I don't know anything about this generation of engines in the 3 but the earlier 323 and MAYBE the Protoge' was using the lower end engine block from Ford and all the upper parts were from Mazda. If your car never had A/C then check out the new Vintage Air compact kits instead of scrounging around and trying to make one fit, i think they have the new Gen II mini sysytem in their online catalog on page 18. It might save you time and it's geared more for the 134A gas than the more expensive and hard to find R12. Reminds me of the time i was asking how many amps a jumper booster box had and the manager of the autozone told me it wasn't a battery charger.
