AFM? Mabey there is a dead spot in the afm. Pull cover and clean well. also contacts on the tps and afm.
The egr, canister and pump (fuel?) should not be any kinda problem for you. The dash pot should not be a promblem ethier since it just slows the thottle on it's return to closed postition.
Check everyware for vacumme leaks.
Measure the ohms of all those gauges wired like that.
Also grounding all to the mount area might help, you might have a ground loop going on.
Try disconneting the grounds and let the mount do the grounding for you?
The tear down is cheap.
The point of this thread is to show "hindsight" and after pics.
I will start different threads with what I'am doing realative to each project. (failures and success)
The weigh in will hopefully give better search engine results.
What will be the consideration to the winner? Word and picture wise?
I have not yet read your magazine, is it geared more towards the new and not the exotic?
20 words to discribe years of work restoring the s30's that I've seen, dose not seem very adequate.
Hey thanks for weighing in:). Funny thing is I did not know that any of zx's came with a knock sensor. I will have to search that. That's kinda what I thought but I swear I never heard of one on this engine.
I got a a VERY good source for machine work, so no worries their.
Part of the reason for this thread is to report back what I find as I do my very slow build in order to give "hindsight" information for YE OLDE SEAECH BUTTON:)!
Thanks again.
Take the tps cover off and clean the contacts.
When it is off you will also be able to aline it as well. (Since you will be able to understand how it functions a bit better.)
Ok this is the engine from a junkyard that had a 280zxt with 190k on it.
It had a automatic tranny and was a 83.
These pics are to show ware on parts and to get some ideas on how well the engine was taken care of.
The turbo is seized tight.
I pushed the pistons out the top of the engine b/c there was no compression lip to speak of. Out side of yellowish ring markings the cyls look great.
Personally the bearing look "cooked". This is after I had wiped them down.
Photo of piston skirts. (Yes I'am aware of setting these things on concrete I was very careful) BTW Kids started playing with them saying that they were trophies. Watched "Cars" to many times. Told my daughter that they were pistons and she asked if she can still call them trophies and I said sure why not. I love kids.
This image was posted before by me but I thought it would be insightfull on this thread as well.
One last thing. What is this sensor? I would search for it but at the moment I call it thingy. It is not into a oil passage or water jacket.
It is just into the block.
Looking forward to your insight on over all ware and what to look for during restoration of engine based on ware.
Ok, so big phil endevoreds, with his latest viedo, that he has had alot of recent problems.
Personally he now knows far more than I do. Wait,, that bridge was crossed a long time ago.
You know the car very well, yet you did not finish your work with the tune.
If a mind like yours has become board a bit that is understandable.
Your vigour an motivation has been greatly admired by myself over time. If you desire to change the Iron under your butt it is... understandable.
Have you read the efi bible?
besides a compression test, what is all the trouble shooting you have done and the results?
The problem is that you have really not given anyone enough information to even give a resonalbe trobleshooting guess.
Trying to get the car running, it is so close I can taste the exhaust fumes. Other than that, BBQ and a few repairs around the place.
Kill two brids one stone, while warming up said engine place grilling rack over exught manifold, or just apply winners directly;)
I"AM NO EXPERT!
With that said, how is yeild strenth tested on a bolt verses a frame?
130,000 dose not seem that much when you think of bumping .... oh lets say a curb sideways at 10mph.
The work is fantastic and seems relatively simple hence a good idea. I think the thing that bothers me is going from a frame to a cylender makes me pause to think a momemnt of lateral forces on the compondant.
I'am unsure just interested.
^^LOL!
Smoke = heat = resistance << Yea if you want to call a shorted wire a resistor. Techniclly true but odd to think of it in that way.
I.E. braker bar between battery terminals.
WOWZERS that's alot of metal.
I know what you are saying about edges and points I kinda like to see some of the machineist weigh in on this. I personally considered doing this my self as well, buuutttt.
