  1. Watched the premier of the new TV show Scorpion, spotted a Z in that one at 03:47. Watched again last night [2nd episode], while there was no Z to be seen we did spot a 280z in the preview for next week. Appears to be a series II 240z, butterscotch interior and brown exterior. Actors stops the car, closes the door and it sounds just as tinny & hollow as my 73. Looks like it has 280z wheel covers on it...
  2. Finish: interim will be plastidip, while I assemble all the needed body panels & $$ for the bodywork & paint. Will also allow it to look a bit less raggedy while I'm driving her around town!
  3. Finally finished the 3x carb rebuild [pic showing them installed below] and am working on tuning them. Tom Bork came over to the shop last week [Doc B racing, owner of HLS30xxx8] to help as carb tuning is not my thing...]. Swapped some jets, turned some screws, etc. Runs now and idles but needs a bit more and we still have to sync the carbs. Took it around the block between 'tunes' and it feels like the reaction disc has fallen down to the bottom of the booster so that needs to be fixed. Also found the front tires to be dry rotted and having difficulty finding 215-60-14 replacements to fit the old 14x7.5 Panasports [in pic below]. Rear struts seem to be weak and #1 cylinder rings may be on their way out. Much to do... Snapped bottom bolts on both front fenders as well as a couple under the hood trying to get them loose = more fun drilling & retapping those holes. Need to add that to my 'to do' list. So, I'm now thinking about purchasing a set of 16" wheels for simplicity of [both current & future] tire replacement. Looking for suggestions; desire something to resemble old school JDM with a nice lip on it, pushed out to the fender lips. Likely not go with coilovers but install new lowering springs & struts next year. Leaning toward black, dark to medium gray or silver colors for the wheels. Wheel ideas?
  4. Andy, which Sparco model did you purchase? Do they allow you to use a sub belt [5th/6th point harness]?
  5. I have a dome light, pm me if Daniel doesn't have it.
  6. Pulled the carbs a few weeks ago, found a broken cap screw [holds in a nozzle], had that machined. Will order rebuild kits & parts needed for rebuild. Pulled the valve cover yesterday to see what cam it may have. Found an excessively worn timing chain guide so who knows what else. Plan to get her running soon as the carbs are done & enjoy the rest of the season [before upstate NY winter sets in].
  7. I'm running the stock LS1 tensioner, 40k miles on the eng/trans, 20k miles of that in my Z, many of those 20k miles on the track [Watkins Glen, Daytona, Mid-Ohio & New Hampshire].
  8. It is definitely a porker. Seems like they've taken the same approach that McDonnell-Douglas did with the Phantom Corsair in that there is no amount of drag that the right amount of horsepower can't overcome [at least that's the way I think the saying goes...]! Or in this case, amount of tonnage. I'll take a lightweight any day.
  9. I have one as well, both body & hatch side, replated & pretty if Daniel doesn't have what you're looking for [which I'm sure he does!].
  10. I have one, what year is your Z? email me; palermodavid13@gmail.com
  11. Epic build, can't believe I haven't seen it before. Subscribed and anxiously awaiting completion and videos!
  12. The only issue with mine was the right side, we had to modify it slightly pointing it more toward the transmission. Left side fit fine and no issues with the O2 sensor. I do not, however, have the merge collectors as you do. Blake is pretty active on Facebook, which may be the best way to contact him, although I'd hope he'd simply answer his phone...
  13. In addition to what year, what color for the door panel?
  14. Spent some time Friday at the shop, intent as to bleed both clutch & brakes. Neither accomplished, aargh! Couldn't get a pedal, fluid to push or anything for that matter. So, back this week, replace both masters & clutch slave and try again. I at least got the [temp] hatch installed, drained the fuel tank [wasn't too varnish-y], replaced the glovebox lock, installed the battery, found a break in the main power wire in the harness [actually Clive, Evil Z, did] and discovered the return spring action for the ignition assembly is bad so pulled that and will replace with one from my stash. Also pulled all 4 wheels [like how light the Panasports are!] and have decent pads & shoes all around. In addition to getting the brakes & clutch working I'll put a few gallons in the tank, replace the dried rubber lines in the engine bay so she's ready to fire. Everything takes longer that it does and costs more than you estimated...
  15. As requested...and yes, great downforce to keep the tail planted at the track. Yes, I've tested it at a few tracks: Watkins Glen, New Hampshire International, Mid-Ohio, Nelson Ledges & Daytona
  16. Like this one on my z? Purchased it from Brian, member here. http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/dt46936/pd2118882/Z.C.C._ZG_R_REAR_SPOILER_
  17. I must have misunderstood Tony D. on this. I'll post a pic of the bracket in mine after I'm at the shop next to confirm. Thanks Alan for the archive picture!
  18. Funny thing, everything always takes longer than it does. Anyway, went to Jimmy Z's shop today; 2 goals, nut & bolt his track car and do some work on the Fairlady. Track car took most of the time but my son Alan was along to help which proved a good decision to ask him along. Fairlady update for today: this week I had to replace pop rivets on all 3 bottom mounting brackets on the mesh grill. Pretty simple except, the old rivets had nearly pulled themselves though so straighten grill, source backing washers then pop rivet. Alan installed the reworked grill, reinstalled the mirrors and loosen the lug nuts [luckily found the lug lock under the ashtray!] as well as helping me to replace the hatch [temporary one from a donor 78 280z with significantly less rust & holes than what she came wearing-see pics below]. Had planned to attempt bleeding the brakes & clutch but ran out of time. Hatch: sooooo rusty that the hatch lock fell into the hatch cavity. I've seen bad rust before but this the worst hatch my eyes have spied [last 2 images]. Got her on the lift to more closely check the chassis, appears pretty solid. Upgraded front & rear sway bars. Measured the Panasports, 7.5x14". I like the deep dish so think they're keepers, nice offset to boot. Discovered the front turn signal units are the dual bulb, pretty excited about that. Pictures; chassis stuff [laid on my back and snapped from rear to front as well as a panoramic, more later as she progresses.
  19. "Jade" update. Officially now owned by our kids, Alan [nearly 19] and Emma [close to 17 and has yet to drive it-she seems to not be so interested in driving, yet...]. Alan and I spent a few hours last weekend before a large local car show, wash & wax and some interior detailing and working toward the carpet installation. "Jade" looks, runs and sounds great and is a wonderful cruiser. He's working on buying his sisters share out but that doesn't seem to be progressing as he'd like. Plans are to install a stereo and believe he'll build the speaker box to sit on the rear shelf forward of the rear struts. Not much else to report other than now "enjoying the ride". Me, onto the new project, a 1972 Fairlady Z-L, thread here.
  20. Me on top of the car carrier giving some 'direction' to the transport driver as he cautiously rolls the Fairlady off its perch [Look at the 2nd pic in post 1 as a reference where it was carried]. sHeeze, I look like I'm experiencing some kind of pain...
  21. Tony, as always thanks for your willingness to help and the deep resources you possess! Joe, one day while "stripping" one of my many parts cars I pulled out the body grinder and began cutting. Ann Marie [my beloved wife since 1990] asks, what the heck are you doing? Well, I was removing the roof skin and told her "cutting off the roof, because someday someone will need it!" Maybe me now... And for those who don't know about the green Z [officially named "Jade" by my daughter Emma] here is the thread.
