  1. It's a shame you don't have a z fanatic close by thats looking to make a few bucks working on a z. That's my MAD money right now. I know I'm not making much on the hourly rate, but can't think of a better way to make some cash for my car. I'm lucky to get 7-10 hours a week on the car, but it enough if I plan well. Like said above, if all else, let it sit until you get that education .
  2. The problem with those AFR gauges is that you wind up fixated on them all the time. When I had too big of pumps and mains in there the engine sounded like it was drowning under WOT accel. It stumbled a bit-but not from fuel startvation. Reading your build again--- a lot of nice work by the way----your cam is pretty damn big, which will probably make tuning harder. Your AFR's might always look rich around transition with that motor, but is it blowing black smoke, what does your plugs look like. Wait till you get that motor broke in and you can drive it HARD, then see where your at. For now itt sounds like you have cruise mode set-up fairly close.
  3. Good thread http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/106649-triple-mikuni-help/?hl=triple mikuni help
  4. Doesn't sound like you are far off. My measly 2.4 runs about the same AFR's at steady cruise and leans a bit just like yours during slight elevations(slight loading). My car seems to like this pilot arrangement for cruise and you'll probably see some decent MPG running those AFR's. I'd leave the pilots alone-this isn't giving you rich AFR's-that's for sure. Your dealing with a fresh engine that you can't hammer on -which makes it tough to dial things in. Also, cam and acc pumps has a lot to do with this. 45's shoot a ton of fuel in there, you might consider smaller like 40's. Haven't read your whole build, but a large cam won't want to burn all that fuel down at the lower rpms.
  5. I suggested hard tip ins above 3500 to be above the pilot circuit, so you can read AFRS on the main circuit. What main air jets are you running? Too small of main airs might be bringing the mains in too early.
  6. 170's are big. What accelerator pumps are you running? What's your ignition timing set at? It will be hard to dial in those carbs doing hard tip-ins at lower rpms. Dial in your mains above 3500rpm - don't do a hard WOT until you are above 3500. Hard tip-ins on my motor at low rpms show rich AFR's also, but above 3500 they are perfect.
  7. Looks like my MSA ceramic coated header I bought years ago. Unequal length pipes into twin 50mm outlets--which i continued on all the way out back. Sound is better than I could have imagined. Don't care about weight or HP loss---if any---it makes the driving experience the total package.
  8. Great to see some more videos from you Phil. We need to hear and see some video looking from the outside, or by a chase car-if they could keep up. Looks like a total handful!!
  9. Might want to look at this thread I started over at Classic. I had many phone conversations with Todd at Wolfcreek in the process of working on my 40's. He was very specific about float settings-down to the mm. Todd is very knowledgable, but doesn't like his time wasted. So if you plan on calling-better have a game plan and know your Mikuni parts. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/carburetor-systems-s30/45836-triple-mikuni-thread.html
  10. I remember reading your other thread. I think you need to nail down your fuel pump/regulator issue first. As I have read many times on this site, the Mikuni's are very sensitive to fuel pressure.
  11. Are you sure you have the floats dead nuts? It would seem that you could get that big 2.9 to run fairly close with the 52.'s. I know it has a lot to do with cams , but I run 70's with my 2.5 No smoke and smells like a carbed motor in the garage-umm-yep. Not trying to a smart ass, but I think it is hard to judge anything that way. Not sure you will be able to idle a Mikuni fueled 2.9 in the garage without stinking a bit. Like Jon said, turn the pilots out a turn and see what your LM2 says. What's the condition of the carbs-especially the pilot screws? Hopefully your gauge will be okay. I know for a fact that a blown HG kills the sensor. It will probably act erratic if it is bad.
  12. I bet it is tensioner noise - sounds cool
  13. In hindsight I wish i drove the Ford when shopping for hatchbacks, but I'm pretty happy with my turbo Sonic. The price was a factor since I was trying to stay under 20k for my DD. The Sonic isn't the power house of the RS Focus, but it does alright. I was also compromising with my purchase to have something that had great leg room for my 6'2" son, and the Sonic has a great amount of room. The ride is quiet and comfortable and the car handles great. I think they came out with a RS model on the Sonic that might need to be looked at. Plus Trifecta Tune has come out with a box to add like 80HP and 90lbs of torque to my Sonic-might have to check it out.
  14. I'm probably one of the few that will want the low profile option. Hopefully someone will help out by offering those for replication. Of course I have never seen either lens option up close and in person, so maybe I am judging incorrectly. i'd love to see both versions pictured next to each other ON a car.
  15. Yes, they look great, and I think they finish out the design of this car. I get many comments on the flimsy MSA ones on my car now. Yours will be thicker plastic I hope? I also like the idea of having a choice on the trim ring!
  16. You might consider taking this to Classic Z Car or Zcar.com. I myself have been waiting for someone to tackle this project, and I'm quite sure there's others from all these sites. I think a quality repro would do well on Ebay also. Don't know if all the years I have been on these sites that I have seen anyone try reproducing these elusive covers. Anxious to see how they turn out!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. If you don't own one, consider buying a 12" table disc sander. It is a great way of fine tuning the angles on the pipe and no sleeves needed
  18. Especially good for the wide ratio of the BWT-5 !!!
  19. Ari is a straight up guy. i actually forgot about money he owed me-but he still sent it.

      Thank you Steve.

  21. I recently ordered a carpet kit for a 240z from Rock Auto. It was the cheapest I could find and it was made by ACC carpet. The kit was 100.00$ more ordering direct from ACC. So I guess Rock Auto bought a bunch! Only complaint was there was no slits for the luggage straps, which most kits don't have anyway.
  22. There is no Best on Hybridz - remember? If I would do it over again regarding weatherstripping I would by Nissan- especially glass seals.
