Deja, I saw the same show but being the ole geezer I am couldn't remember who made it
-
I also have a V8 and have had nightmares about this happening some day!
-
I'm running an external Mallory but I did some research a while back and I remember some Walbro in tank pumps from a Mustang were being used by some people. There are universal adjustable height ones out there.

ouch, good luck, it is always a nightmare tracing the stock harness with all it's own soldered splits etc let alone other peoples wiring hacking. i have an unmolested 1983 turbo car harness listed in the classifieds, it is actually 3 separate harnesses that plug into each other, front body, dash central harness and the rear harness, i don't know if it will work on a 2+2 NA though, the rear might be too short in length and the Dash might be different at the instrument cluster. I do not have the engine harness but I do have everything else including modules, relays etc.

V8 Scarab Registration/Numbering/Logos
gvincent replied to Mdantonio's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Any updates? When are you planning on getting the registry started and are all the emblem prototypes done? I haven't seen the other ones. When will they become available? I was thinking about Scarab II so we don't offend the Original Scarab owners...Kind of like the Avanti and the Avanti II what is everybody's thoughts on this? Greg -
I just starting mine, engine is in, now trying to figure out where or how to mount or re-locate the AFM, Trouble with searching is all the pictures have expired. Did anyone ever answer your question?

SO 17" at the base Hmmm. I measure mine at a good safe 18" and could get 18.5 maybe without tunnel bashing. anybody know how much we gain with a tunnel bash? 19.5 maybe? a lot of seats say 20.5 but don't exactly say where they measured, most likely the top of the seat? then you have the recliner mechanism to figure in also I suppose. What's a good safe width for shoulder wings without having door closing problems on the door or arm rest? Keep up the good postings! Greg

You will definitely need a new flywheel, the LT1 won't work it doesn't have the balancing you need for the 400. Besides Centerforce I think MaCleod (spelling) make one too. You will need a new master and slave, the plastic Master out of the Camaro will not fit, a Tilton and others are a direct fit and mate well to the linkage, there are previous write ups on this as well. The Plastic slave has no bleeder and depending on how you run your exhaust it could get a little warm and melt, you can pick up a cheap T5 metal slave at AutoZone for $35 and it has a bleeder, you will need a GM Quik-Connect to AN adaptor fitting and a length of 4AN braided hose to go from the Tilton master to the T5 slave, the Tilton already has AN fittings. Just bolt them up, attach the linkage, fill with fluid and bleed and your ready to go. There is also a write up on the T5 slave and the GM-AN adaptor. Good luck, Greg

Yes and no, it will BOLT right up to a first gen 400 block but you will need a special flywheel for the first gen block and balanced for the 400 tthen you can mate it to an LT1 clutch. You need it to be an LT1 T56, an LS1 T56 will not work, you would need to change the bell housing and the input shaft as it is too long. Do a search, myself and others have covered this topic before.

About 11 months of weekend time and a few nights, I am not a welder so had to have a friend do all my welding and make the T56 bracket. it is the small stuff that adds the most time, first startup with overheating issues, solved, rough running with sticky injectors, solved, bad OPTI cable, solved, then the engine knock......source another engine, pull motor and trans and swap and re-install 3 weekends, clean up wiring another 6 weekends finally registered and on the street all told took about 18 months. Of course you are never finished, you have a winter list every year and only get through about half of it.

I only have LT1/OBD1 experience and none with the LSX series engines ButI I know with the LT1 motor getting all the air out is critical because of the reverse flow heads etc they even have bleeder screws at the high point and I still jacked the nose up to make the radiator cap the highest point. If the fan is staying on all the time then there is a problem and the motor is running in limp mode, On the OBD1 you need to set the low speed fan Hi and Low temp and the Hi speed fan Hi and Low temp, I am assuming the OBD2 is the same. I have a 160 degree thermostat and a two speed Taurus fan I set the Low speed low temp at 180 and the High speed low temp at 190, the car has never run hotter than 190 even on the hottest new england summer day in traffic... the fan does kick on often in traffic though.

Wow that was a lot of work..I love the sound too and it does get a lot of attention while driving at the cruise events, I still may order the chrome grille from Summit but it only comes in a 36" length and I have 40" 4 inch glass packs. I'm running the glass packs direct to the headers, I can keep it quiet when I have to, but put my foot into it and all bets are off

What model Corbeau are those? Do you think they would they fit a calorically challenged person in the 5'-9" with a 38" waist/235Lbs range?

V8 Scarab Registration/Numbering/Logos
gvincent replied to Mdantonio's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
My guess is once it is registered in the state or country you live in and has license plates? Thoughts??? I don't know what you want to avoid is registering a car that never gets completed...There have been some projects where the owner has had to sell off the project due to circumstances and the car is never completed and then maybe parted out??? I know some are never registered and are strictly race cars??? God question, I would like to hear some other thoughts. Greg -

Hey CJC you made it back on, Yeah, I figured it would take a moderator to figure out what was wrong with your login issues, Thank you John Coffey. I like what I see so far, Looking forward to seeing the other emblems and the registry. Will we be issued Numbers? Greg -

76 lt1 conversion VSS question
gvincent replied to Doomfinger's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Ask them directly, it sounds like it should. Painless has the experience and makes LT1 wire harnesses for our application so maybe you found something here. -

76 lt1 conversion VSS question
gvincent replied to Doomfinger's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well not sure I can help here, I have the T56 transmission which has the VSS and yes the VSS info is very important to the computer for the Lt1 as it is constantly monitored and adjustments are made constantly to your timing, injectors etc, according to your vehicle speed, the Throttle Position Sensor and Oxy sensors and air flow meter especially add to the mix. Maybe there is an VSS available for the T5, I would have to think so as I think the T5 is still used on computerized cars, the 94 was still an OBD1 computer, did the standard shift 6 clyinder Camaro and Firebirds use a T5? Mustangs maybe? The VSS signal out of the T56 VSS is a 4Khz square wave pulse. Welcome to the LT1 family of Z cars, I know a lot of guys are going with LSX engines now but I love my LT1, very dependable, fast, easy to upgrade and a prettier motor () also. Oh, Don't believe everything you read about the Optispark as long as it is the vented one there are no problems. My friends Caddy has 190K and still has the original opti cap and rotor! Greg -
Bostonzman, how did you make out with the Corbeau LG1 seats? I am focusing on reclining aftermarket seats that will take a harness now. Have a ZCCNE member with Corbeau seats in his 280Z but he has to bend the lumbar wings to get the doors to shut, the car is in storage right now so I don't know the exact model seat. anybody else have any lick with reclining aftermarket seats that can take a harness? How about the Sparco R100? Corbeau A4? Cobra?

Finally got around to mounting the SCARAB decals on the left and right front fenders, I removed the 280Z emblem and put the SCARAB decal where the emblem was. I got around to donating again so I am uploading4 pictures. Cjc send me the prototype pictures and I will upload them for you. I would really like to see this Idea move forward and think it is a great idea. ZCON 2013 is in New England this August and I will be there showing and working the convention as a member of the ZCCNE Please try and make the Z car National convention this year in beautiful New England. Is it a 280Z? Trying to find seats for the 280Z and the dreaded tunnel Cat hump, without bashing it in or cutting it out and welding in a flat piece. Here is the 280Z seat swap list I started a few years ago. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/88301-280z-seat-swap-list/ If it is a 280Z I would appreciate it if you posted some pics in that thread also. Thanks, Greg
