Richracing, Candy33, Could you guys also post the pictures of the RX8 and RSX seats fitting in the 280Z into this post I started years ago, it is for the 280Z only as they have the Cat tunnel hump which really limits the seat choices that work with the 240-260Z. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/88301-280z-seat-swap-list/ Thanks, Greg

I found an old Ford truck with the column mounted PRNDL indicator and painted the clear plastic black and mounted 2 green and 1 blue 12V led bulbs and wired them to the existing wiring. I ground down the unit to match the steering column cover and used black double stick tape to keep it in place.

The 280Z unibody is pretty strong and most bracing in not really needed like in the 240Z. That said for piece of mind, I cut 1/8" steel plates to reinforce the front frame rails with the floor Baddog rails at the junction of the dog leg and also welded the edge to the firewall. I then welded in the custom T56 mount to the floor pan and the Baddog rails, the center section of the mount has 2 large bolts on each side. (The drawings for this T56 mount are on this site, if you can't find it I have it) I then fabricated a 3 point front strut bar brace and a triangulated rear strut bar brace. I also welded in more plate to the front frame rails for the large sway bar mounts.

I tried to get to my messages, I clicked on it and just get the spinning arrows? Oh, and the link from the email notification that I have a new conversation/message does not work either.

I like the side pipes although I'm a little partial to them LOL Whose pipes are those? the trouble I had was finding any that had an I.D. that was at least 2.5", most were less than 2" so I made my own.

Actually it is called the SES light and unless you have a resistor attached to the OCM to simulate the light the fans will be on all the time and the motor will only run in limp mode. A simple bulb and 12V is all that is needed. I like the SES light as it turns on when starting and if it doesn't go off after starting then you have some codes tripped. There are a bunch of threads on this including some of mine, just search for SES light or check engine light. Being the old geezer that I am I couldn't remember if it actually kept it from starting or from running correctly out of limp mode and fans on all the time.

V8 Scarab Registration/Numbering/Logos
gvincent replied to Mdantonio's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I would be interested in the SCARAB badges etc and I think the V8 registry is a great idea, It add a bit of "officiality" to our v8 hybrids. It would be nice to have this in place for ZCON 2013 in New England next summer. I just had 2 Silver vinyl SCARAB decals custom made that are very similar to the SCARAB boat manufacturer lettering, I had a mirror pair made for the left and right side. After getting the decals I thought about changing them to SCARAB II like the Avanti II cars???? Thoughts??? That way we are not stepping on the Pure Scarab car or kit owners. I read somewhere recently that there are only 18 original SCARAB cars left. I will mount them this upcoming weekend and take some pictures. I would of had it done this weekend but the hurricane weather was not cooperating. Send the pic and I will upload if I still can, I might have to "Donate" to get posting privileges back? gregory.vincent@comcast.net -
Don't forget the SEL light for the PCM to work and start the car without a simple bulb for the SEL the car will not start.

I used the T5 metal slave also, I liked that it was metal instead of the plastic one that came in the 1995 Firebird T56 and of course you can bleed it installed. Seth it is looking real good!

Spark plugs hitting headers
gvincent replied to misturmoneybags's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I used the aluminum 90 degree spark plug boots from a 95 LT1 Camaro or Firebird (F Body) and they work great and look great after a wire wheel polish. They fit over my Taylor 90 degree wires perfectly. I have the Sanderson Block headers. I am not sure if the B Body LT1 motors use them. Go to the junk yard and grab some, you may have to grab some from more than 1 car as they are not easy to reach. Here is a set on Ebay for less that $20 http://www.ebay.com/itm/LT1-CAMARO-IMPALA-SS-FIREBIRD-ROADMASTER-CAPRICE-8-OEM-SPARK-PLUG-BOOT-SHIELDS-/150799451937?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231c590721&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1413 Taylor has some metal jackets as well here: http://www.taylorvertex.com/Products/index.cgi/sparkPlugBootHeatProtection -
Looks good! As soon as I am healthy enough to start wrenching again I too am going to do a spoiler swap on the 76 LT1. I have the MSA type II spoiler and rear bumper skirt on the 76Z right now and have had a 3 piece IMSA urethane spoiler kicking around for at least a dozen years. I'll either bolt on the 3 Piece IMSA or maybe trade or find a california Z wing. Greg

NIcely Done! Another LT Z car Oh Yeah! Greg

Well I never got to locating one and getting this fixed this year so I am going to try again this off season to locate one, so I am still in need of a 75-76 280Z NON AC (no vacuum) heater control valve Thanks, Greg
-
What year Jetta? they look great! How much modification did you do to the tunnel hump, cut remove and weld back in or the Big Hammer method? Pics of the modified hump would be nice Thanks for posting this on the thread, we need all the seat installs we can find for the 280Z, and the late 260Z which I didn't know had the hump also. Greg

Thanks Calpoly-Z keep us posted, Check out Padam07 and KJ280Z they both have done Celica seats but in different ways both are on this thread a page back. FYI I just measures the Yonaka Samuri racing seats that someone in my town had for sale but they won't fit, they are 19" wide at the bottom rear, we need 18 and they are 22" wide at the shoulder pad and we need 21" max or the door won't shut. http://www.yonaka.com/Yonaka_Samurai_Cloth_p/ymrs006.htm I could of had them for $300. Thanks, Greg

pictures of an S30 with Cragar S/S rims?
gvincent replied to logan1's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Always loved the look of the Cragar SS and had many sets on all my cars during the 60's, 70's and 80's but because they are 5 spoke they are all 5 lug Had them on all these cars I once owned and wish I had kept any one of them: 68 Camaro SS 396 68 Firebird Formula 400 72 Nova SS 350 1964 Ranchero 289 1965 GTO 389 1971 Camaro RS 1971 Gran Prix SJ 455 -
Arif, there is an S2000 seat install in the 280Z swap list here: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/88301-280z-seat-swap-list/ We all would be interested to see how your install goes, Perhaps you can post to the 280Z seat swap list thread with a link to your thread? Thanks, Greg

Thanks everybody for the replies, I was able to finally find a place that still boils out gas tanks and they were able to salvage it, line the inside and weld on some AN fittings, it is drying out now and I should have it installed and running this weekend. Thanks again everyone. Greg

Let me know what you want for the tank, I have a couple more tanks lined up as well. as for some trade stuff I have a lot of parts from the 83 turbo swap, auto trans, differential, interioe stuff, door stuff, rear hatch, all kinds of electrical. 78 280Z rear bumper, stock hubcaps from a 76 and a bunch more, E88 head complete with can and fuel pump. Greg

Unless anybody has an other Ideas on swappable tanks the LS1 is the only plastic tank swap I know of. Tanks Inc does have a universal plastic tank but it doesn't show the filler neck on the side in the picture but I haven't called to see if it can be side mounted. In the picture there does seem to be an area for the fill neck on the side but I would call first. They don't have much detail on their site. The tanks are only $215 but of course once your done with an internal pump with a sump tray and other accessories you are around $500 http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=83/category_id=133/home_id=59/mode=prod/prd83.htm Greg

I have to replace my 76 280Z tank and was researching my choices: I don't want to go with a fuel cell I can't afford a custom tank The most popular swap it seems is the 98-2002 F-body Camaro and Firebird LS1 tanks. I have searched but there are no recent write-ups on the LS1 tank installs with pictures, all the picture links have expired. This one is 7 years old and is a very good write up by CruxGNZ but the pictures are gone. I would of loved to have this made into a stickie with pictures. http://forums.hybrid...l-tank-install/ Bartman has a good thread also but again no more pictures. http://forums.hybrid...showtopic=36039 Cheesepocket has a couple of picture of a tank from Tanks Inc. But I would like to know more about details of his install http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=121/category_id=69/home_id=59/mode=prod/prd121.htm So has anyone tried using another tank from another car? Is there an alternative tank that can be used that doesn't involve cutting out the spare tire well? I will probably go with an LS1 tank swap myself as it is still cheaper it seems than having somebody like Moyer split open a Z tank and rebuild it. Greg

I know this is an old thread but if anyone downloaded the pics to go with this thread I would love to get a copy. It seems I am having to go this route as my 76 280Z tank is junk after being boiled out, there is still too much rust inside. I have the LT1 V8 conversion and was starving for fuel at WOT anyway PM or email me thanks Greg
-
I need to replace my fuel tank, the one I have has been boiled out but is still too rusty inside and will need to be split open, sandblasted, repaired sump pickup tube and then welded back together, this cost is more than I can afford. Anybody have a good clean tank for the 75-76 280Z laying around? Have PayPal can pay right away. I have lots of parts also so let me know if you need anything and we can work out a cash/parts trade maybe Thanks, Greg

Hey any seat swap projects this summer for our 280Z's Please tell us your story and add pictures please. Looks like Blown77Z just fitted some S2000 seats here: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/101058-s2000-seat-install/ Thanks to all and keep them coming Greg

Nice looking Z Curious as to what rims those are and the size, what size tire? and rubbing issues? No lowering springs, stock ride height? I could almost read the size from one of the pictures but not quite.
