  1. Nice job on the exhaust! It looks like 3'' piping fom the Y pipe back to a Borla?? That's definatly going to be loud but, i'm sure a resonator can be added if it ends up being a little raspy. Regardless, i'm sure it'l sound good with a Borla on there. About the wiring.... Are you going to use the 350Z gas pedal and ignition/key system? Another concern I have is bypassing the fuel pump, and other electronics like the cluster, and all the other junk we wont be using. I'm hoping youl be saving/logging important data as you will be helping future VQ swappers including me.
  2. I scored a VQ35DER from my buddies wrecked 2006 350Z with only 18K miles. Very unfourtunate for him. I felt bad for him so I bought his engine and trans to help him out... On the way back to my place I weighed the engine (complete w/o AC compressor) 6-speed transmission, wiring harness and electronics and it came in at 580 LBS total. After stripping the engine and trans down I noticed there are tons of places to loose weight like misc. metal brackets, power steering pump, metal dampers, and a 45 LB clutch and flywheel.... yes 45 LBS! apparently the Tilton clutch and flywheel set is the way to go with these engines.. 14 LBS.. I first plan on getting the engine dropped in with a crossmember style engine mount and then tackling the wiring to run the stock ecu. I definately have to run a fuel return so i'm going to mod the fuel rails just as Austin has. As far as exhaust goes I still don't know yet but, I sure don't want it to sound very civil like your ordinary G35 or 350Z. I'm excited as i'm hoping to loose around 100 LBS and gain 100 HP from my previous setup. Also the tightness in gear ratios of the 6-speed is going to be a big plus.
  3. Wow, I don't know if I could accept that responsibility. The only way I could really enjoy that thing (if it wasn't mine) is in a controlled environment like a racetrack.
  4. I'm sure all kinds of people are hating.. but man that thing sounds sick!
  5. Your probably going to find most of the info you need about the RB25DE on skylines down under forums. Most aftermarket headers are made for R33 skylines and going to have to be modified for an RB in an S30. My guess is that your going to have clearence issues with firewall and maybe brake booster so custom headers might be the best option. Also try searching " extractors" on skyline based forums. BTW redline on my RBDE is 7k
  6. I noticed the same problem. I'm using energy poly rack bushings on my '71. Does anybody make solid bushings? I was considering making brackets to hold the rack solid to the X member.
  7. Armand, Did you forget to mention other engine mods? because I still don't understand how a redtop with an I/C and exhaust and running 14lbs max can produce 255WHP. We should should set- up a local car meet sometime.
  8. Looking good Armand. About your projected numbers.. I'm really familiar with the SR, I think you might be over shooting your expectations with your projected numbers. 255 RWHP equates to about 300 hp at the crank. I'm estimating low 13's on a good day.
  9. Austin, Did you get a chance to weigh the VQ and 6-speed trans? I got a little mixed up reading this thread. Are you going to run the autronic or stock Nissan electronics?
  10. This must be a joke..... I hope.
  11. If it's not a built engine it's probably going to sound cheap and unrefined at low-med revs (like mine) but sounds pretty bad ass at the higher revs (IMO). Where would the exhaust exit? in front of the tire in the fender well? rear rocker? The rocker might be a bit tricky.
  12. Glad to hear your hard work has paid off and your actually enjoying your car. Im surprised that your stock brakes are holding up with the new power. Your stock setup must be working properly. Not to be a jerk or anything, but shouldn't this be in the motorsports or non tech section?
  13. As a street car w/ 14'' wheels it was the front air dam that scraped everywhere. With a passenger it was my rear fenders. Definately no fat chicks. After switching to 17's nothing scrapes!
  14. If you see the thread I posted there are some pictures on how I routed the exhaust through the t/c box. Your going to have to get creative if your going to go through frame or fenderwells and reinforce those areas. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=130249 Although it is loud, I do enjoy the noise at high revs from time to time. Also, heat really isnt an issue with my engine and exhuast and, beleive it or not my cabin stays cooler than before.
  15. Youl need 10mm brake nuts to connect to any of the Nissan MC's and brake parts (same for Toy Calipers). If your switching to AN fittings it would be easier to just use 10mm to AN adapters. I wouldnt plumb in a prop valve just yet if your still going to run drums as you will loose some rear bias. Wilwood and Tilton make nice stuff.
  16. You might might to check the archives. I think someone mentioned using a 1'' MC from a Niaasn hardbody pickup.
