use a can of WD-40, spray a lot on there, let it soke. then go at it with a toothbrush. Might be able to find some markings.

I just wet sanded it with 1000. it turned out pretty nice, it got most of the scratchs out and all the other scratches should be gone once I put 2 more coats on. I might as well buy another can of flat anyways. then I'll start to clear. Sorry no pix, no camera.

I asked a friend of mine that works for the FBI in AZ. She said that how they do it down there is that they make a list of thing that need to be confiscated/impounded before they do a bust. Usually they freeze their assets (business and properties also). Thats for AZ though. If Jay is fully cooperating, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about since the lease is under his name, and since your car is a full tube chassie now, there shouldn't be any problem in believing its stolen. but what johnc said about the engine can be a problem though if they do decide to lock down the shop, but they would of already done that by now.

Does anyone know if you can finish sand flat black? or is it just a finish coat? I ended up spraying my hood with flat black but I forgot to sand it down one more time before I started spraying. Once I realized what I forgot to do, I figured I would deal with it later and sprayed the rest of it. the scratches aren't very noticeable unitll you get up close, so if I can't finish sand it, I will spray a couple more coats, but I am almost out of flat black and only have another can of high gloss black. I dare not use gloss on the hood because its the unvented hood and it show the imperfections alot easier. What do you guys think I should do? I don't want to put too much work into it because I might get a FG hood down the road.

Nice. did you just tape off the window trim? Thats what annoys me, because its usually the first place that starts to ware, or the person that does it doesn't tape it well enought and gets paint on the trim or weather stripping.

Haha. My mom was talking to one of here customers about my 280z a while back. She convinced her to give me a parts car, Unfortunately my mom thought my car was a mastang also. So I ended up having a 64 mustang in the yard that was more than half dead. I ended up selling it for $5000 and all of it went to tuition haha. My response to pintos. They can be made fast. A bill was passed recently that the gas sold in th US would have to be (I think it was 15%) ethanol. I don't know by when though. I know some stations have been selling it for a while now. I think that it would be bad for us because it changes the air/fuel ratio needed to have the ideal ratio (it tends to make cars a little leaner with the same ratio as "normal gas").

In my haynes 280zx book, it shows that the top two rings are different. The NA rings, the outer edge are angled and the turbo are squared somewhat with rounded edges.

There was only one on ebay that I found and it was going for $600 for one rh side headlight. still a bit pricey for me for JUST ONE HEADLIGHT, no electronics. I've seen BMW HID headlights for as low as $100 (for only one side and just the headlight though, but would work in a Z) and a BMW HID conversion kit I've seen go for about $200.

since this is kinda on the same subject. I have a N42 and a N47. Obviously the N42 head was already described and suggestionsm made. My question is how is the N47 in terms of pinging? Would you mill it down 0.06-0.08 like the n42 head, or is it fine? Or should I just try to find a p90 or a p79 head?

Thats the reason why I hate stripes. I always find something wrong. if anything, they would have to sand dull, restripe and re-clear.

I was also planning on doing something like this. I don't know how well the eaton s/c on a Mercades kompressor flows, but the size is about just right. I suppose you could swap the pully assembly, but I don't know s/c that well and don't know if the assemblies are swapable.

I primered, then hand sanded with 200, primered again. then hand saned again with emery(sp, tired) cloth in areas needing bondo. bondo'd, sanded down bondo'd areas using 60 using and a finishing sander (the fast vibration makes it sand as though it is 200, but I suggest using 80 with a finishing sander). Really light coat of bondo in areas with deep scratches and poreous bondo areas. then hit it with finishing sander with emery cloth. Primer, then hand sanded dull with 600. That is what I did to my hood. I'm still deciding color(s).

I usually have one window open just to view the auction and only refesh on that windw. Then I have another window open with my final bid put in already. So all I need to do is hit "place bid" (with me already logged in).

Zinc based primer can be welded on. I don't recommend using it on the whole car though, only in open areas that you clean of picklex to weld on later, used just as a short term rust preventitive.

Isn't the brass seats for leaded gas? And the steel seats for unleaded? I've read this somewhere but I don't remember where.

It could be that needle in the voice module is wearing out. I have a spare voice module if you are interested. the 280zx voice module is a record type playback (think record discs) so you can't real reprogram them.
