completely muted look will be glanced over much more quickly and possibly dismissed by the uninformed. Generally when I see a car with 1 or 2 major colors in the paint scheme or engine bay, the best look is when a second or third color is introduced as a mere detail color, not en masse. In other words, it compliments the main color scheme despite adding yet an additional other color. Does that make sense? Edit: I guess I missed the big red honkin' HEI disty cap! OK, you already have a third color in there, which is great, but it is completely at the back of the motor. Since red is the third color (good choice) keep it the same way. I think red wires to match would look great and not add too much color. Make sure to use a loom or bracket to keep them tidy since the viewer's eye will be drawn to them first. Again, this is totally my opinion. Borrow some wires if you can and mock it up---then decide. Davy
  4. Tom, you could tell them it doesn't match the chip you selected, then watch the expressions on their faces. Or if this was your fault, shrug it off and keep it. The lighter yellow looks much more period correct for the Z can anyway. I sold the New Beetles so I know both colors you are talking about. You have a ton of money in your car already, you just have to decide if it pains you to no end to keep the color. Decide after 1 year. BTW, I like the lighter yellow. Davy
  5. 26 mpg is what I managed with my stock 510... Davy
  6. Harbor Freight has one for $40 (on sale) like the top picture. However, it certainly comes from China and I have no idea about the quality. What irritates me is tyring to get quality tools by paying the money and finding out they are made in a third world country. Not trying to be political, just pragmatic. Davy
  7. I feel your pain. Here are the places where I have found leaks in my car: 1) Along the weather strip since it is not siliconed into place 2) In the corner of the top of the door where the weatherstrip makes a 90 degree angle 3) Along the windshield gasket because the stainless/chrome trim is not in place 4) The gaskets/grommets in the firewall of all places 5) Between the fuzzy strips and the window glass (any gap can let water in) Try those on for size. BTW, the problems have not gotten better since I shaved the drip rails lol. Davy
  8. Stunning interior, Tim. Kudos for a job well done. Man, I hope my car will look that nice when it's finished! Sweeeeet! Davy
  9. That's something I have never seen before. It sure is interesting, but what do you about a horn? Is there one on the car? Your hard work is really paying off. In fact, your car looks nearly finished Davy
  10. Hmmmm, make that a: Fiat X1/9.4X4 Davy
  11. Not a Z...it's a Fiat X1/9. Davy
  12. Greta photos of the progress coming along nicely. BTW, the wife thinks the wine & Fresca will taste like a Sangria of sorts. I still need to gsather the cajones and buy some Fresca to mix with. Wine I have, Fresca no. Please post your thoughts and experience with the HTOB and how well you think it works. I have the same bellhousing (I also have the Corvette bellhousing) and I'm not sure what I want: hydraulic or mechanical. I'm not sure which is "best" or if it really matters. Ah, trying to decide. Also, what brand is the clutch you are using? Specs? Cost? I have the Camaro 5 speed, which is what you have. BTW, good color scheme for the engine & bay... Davy
  13. Wow, I wonder if SuperDan has suspended my email or something, lol. Please see my PM to you with alternate email. If that does not work, I'm SOL. Thanks for trying yet again... Davy
  14. Just send it via davyZ@hybridz.org which should work. Thanks! Also, Dr Hunt, thanks for the parts!!! This weekend is fine by me--I'm in no hurry right now. Good to have friends on the board Davy
  15. Looks like a bargain! I like it and want it, but can't afford it... Cool! Davy
  16. Wagz, Your first two reasons for moving are nearly compelling enough, let alone with all the other ones. You could make out really well when you sell--you'll be able to afford a bigger better house OR have a similar house and some $$$$$ left over--either way it is not a bad deal. You should look into making your own 1/8 or 1/4 track near the roundy round, although I'm not sure what the State would say. Still, it could be worth the shot. Anyway, good luck with your move and getting the right job!!! Davy
  17. Most likely, although there are others... Davy
  18. Silviaguy240, You're not in my neck of the woods, but I'll give it a shot. Here's what I think: The car is clean and mostly stock, and I actually like the car, but... 1) It is a 2+2, which is a turn off to most Z owners/buyers. The car was meant to be a 2 seater and that's what most people want. Many don't like the looks of a 2+2, but this one appears to be be clean and without the dreaded terminal cancer. I like this particular car, though, even if I preferential toward the 2 seater. 2) The model year is 1978, which means it still needs to be smogged (in CA) and that makes engine swapping and modifying a bit more difficult. Everything must be smog legal and we would have to pray that it passes smog both a) initially and after modifications are done. However, since you are not in CA, probably not subject to the same smog laws, the car is probably considered rare in your state, and it has very little rust + being in great shape, I'd think $3000 - $4000 is what someone might pay for the car. However, I'm shooting off my mouth since I'm out here. You would get $2000 in CA for the car. That's it. I hope I'm wrong. Davy
  19. That's just unbelievable fall-into-the-paint-because-it's-so-deep blue that I have ever seen! Even from my computer screen, it looks increadible!!!!! Good choice Davy
  20. Nice car, John What modifications do you have in order for the engine? Are you the kind of guy that waits for the warranty to expire before doing mods? Ha, I didn't think so!! Davy
