  1. just keep in mind that he cast motors are only 70 lbs heavier... the only accessories that you are going to retain is the alt. and its just one bracket you have to buy. an oil pan and pickup tube is 200 bucks shipped to your door. i have both an LS1 and a LQ4 sitting in my garage. and i am putting an LQ4 in my car if that tells you anything
  2. dont bother getting a donor car. you can buy the truck variation of the LS1 motors really cheap (800-2500). and you can put a carb on them also. you could easily have a LQ4 (truck 6.0 V8) and carb for under 2k. then your T56 would be another 1000-2500. you could have a carbed Gen3/4 and T56 setup in your garage for 4000 easily..
  3. uhhh.. it does just bolt up. you use whatever stall you want with a TH350/400 and then you have a TCI flexplate that goes on the motor..
  4. just buy a Gen III/IV motor... you can have a truck 6.0 or 5.3 motor complete for $1000... if you dont want fuel injection you can do a carbed conversion also. swapping in one of the later model motors isnt anymore difficult than doing a gen 1 or 2 motor.. but the newer motors are so much more of a motor. 6 bolt mains, stock heads that flow more than almost all after market SBC heads... etc. and you can use all the older auto transmissions with it also.
  5. i want to hear more about that car. thats awesome... my guess would be that its an S10 frame..
  6. i just need a LT1 4L60E transmission and thats all... im in a bit of a pickle since i blew up my camaro and then my daily driver caprices transmission. it sucks
  7. it was my pleasure, it was fun hanging out with you guys. did you end up taking the tour of those NHRA shops or not?
  8. I am not sure.. I will let either Jon or somebody else address that one haha. no you havent met me before.. i just randomly saw his car and came up and talked to him, he told me to put on a t shirt and be part of his team, so i did.
  9. just put a diesel turbo on it. 1 turbo > 2 turbos
  10. I was there for all 4 races. It was pretty crazy. Jon represented the Z cars with class, and fought really hard on each run. In the end he ended up breaking the half shaft. It was definitely a great experience and it was awesome hanging out with Jon and the other guys who were there. First race was a crazy lady with a "stock" (408 stroker, worked heads, cam, stall) LS1 T/A, the second race was a CRX Honda that ran hardcore, third race was a 6.0 stock GTO. Last race was the husband of previously mentioned crazy lady, had a mid 70s Nova that was backhalved and a bracket car. We had to fight so hard for everything. I think he would have made it farther if the u joint wouldnt have broken. Like I said, it was a great time and I enjoyed the company of all who were there.
  11. use the stock complete wiring harness. just get it power and grounds and its fine.
  12. I have an 01 LQ4 motor out of a 2500 HD silverado that had 130k on it for sale.. it has no alt or computer, it has part of a wiring harness though.. id like to get $1200 out of it. it is factory rated at 300 hp and 370 torque i belive. its the same thing as an LS1.. just cast iron, and low compression. the 317 casting heads are a low compression version of the 243 LS6/2 heads also. located in indianapolis indiana.
  13. man, i took my doors appart to look into cutting out the door support (only because im putting a 6 point cage in) and its this huge piece of metal welded to the door. you would have to cut out part of the inside of the door to get to it. i just said screw it and will worry about doing something about it later.
  14. 2 options... nitrous bottle, then you should beat cobras no problem second option is to get a Gen 3/4 motor and start there.
  15. speartech is now world known for their wiring harnesses. if you are going to get a harness get one of theirs, but there is no reason why you shouldnt just use a stock harness, expecialy LS1 harness. later after you get the car running you can go back and remove stuff like egr wires etc if you really want to. im not going to though.
  16. they just look so damn clean. i really like the one with the sportmax wheels on it.. car looks really clean, makes me erase doubts i had about the wheels.
  17. ill bring my car over next... seriously lol mine has sat for the past 2 months and i havent touched it, rear wheel tubs are stopping me.. i dont want to do it.
  18. ill trade someone roofs if they want a sunroof lol its just sheet metal up there, it has no strucutural value at all. thats part of the problem, it was just sheet metal on my car that had a hole cut in it and was somehow suppose to support a 20lb sunroof. well it couldnt, and i need to get another roof now.
  19. im insanely pissed off at our "painless" wiring thats been a pain in the ass and wont let our LT1 swapped malibu wagon run.
  20. i saw someone that put one into a F body.. it was definatly interesting and diffrent those motors can be had for cheap though.. the problem is that mods are expensive, youd have a unique car for sure though !
  21. yes, you just need to change to a camaro/corvette water pump, but they bolt up no problem, the throttle body just gets in the way of the water pump
  22. what have you guys done for wheel tubs once you have backhalved your car? i was looking at summits tubs.. and for 73 bucks for 2 isnt bad, but i think that you could make some fairly easily, anybody have any suggestions?
  23. just put a big cam in it. itll do well over 400rwhp. if you are really serious, trick flow heads are where its at.
