  1. I have an '83 ZXT that I just bought a 944 intercooler for ($149). I might be able to get another one for the same price and weld the two together after taking off end tanks, but that's a BIG maybe. I've seen Bumblezee's install on an S30, but have had the hardest time trying to find any pics of an install on a ZXT. Anybody out there have or know where I can see some pics? TIA, Brad
  2. Zerrari: I'd like to come see your z on the rotisserie.... Brad
  3. Having growen up with a '65 Mustang, and having had a '72 351CJ stang, and a '72 Capri V6, a '75 Town Car, a '79 LTD and currently have a '96 Town Car, I feel I can state that aside from the lousy intake manifold design (coolant xover) in the 4.6 intake manifold, I have had very few problems other than normal maintenance with the cars from Ford that I have had. I have during this time also had three Mitubishi's, two Datsun's and 1 Infiniti. I still have two Datsuns and the Infiniti. I regret selling the Mustang, sold the Capri to my brother (12.5:1 compression, Isky full race cam and valvetrain, Offenhouser Dual Port Intake). Sold the LTD to my brother-in-law when he needed a car and I was getting the Infiniti Q45a. My brother and sister and parents have had bad luck with all GM cars and have stayed away from Chryslers since the early 70's. Don't have anything good or bad to say about them, just don't want one - they are ugly (hemi vehicles anyway) - JMO. I tend to keep cars for a long time and the whole family does too. We doi not purchase FWD cars, and that pretty much shuts GM out. We also will not buy SUV's, thinking that if you need to haul peopole a minivan is the safest way to go, and if you need to haul cargo, a truck is. The family has one of each. Toyota and Ford repectively. I personally stay away from Hondas, as I believe their engines are built a little towoard the light side compared to Toyotas. After my fiasco with the fiance's (now wife's) '90 Stanza, I don't care for Nissans much, but do like the Infiniti Q45a, which started as "our weekend car together" when we had the Stanza and '83ZXT, using it for road trips and traveling across town for family visits here in teh Atlanta area. It is now the wife's car, I use the Lincoln, and the 'ZXT is a weekend fun car (5 speeds are no fun in weekday traffic here). The other Datsun is a '75 that is being torn down for a complete ground up and tt small block Chevy. Once that cart is complete, the '83 will get torn down and redstored, but I will put in a 4l60e tranny in and sell the T5. I'm through shifing in the Atlanta area. It will then become my daily driver again. I bought it when I only had to drive at moswt 15 miles/day, and at one point (for 3 years, 3 miles). I think vey highly of Toyotas.
  4. I used to have a FM on my '83ZXT, for about 2 weeks. LOUD & DRONE. Took it back to the muffler shop that did the installation and had 'em put in a 3" system including cat. 3" oval ultraflow straight thru. I can assure you it sounds powerful at idle, and doesn't get loud anymore.
  5. I'd be leery of anyone in the fuel injection business who thinks that the 280's had MAF. We all know they used AFM's...which are even more restrictive.
  6. Good Luck! And remember, paint is one of the few things you can screw up and fairly easily fix - as compared to mechanical things - say your first engine rebuild. I've already done the engine rebuild, and will eventually paint (done bodywork before too). Remember - no guts, no glory!
  7. Why even rebuild a L28ET, get a couple of engines and worry about rebuilding when you're on the second. Plenty of people putting out 240+ hp with JY engines. I'd get two, and MegaSquirt and intercool it with exhaust and be way ahead of your $5000 budget.
  8. Good news, thanks Warren.
  9. Mario: Could you please keep us appraised about that GNose in your area - what kinds of problem, workmanship, etc?
  10. Watch out - his is a better flowing and "cooler" turbo. The added heat from a stock T3 at higher boost may make a difference as far as timing goes...but probably just need a little more fuel.
  11. I've been thinking of getting an SKS, I already have a Swiss K-31 and several pistols - CZ-52 and Bulgie Makarov. I also have 3 Ruger handguns, a Smith & Wesson semi-auto shotgun, and 2 EAA Witness Full Size Pistols - .45 and 10mm. Forgot about a Beretta .32ACP... I'm lucky - I have a friend that has a Pawn FFL, so things I can't have shipped directly to me via my C&R license can go to him - of course, I also don't have to pay the background check fee, because I have a carry permit.
  12. Yeah, I'm trying to find a big NPR right now - haven't been any on ebay...
  13. I'll state it a different way, all MS does w/EDIS is send it a signal, and EDIS controls the ignition events, including dwell. By using a couple more chips, MS V3 with either MSnS_E or MSII can fully control all aspects of ignition.
  14. Yes, EDIS is wasted spark, but ms doesn't control it. Using a couple more ignitors MS can directly control all facets of ignition....
  15. I'll be interested in this one too... Although I don't see where you would really gain - the EDIS will control the (dwell)spark, not MS. A better idea may be a waste spark system with V3. I THINK all we need to do is put in a couple more VB921's and use a couple more outputs. I'd be interested to know if my understanding is correct.
  16. I'm bumping this in the hope that some more experienced turbo hybrids kick in some opinions...
  17. My brother and I did a ground-up on a '66 short windshield, put 2000 crank and pistons in the engine, a 5-speed, 4.11 LSD.... It was great once we got it on the road, until some dumb biatch hydroplaned into the rear of it in her Nova.
  18. He does have an appropriate username...
  19. I've been through the whole site, but paid attention especially to their evaluation of core types and tank shapes and configuration. According to these guys, the Spearco Type with inlet & outlet on same side is using the 1st 25% of the core (next to the inlet and outlet) for the majority of cooling. Their observations on core types are rather interesting.... ARE Intercoolers Thrown out for comments and opinions.
  20. 1st - one should always be concerned with detonation, and avoid it at all costs. That said, I agree that 12.5 - 12.7 is where you whould be under boost, not 10.5 - you're losing HP and gas. You can also lose HP if timing is not right, as well as mileage. I am about to go MSNS_E,and will be using a knock sensor when tuning, and edge up on the right settings. If you check out the MSEFI forum, you can see a vendor that can supply something that will interface with MS and datalog. It costs ~$60 dollars, anhd I believe it will be money well spent.
  21. With v3.0 you don't need HEI - it drives the coil directly. Sensots can remain stock, and use EasyTherm. Don't necessarily need a relay board, since you already have a fuel injected car that has the relays, but it does make wiring simpler.
