  1. Doh! Sorry about that, the my hangover hasn't left yet. If I had Austin's car (which would be a dream come true) I might black out the chrome trim around the windows, and change to some fender mirrors to finish out the "JDM look".
  2. I really like all the work you've done so far. I was about to say the same thing as Austin about the wheels though...the reason for flares are to fit wider wheels. Everything else is pretty badass. Also, the cardomain song I'm not really into, but you weren't asking about that. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/385137 Here's my ride:
  3. For Ron and Bo, When you go into overrun fuel cut mode, how does the stepper motor handle it? My DB gage goes to 22.4, and I was curious if the analog needle goes past 18 AFR or not. With my Autometer EGT, I bought the wrong one (1600F instead of 1800F) and after pegging it a few times, it went T.U.
  4. I found out that these come from 80-87 AMC Eagle 4WD 4cyl: http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/vlsd.htm I wonder if we can buy the whole new shaft and just use the 87-7801-0 piece, or else find one from the junkyard to fit the pathfinder axles?
  5. Oops! My mistake...sorry guys. I guess I fell into the trap in Scott's siggy - "Assumption is the mother of all F..ups. "
  6. You guys are talking about a shortened shifter, right? A true short-throw shifter raises the pivot point (like the ones MSA sells): Wouldn't it be easier to cut a 1-2" section out then weld the two pieces back together? No die cutting needed. The first thing I do after I buy a Z is shorten the shifter
  7. My old setup with the OEM EFI, just after adding the intercooler and shaved N42 intake: Last summer after the Wolf EMS was installed: Where I am now
  8. Cool! Now the Wolf seems to be the most popular aftermarket EMS' at Northwestz.org !! I'm still the only one (besides BRAAP and Ron) that has a V500 (v1 / v2) I still have a lot to learn though... :-
  9. Well, I found out last night that the Pathfinder axles will NOT work. The re-splining shop in Portland (Dutchman) at first said there would be enough material in the 31mm dia, 30 spline Pathy axles to respline them to a 30mm, 29 spline. My friend Bryan said that when he called them back, they said they needed to make him new Cro-Moly axles (which are even beefier than the 31mm ones) but it will cost him $750 to get them "out of Jail" I guess our ony hope now is to somehow find those EMPI 87-7801-0 All said and done, this LSD ends up costing about $1500+ to purchase and install
  10. I watch a lot of History channel. Sometimes their experts contradict each other in the same program The experiment that proved relativity was that you could measure the position of the stars shift during an eclipse, since the space bends around the Sun. I think you should be able to see a star that should be hidden behind the edge of the sun during an eclipse. Time does "slow down" depending on gravity. Modern GPS satellites have to take this into account. Their clocks run ever so slightly slower since they are in orbit, compared to the surface of the Earth. I think the reason years seem to go by faster is because every year that passes is a smaller percentage of your total life. In grade school, a summer seemed to last forever. Einstein said when you're in physical pain, times seems to slow down, but if you're with a beautiful girl, it goes by quickly. Another curious thing is that you could never reach the speed of light, since as you approach the speed of light, your apparent mass increases. Since you're heavier, you'll have to apply more power to approach it, which will again make you heavier. It would take an infinite amount power, so you can never reach it. One of the last things Einstein was working on is how the mind can have an effect on random events...effecting the physical world through thoughts.
  11. Hi Worldson, I was thinking about the same thing recently. Anyway, here is how I look at it...In 1st or second gear, the reason there is not much load on the clutch is that with the "shorter" gears, it is like running a longer "breaker-bar". Using the taller 4-5th gear, it is nearly 1:1 (or lower) thus, using a shorter arm that could slip more... To say it another way, the reason the clutch "slips out" is because you're applying the same torque to a shorter "distance-arm" so you'll get more slippage. Hope this made sense... ps: The same thing went down with the anime "Wangan Midnight" (episode 18, 19? [thanks RagingPanda ]) http://wanganmidnightanime.blogspot.com/2009/01/wangan-midnight-18.html
  12. I smell a GROUP Buy!! (and a BBQ) Seriously though, if we can get the same ones...we may be able to get the "prision discount", hehe! (j/k) http://www.beansmeats.com/OnLine%20Store.htm You know, it is "illegal" to add Ketchup to 'dogs in some states
  13. Cool! Hey Gabe, I have the exact same model, and I really like it! I've even used it with Aluminum wire, to fill the holes when I shaved my N42 Intake manifold. I still need to make a cart for it...I'm still using an Alpenrose dairy milk crate for the stand.
  14. Hi Joel, Yes, we need to respline the (larger diameter) Pathfinder axle to fit the 280ZX tripod bearing. That would be awesome if you could provide the P/N (or which vehicle) for that larger tripod bearing. If it fits, the mod should be a piece of cake! (no resplining needed). I would think a couple of those larger bearings would be cheaper (and possibly stronger) than resplining. I'm assuming that the axles / splines are case-hardened (or maybe nitride treated). I'm not sure if repsplining shops treat them again as standard procedure... You guys Rock!! (Sorry if I missed something obvious) Thanks, -hughdogz
  15. Wow...I never considered that fact. I can see what you mean, there could be a clearance issue for S30's (sorry for the poor quality pics of my nasty 260Z R180): The issue isn't as concerning on the S130 rear-trailing arm setup: Sheesh! I don't even know what to say now.
  16. Just like the title says...my good friend Bryan is almost finished with the project (sorry he's not on hybridz much at all). I'm thinking of doing the same thing for my 260z. Hope this may help others that have a similar idea. Although the project is not 100% complete, we are 99.9% sure this will work... First of all, you need a set of 1990 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 front axles. There numerous aftermarket sources, but Bryan found a company called EMPI that offered the largest diameter axle: Here are the main components: The R200 diff from an '83 ZX (with the Nismo CLSD installed), and the 5-bolt companion flanges that came with the kit (note there are right and left hand sides that differ in length). The top CV axle is from a 280ZX. The lower CV axle is from the Pathy (note it has the 5-bolt CV cup). The center assembly is the hybrid CV setup: From another angle: The length of the hybrid axle has to roughly match the ZXT CV: Step 1) take the Pathy axle apart to use the inner portion of the axle like so: "Big hammer" is needed because of the internal snap-ring / retaining clip: Step 2) take apart the outboard side of the Z CV: However, notice there are some retaining "tabs" that need to be removed before you can remove the bearing sub-assembly from the ZXT shaft: Be careful, this was just a practice one...you may need some help (or just hold off) if you've had a few beers already, but you get the idea . Here is the disassembled ZXT CV: Both sides so far: Step 3: Take the Pathfinder axle to a resplining shop to be resplined for the 280ZXT bearing assembly. Alternately, you could get the ZXT bearing assembly resplined to match to the Pathy axle (Bryan is opting for the former). Hope this helped Guys... Later, -hughdogz ps: I believe that for an S30 setup, you can use the piece off the hub to adapt it to the S130 / Z31 CV.
  17. Photoshop mod!! Haha...that's awesome. "It's all for decoration...that's it and that's all, it's all for decoration..." -'lil Sis
  18. My cardomain is lame compared to my hybridz project page, but here it is anyway: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/385137 I could use a few more Z-friends too...hit me up and I'll reciprocate!!
  19. From what I've seen, you can make S30 rear spoilers fit an S130, but that's probably about it...
  20. SWEET! Thanks for the write-up Austin. I was thinking of doing something similar for my S130 and this gave me a bunch more options.
  21. That would be really cool to get a 10 HP gain. My manifold is already ceramic coated I'm going to either ceramic coat my DP or just wrap it all the way to the muffler. The link didn't work for me. Was it for the "new" copper impregnated stuff? I wrapped one of my turbo manifolds in it, but I haven't had a chance to test it out. I used a whole can of the spray paint coating, the wrap really soaks it up. Here is a kit on ebay for two 2"x50' rolls, snap ties and a can of paint for ~$115 bucks: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250045131178&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=250045091420&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m184&_trkparms=algo%3DDR%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3DISS%252BUCI%252BSI%26otn%3D4 I might have to buy it if I can ever get my exhaust finished
