  1. if you are talking about a 12k motor, you can get an LS7 for that much.
  2. no but there are several LSx motor mount kits out there. not to mention anyone who is swapping a motor should be able to make custom mounts. getting the motor in is easy.
  3. no its not something i have done. the guy i bought the car from did exactly what i would have done, cut up F body mounts and welded them to the car. preseto, done. getting a LT1 into the car is going to be just as dificult as an LS1
  4. buy an LS1 and put a $3000 dry sump on it. you would still be well in your $6000 range and you would have a motor that is at the base of performance, rather than the peak (sbc). the probably with LSx motors is that the oil gets away from their pickup tubes, the simple solution is to run an extra quart of oil. an LSx with rodbolts, valve springs, pushrods and a capable oiling system could stay at 7,000rpm for days on end.
  5. you can buy kits to make LS1s bolt into gen 1 sbc mounts. so buy JTR mounts and then buy this other kit. that is if you cant weld in motor mounts. getting a motor into a car is almost always the easiest part of a fuel injected motor swap. then comes wiring and fuel...
  6. chrome powedercoat is a very nice alternative, it is a bit shiner than polished aluminum, but a tad duller than chrome, but the good news is that because its paint itll never pit, flake or come off, just treat it like paint. price wise it should only run in the $200 range max.
  7. if an LS1 is hurt, you will probably know it. the motors dont come appart very often, and if they do they chuck a rod or spin a bearing.. the only time you would need to do a compression check is to see if its got a blown headgasket (very minor problem) or the freak case that it has a cracked liner. stock power would not crack a liner though.
  8. LT1, LS1 or one of the cast iron block truck motors (little lighter than LT1s, 70 lbs more than LS1/2) LS1s put down 350hp completely stock. so even though you would spend more in the start, you would have you hp goal immediately, and be able to pick up 100 hp with just a cam swap. junkyards want less than a $1000 for a complete 5.3, 6.0s are more, up to around $1500
  9. i too belive that it looked better before the body kit... it still looks beautiful, and im sure it looks even better in person. i love your center console, makes me want to make a badass aluminum center console.
  10. most of the 'carbon fiber hoods' are fiberglass with carbon fiber around them. its really expensive and hard to make a 100% carbon fiber hood. the carbon fiber/fiberglass hoods are still lighter than a completely fiberglass hood. i plan on getting one
  11. what you should know is that LS1s are overpriced. buy a 6.0 truck motor.
  12. removing interior, putting rollcage in it, removing door supports, fiberglass or no bumpers and then a fiberglass or carbon hood, lexan windows. anything more than that and IMO you could be spending your time better elsewhere also a good way to lighten up the car is to put an LS1 and a solid axle in it
  13. well almost all front brakes are located at the 3 oclock position, reguardless of year, make etc, some rear brakes are mounted at 3 oclock and some are mounted at 9 oclock. just speaking from "common sense" i would think that mounting the rear caliper at the 9 oclock positon would help nose dive somewhat. if it was at 3 oclock it would seem like it would want to pick the rear end up..
  14. we bought our Caprice for $300 and it runs/drives/looks great
  15. ok, so dont think im trying to be stupid here BUT.. later on are you going to put 2 or more rotors on the front if it? the thing that intrests me the most about the rotor engines is that you can stack as many of them as you want on top of each other as you want
  16. LS7 ftw LSx motors are by far the best V8 in the universe
  17. shouldnt do that swap, 1. you can get motors cheaper, 2. thats to much for the car. police cars are fine to buy, we own a 00 B4C camaro with 160,000 on it, a 01 B4C with 130k on it, a 95 caprice with 95k on it and a 00 impala with 117k on it, all run/drive fine
  18. only thing id change about the exterior of the car would be the Olive drab green paint.. i think it would look sick if it was matte black or matte white instead.
  19. the hood on my 73 says empty weight is around 2200 lbs
  20. i was thinking about using 2 honda velocity stacks... i know they are readily availble and fairly cheap
  21. there was a drag rail back in the 60s, had 2 nail head buick V8s side by side. they both attached to a flywheel. one crank spun clockwise, the other couterclockwise. (reversed firing order)
  22. jerks. for months i was searching for a 16x8 wheel to go on these cars. granted that this is a 16x7.. i still probably would have bought some over my 15x7s.. they should make a 16x8, its a very common tire size, seeing as it was on third gen and 4th gen camaros both.. oh well, ill just have to deal with my gold 15x7 rewinds i guess
  23. the lime green/yellow color its awesome.. with black accents the color looks great i would have painted mine back that color but instead i decided on navy blue metallic
  24. by datsun standards your car is excelent. my car (which is pretty much the same color on the inside) had rust in the a pillar exactly where yours did, and ive seen several others with rust there. all in all you got one of the best chassis ive seen in a while to start out with. you plan on painting it back that sweet lime/yellow color?
