  1. Looks great! The time & work & $$$$ you put into the car has rewarded you with a win--congratulations! Davy
  2. Looks great! I think the III is an improvement over the older styles. Nice work! Davy
  3. You'll also notice that deja is running a very good electric fan, not a pusher AND a shroud (important!) that covers nearly the entire area of the radiator. Those two things are key. Pusher fans are not nearly as desirable. Your thermostat seems to be the right temperature, but you could also go lower as well to open up sooner. Do the fans run constantly? If they do and you are still overheating, they might not be up to the job. Also, you live in Redding! With the recent heat wave, you must be seeing temps around 110 degrees outside. Any weakness in your cooling system will rear its ugly head. Is your radiator clean inside (no sludge or other crap that another owner could have put in there)? Did you purge the system of all the air???? Air pockets can cause problems. Typically, you purge the highest point in the system...air goes up... Burp that baby. Davy
  4. Because when they're representing a business or a company and tell a potential customer of said product to go f-themselves, they'll post it on a site like this one for thousands of other potential customers to see who they shouldn't do business with... ....that's why. Davy

    76 280z 2+2

Wow, you can't beat it for free. Looks like you already know what will and won't fit. I think you'll have a good time lowering the car and making a ZG styled 2+2, there aren't many out there! Good luck. Davy
  6. Miles, for right now you are "smog check exempt." So don't sweat the V8 year at all for the time being (before they change the law again). I think you are relatively safe. Davy
  7. Personally I think the LT1 is the best motor to 'start out' with. It will fit as per JTR, and is the best in terms of performance bang for the buck. Probably won't leak and be reliable as all get out. I think it is the 'perfect' motor if you are talking strsght stock without the prices of the LSx motors. You mentioned carbs. If you want a carbed motor, then really anything old is game. More cubic inches are always preferable IMO and there have been long and drawn out threads about this topic. I personally would never go anything less than 350 cubic inches anyway, but that's all my opinion. Davy
  8. If you called in sick and your phone bill verifies it, you have a case against them for wrongful termination IMO. If you just didn't show up, I don't think your chances are very good. Your previous attendance record is also key here. Davy
  9. I have some 280Z stub axles that can swap with you. See my PM. Davy

    510 tranny

Jon, thanks for catching me on the tranny length and the driveshaft mod required. I have vague pictures in my head from "How to Modify and Race your Datsun," about the Z install into the 510, but not the other way around. Anyway... Yep, I forgot about the length of the tranny--it is shorter, but it can still be made to work. Personally, I would do what the guys suggested above, and that's buying a known Z tranny. I find them often for sale on Craigslist in my area. If you do decide to install it, be prepared to have the shifter in a slightly awkward postion (farther forward). If the tranny if free though and you have your heart set on it, install it to see where the shifter comes in the cockpit. However, you will spend money on a new or modifed driveshaft anyway, so why not go for a known Z tranny anyway? It'll save a lot of time IMO. You are perhaps practicing false economy here. Davy
  11. It must be hot on top of those flat roofed buildings, no breeze, in the Central Valley where its 100 degrees in the shade. I have no envy for your job, Dan. It must be like 130 degrees on the roof, eh? Davy
  12. Pete's car is running something close: http://alteredz.com/wheelstires.htm Davy
  13. Good point. This has saved me too. I buy Pfister faucets and have to take them back to Home Depot every three to five years due to damage from hard/soft water. They come with a lifetime warranty against virtually everything so I might as well have them make good on the promise Nice to be able to have new stuff every few years and not pay for it again! Davy
  14. Nice job That actually looks clear enough to work in it. Good work organizing that garage, but sorry to hear that granny already has rental space filled up *ugh*. When my granny passed away, she didn't leave much of anything--she died poor and simple, but happy and fulfilled. I'll miss her. Davy
  15. Yes, but I recall there being any threads talking about the E3 plug. The ones in the past have been about other brands, including the Splitfire brands but E3?? I'm not so sure there will be comprehensive info on that. Davy
  16. P-Ayr products makes plastic engines for mock-up assembly. Here is a site that sells them, although I'm sure Summit Racing and Jegs do too: http://www.pitstopusa.com/P-AYR_PRODUCTS.aspx Davy
  17. My 240Z has them and I like them. The only reason I'm going for coil-overs is height adjustability. Davy
  18. I have seen some of the cars (concours d'elegance-type) come out of the shop he used to work with. Oh yeah, a $200,000 Chevelle. Looked great to me, but Ernie knew every flaw (not his paint job). No wonder no one wants him to be a judge at a car show j/k Davy
  19. The closest thing I drink to Scotch is cognac. I can't afford some serious 100 year old Scotch wiskey, so I'll stick to my old standby. My friend whipped some 100 year old Scotch out one evening and I was blown away by how utterly smooth it was. I asked him< "How much does it cost?" and he coughed some up out of his nose. After coughing, he told me what he paid. Then I started coughing. Salud. Davy
  20. Bingo!. Car Craft just had an article last month that included lightly sanding or scuffing aluminum shiny parts to give them a unique, muted 'shine' that keeps people looking at it! They said a Scotchbrite pad was the thing to use. I don't remember the details offhand, but if you intend to go that way and want more info, I'll go look it up; just PM me. Davy
  21. Aux, those look even better in the gunmetal over the black ones I saw at your place! Sweet! Davy
  22. Are you starving or actually making a living crewing? It would be the dream of a lifetime for someone who loves motorsports, is not married, and wants to learn a lot about everything racing. Looks like too much fun. Please stop before we ban you out of envy. Davy
