  1. any specific year of tranny? I know of one at a small back road junk yard. The guy probably doesn`t know what it`s worth. If you`re interested, I`ll ckeck it out.
  2. I wouldn`t risk it If you think you will need new exhaust anyway, just cut the pipe off under the pass compartment, bolt up the flanges, and use some expanded pipe and clamps(shouldn`t be more than 10-15 bucks) at the cut to reattach the tailpipe. It should buy you some time, and extend your life expectancy(and possibly save some brain cells)
  3. I assume the problem would only arise if the plane depressurized
  4. To get the most out of your project/hobby, you should do as much as possible yourself.(IMO) In my experience, the most fun of the project is tracking down parts, and trying to get the best deal possible on them. If you pay someone else to do it all, they will just look in a book or call the parts store, with no real concern of cost. The other side is, if they quote you a set price, they are more likely to cut corners and use the "cheapest" parts they can find, regardless of quality. Doing the work youself insures you will get the best price vs quality. Not to mention the personal satisfaction of knowing "you did it yourself" I pride myself on being able to find deals. Most people would be very surprised to know how little I have in my Z, and all the parts to go with it. My guess would be, much less than 1/2 retail.
  5. I suppose if I had too I could clear out an 8'x15' space for her I mean, a guys got to have priorities
  6. In my defense, I should say that one of the cars that I keep in the garage is her MGB. The rest are mine. she would rather have the dismantled cars in the garage and out of the way, than spread all over the yard I am thinning the herd though, so she should be able to park inside by next year
  7. Everyone has to start somewhere. I`m sure none of us here crawled out of our mothers with a timing light in our hand. What bothers me, is the dishonesty of some people. The guy that sold him the car needs a swift kick in the BAG
  8. HEH heh, My garage will easily fit 6 cars at a time with room to spare, but my Wifes been parking outside for 5 years. She`s been complaining for almost the entire 5 too

    WELDERS??

Pawn shops are good places to look for welders. I saw a few today, some millers, and a hobart.
  10. If you work on it at least one day a week, you will be surprised how much you accomplish without getting burned out. So many members have given up or sold their Z`s long before they even got started. There are few suggestions I would like to make, that might make the endeavour a little easier. 1) Keep the Z as a hobby only(not primary transportation) 2)never borrow money or use credit for ANY of your parts (only use cash that you have to spare) 3)never set a deadline for completion(it will cost you alot more money in the end) 4)Always shop around for the best deal possible. (this goes for everything, not just the Z) You will have more extra cash for your hobby. 5) Be realistic about your plans. and last but not least 6) If you`re married, Make sure that your wife has a nice ride too.(she won`t be jealous of yours) I`ve had my 1st Z for 3 years it is finally getting painted. I`ve nearly finished an MGB for my wife, including paint, in about 6 months. she`s so happy about hers being done that she didn`t mind my buying a second Z. I have never borrowed or charged even .01 cent for any of my projects. Because of my bargain hunting, you would be surprised how little I have in both Z`s and the MGB. (probably less than most would have in one car)
  11. A tinted plate cover would help to tone it down a little so it`s not so noticable. That was one of my reasons for eventually deciding against the G-nose. Front plates are also required in Ohio.
  12. Headlights are required to be on a circuit breaker for safety reasons. because of this, if the wiring is shorted the light should go on and off intermittently.
  13. How can people like that sleep at night?
  14. I don`t mind the import guys bashing Z`s. As long as I can bash back. i`m sure the comments made on this site about honda`s wouldn`t make them very happy(not that I care), and if you turned the tables and it was a honda that got dumped on, I`m sure we would have made some pretty harsh comments(I know I would have)
  15. After looking under the hood of the new camaro, I have no interest in ever working on one.
  16. If it`s for a sbc, you might try going to a gm dealer and getting an oil filter extension housing o ring for an 88 k1500 pickup. Gasket and o ring is about 4.00
  17. Congrats. I`m glad that I`ve never needed glasses, and hopefully I never will. It is truely amazing the things they can do now that would have seemed like science fiction a few years ago

    Nuts

MAN!! Some of looked very painful I myself wouldn`t attemt those things on pavement. The extent of my wheelie experience has been in the dirt, and that hurts bad enough
  19. I would like to add that, Some of those 500.00 junkyard engines could easily be from one of the budget rebuild shops. I personally would rather have a crate engine with 0 mi on it, rather than a junk yard engine that could have had the crap run out of it since the first time it was fired up. My opinion anyway. For a high performance application, I would have to go through a jy engine before I would risk putting it in. So for the wear and tear and extra labor vs the cost of a crate with a warrantee, the average guy without the tools or experience might be better with the crate. I personally have the tools and experience so I would build my own. "Different strokes for different folks"
  20. If your shoes have been soaked with brake fluid, you will need to replace them. Otherwise they will "grab" and could possibly disintigrate. Make sure to clean all components thoroughly with brake parts cleaner to remove any residual brake fluid.
  21. Have you adjusted the shoes out with the starwheel? If not, that has to be the problem. The shoes should be adjusted to where there is just a slight drag on the drum. when finished with this, pump the brakes again. this will help to center the shoes. Then readjust them again to a slight drag.
  22. The worst cooling system I`ve ever had to "BURP" was on an MR2. With the radiator in front and the engine in the rear it is very easy to get air pockets.
  23. I don`t get it, what does carburetion vs fuel injection have to do with eye surgery?
  24. That is one of the most honest articles you will ever read in a sport compact mag. what they are basically saying, is that all the flashy, over the top ground effect and spoilers, kills arodynamics. and that the oversized wheels raise the gear ratio too much, and will hurt acceleration The ricer croud all need to follow this tech article to the letter, and piece by piece dismantle their cars
  25. check out the civic in his other auctions, it`s just as bad (but in a different way) also look at his location. He is from miss, and tenn. Now that`s one heck of a mix (almost as bad as me)
