  1. I don't think it matters even if he does want to. I would worry about it after, that is just me. Cool, what brake setup are you going for? I am just going with 4X4 vented setup, in retrospec maybe the wilwoods would of been a better idea, but that is just because you get alot more bang for the buck. Except i am already way overbudget so the extra $800 of cost (taking into acount front and rear wilwood vs front and rear toyota/240sx) couldn't be justified.
  2. 72 You can do that here also. It is illegal in both places though... About smog, whats nice is since it is a 302 there is so much out there that all i would need is a JY cat and the EFI and i should be at what is considered "stock". Although i think i read somewhere that i wouldn't even need cats, because the refs realize that they would cause heat issues on the cars floor.
  3. OMG HAHAHA that was my first thought, check it out there is a sweet *** enzo motor and brakes + the transmission just lying on the ground! And from the looks of it the engine ran fine..... Poor guy.
  4. Wish my dad would of taken me to the track. I am only 17, and havent gotten in an accident, except when that girl hit me in the parking lot (100% her fault and she paid for it). The problem for me is that my Z doesn't run and I am not sure I wan't to take a ford explorer on the track. Would I be allowed to take an explorer on the track to find its limits?
  5. IMHO there is more weight savings potential by simply switching your glass to lexan....
  6. OMG a v8 that will totally RUIN THE HANDELING of a 240z! Hahhaha just kidding guys. Yah, two thumbs up. Those are YZ flares right?
  7. Hehe nah i will be happy with that for a couple years I would think. Well maybe not fully happy, but i would want to master the car at that level before i swap in a 370hp centralcoast monster. Hell, i am still not ready to up the explorer's horsepower after 2 years and it is only 160, thats because i realize it needs better tires, brakes, suspension, and LSD before i procede. We shall see...
  8. Haha im 17 too. Your going to kill yourself at 400hp i would think Any way sounds good, I would still keep it N/A though. I hope you plan on upgrading the brakes and installing LSD with significantly bigger tires before you soup the engine up. I am sticking to the 225 horse stock 5.0 HO for now, even though i haven't driven it yet, i know it is more then enough power. I need to learn the car ALOT before I upgrade its engine. Not trying to be a dad or anything at all, just make sure you know what your doing
  9. in/lbs are also used for fasteners when it is something that requires a more dainty (sp?) touch edit: lbs/in up there
  10. I think that the stroke would get +7mm of travel according to your proposed 140mm rods... This would up the displacement, and lower compression unless heads were changed. That is assuming you want to keep the same crank. But to destroke i am under the impression that you would want to get a crank with less travel/radius and then match it to longer rods to keep the compression sane but also lower stroke.
  11. I think twin turbos would be worse for what your trying to do, atleast on stock heads. Unless you have enough money to do both... Plus imho single turbo is better. Any way just wondering, how old are you? What chassis are you building on (s30, s130, z31....)?
  12. Just found out the explorer tranny is a mazda r-1 code "M" with a hydraulic clutch. I think it is ment to have a 10 7/8" OD clutch with a 23 spline imput shaft, tell me what you guys gather from this data, here is the link: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/pdf_documents/ToyoKoygoMazda.pdf
  13. My mustang t-5 is a borg warner..... not a tremec. Not sure about the one in the explorer, where is the part number location, it is up near the shifter on the passenger side huh (can't get up there right now the cats are hot).
  14. What i am wondering now is, how do the rear wheels spin when accelerating at say 2 g's, but they stick when braking at say 4g's? Must have alot to do with weight transfer of course. Think i just got it, the wheel spin is at low speeds where the throttle is applied too viciously with out the level of precision a brake can be applied with, also low down force. Also since the car is moving much faster when doing a 4g brake there is alot more down force causing the wheels to stick alot better. Is this correct? And then when 4g's of acceleration can acctually be done, on a straight alreadyg oing fast, the motor simply can't spin that hard.
  15. Just wondering how much weight a tire adds to the wheel approximately? for 15" by 225mm, 16" by 235mm, and 17" by 245mm just a ruff guess.
  16. Sell it and build something twice as nice. not that it isn't nice, quite contrary i like it alot, but now it is time to build one harder, better, faster, stronger.
  17. Sorry i think i misunderstood, but not sure good question. I know the newer models can calc the torque because they can read the rpms throw the cig lighter. It is an intresting question, but i would doubt it can read your cruising hp.
  18. SWEEET! Where did you get those if i might ask? Also what are your tire specs? Those wheels look kind of big on the Z, i was afraid of that, is your Z lowered? Thanks
