  1. thanks! I'm definitely staying NA.
  2. my picture is fine, apparently though, you have nothing useful to say.
  3. I would think that all else being equal (as BJs experience dictates) that the BMW might be a bit safer in a mishap on the track.
  4. one last question, for now. Is the carbon on top of the block indicative that the pistons dont come all the way to the top of the block on compression?
  5. I know its a stupid question, but the PO of the car said it he replaced the original with a turbo engine in anticipation of a future upgrade. When I took the headers off today, I see its an N42 and not an F54. It was rebuilt by a commercial engine rebuilder and has a p90 head, so I just want some confirmation. Maybe they used whatever block they had. Also, looking at the cylinder walls and all the honing marks, is any other prep needed other than a good cleaning. I plan on replacing the pistons with nissan motorsports pistons and upgrading to an MSA cam, but I don't know which one yet. I am staying NA with SUs.
  6. where do these hoses go? I know 2 of the 3 are for the heater, which is currently bypassed, but where does the 3rd one go? Both the Haynes and Clymer manuals don't have a clear picture of the cooling system other than it enters and exits the engine on the front portion.
  7. I'm getting ready to pull my turbo pistons out and replace them with flat tops. The engine was a rebuilt one from the previous owner, so they should be in good shape. email me mike@thepowdercoater.com and I will let you know how they are when I get them out. I've got the engine out of the car yesterday, so I should have it torn down within the week.
  8. Sorry to hear it, will say a special prayer for his family tonight.
  9. that looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product.
  10. I forgot to tighten the lugs on my last 240 once. Luckily a guy flagged me down when he saw my tire wobbly. I was only going about 20 on a military base, so I really didn't feel it. I had 2 lugs left. Its a lesson you never forget.
  11. because with my last Z, I did all the prep work and then paid a navy aircraft painter who worked in my Division to do the final paint and it came out like crap. I would rather let a professional do the final part. Yeah, Maaco and Earl Scheib are cheap, but those guys spray all day every day. If you bring in a prepped car, you will get a decent job for very little $$.
  12. metal doesn't necessarily bend and give when you hit a rock or pothole. I hit a 6" piece of granite with both drivers side wheels in the dark in our old bmw and this is what happened:
  13. What he said Cruez, where did you get that sweet white powder?
  14. awesome! I turned my powdercoating hobby into a $3-5000/month business, you can too, just need to find your niche !
  15. sent you the paypal, didn't realize we are neighbors (sort of, I'm about 20 miles down Hwy 20)
  16. welcome Mike, this is one of the best group of forum members around!
