Hey guys, Im putting back my interior back together but all the interior plastic rivets are around a buck each everywhere I look. I've searched and searched and searched and can't find them cheaper anywhere, and couldn't find people using an alternative. Does anyone know of any cheaper plastic rivets that will do the job? I'm 16 years old, on a tight budget and can't justify spending over a buck on a piece of plastic that costs a couple cents. Thanks in advance, -Armand

Do you have a pic of the car from a distance with those wheels? Im really interested to see how they look on the car as a whole.
-
Thanks guys, it was carpet padding I was looking for. bjhines, ya I just found out the weight so there's no WAY I'm adding that much weight to the car. So I guess fatmat should be enough as is. I think once I replace the horrible weatherstripping and plug up some of the holes in the floor it would be as quiet as I want it to be.

Hey everyone, I've recently installed fatmat all throughout my interior, but before I put everything back together, I would like to install some additional insulation on the floors, trunk, transmission tunnel, firewall, and doors. Just something that would take the vibrations out and just make everything a bit quieter. What I'm looking for is a thick, grey, and soft type of material. It's about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch thick, and its just very dense. I've seen it before in cars but I have no idea what its called. None of the major shops online or the local auto stores carry it, and I have no idea where else to look. If anyone can tell me what this material is called, or if you know something similiar to what I'm looking for, that would be greatly appreciated. -Armand

Very nice! You don't see that color on a ZX every day. -
There are only a handful of sports cars on the market right now that get my approval. I just cant stand these overweight sports cars with millions of features. Coming from a 16 year old that goes to a high school where there are kids with 2007 BMW's, Audi's, even Mercedes, I just cant stand the new "sports" cars. Sure my tiny 240z isn't as comfy as these new cars but its way more fun to drive, cheaper, gets more attention than any beemer out there(sorta hate how it does), and I can kill the sports cars the kids at my school drive with me behind the wheel. I don't want to sound like im bragging but these dumba$$ kids have these 300+hp sports cars and have no idea how to drive and use the car. But I must admit that the amount of engineering these new sports cars get are quite impressive, even though most of it is unnecessary. I've driven one of my classmates 2007 335ci(see what i mean) and it is amazing how comfortable the drive is yet when you take a corner quick and floor it after the apex it just takes it and asks for more. But ya...my datsun is better.

Sounds like fun!

Congrats. I just hope you didn't get a lemon. There are some really problematic vw's out there made before 2000. :knock on wood: All VW cars produced before the year 2000 were assembled in Mexico. My brother had a 97 Passat, 1.8t. Nothing but problem after problem.

Wow! Looks like it was worth all the effort for those kind of results.

Just talk to the apt manager, that's it. If you call up the cops and say that there are some punks smoking weed in the apartment below me they could care less. Its not like you go to jail for having weed, you just get a small fine. They have better things to do than deal with some a-holes smoking pot. I'm sure they get calls like that left and right.

I have no idea about the event, but I've driven my friends Cobalt SS and I'll tell you now I would never want to drive that thing on a track.
-
Just talk to them. Most probably they will be very laid back people. LOL Tell them your situation and ask them to do something about it. Either go outside the building and do it, or make them do it in the house, close the window, and turn on the fan or something like that. Also find out if its for medicinal purposes. I don't know how the cops are in the Bay Area, but I doubt they would do much since marijuana is used left and right in the Bay Area. If they were growing it it would be a completely different story. By the way, if they bake brownies instead of smoking it, it will make your problem even worse.

..definitely sexy!

Sweet! My car has three of those, and one has minor surface rust. I'm almost as happy as the time when I found out my ash tray was worth more than a 100 bucks! LOL

LOL How in the hell did that happen?

.......woah.....

Pop, I understand what your saying. But I want to make something clear, I am definitely not going to be driving more aggresively just because I have a roll bar/fire extinguisher/harness's. That's just DUMB. Second of all, I don't drive fast in the streets. I never speed, and I never do anything with cars around. Here and there I will take some freeway exits a bit fast or some turns here and there, but when I do, I make sure as hell that there is no cars around me. When I do 'spirited' driving its always by myself and definitely with no passenger. That's just plain stupid and irresponsible. I know Im going to be stupid, Im young. Yes its probably even worse when I say this and I still do the things, but I truly try to be as safe as possible. The people you need to be worrying about is not me, its the stupid kids my age that only drive on the streets, and have no clue about how to control a car going 60-70mph on the 35mph streets. I always hear stories in my school of my classmates going 60mph on very busy streets which are cop-infested. When I do hear these stories I feel like slapping them for their stupidity. My stupid classmates always come up to me and ask me, "ohh dude teach me how to drift, you know everything about cars." They actually tell me that they think the drifiting in Tokyo Drift the movie is sick and they want to be able to do that. Whats even worse is they actually want me to go in their car, and go into residential streets where there aren't cars, and teach them. They have no idea how hard drifting is or the insane amounts of control you need to have in order to do it. And they just try it by themselves without reading any books are doing any research! They think you just go into a turn and turn the wheel and floor it. THOSE are the kids we all need to be worried about. I think we can all agree that Im trying to handle this situation as maturly as possible and with as much acknowledgement of my surroundings. Pop, Im not directing any of this to you, nor am I saying what you said is directed towards me.

Thats the main reason I'm so concerned about safety. Yes im concerned about accidents with other cars, but the majority of the concern is with my canyon driving. I do realize that there is no room for mistakes in the canyons and the results can be fatal in a 240z. My brother has crashed three times into a cliff in his old VW Passat, and one of his friends went off a cliff and rolled over about 5 times in his 03 Mini Cooper S. He came out with just scratches, thankfully the Mini is a strong car structually. I learn off their mistakes. I'll definitely be looking into autox's and Im going to be taking the next driving course at buttonwillow. I don't think I could stop canyon driving though. I do put a lot of analysis onto canyon driving with the lines I take and how fast to go on certain turns, and Im never pushing the limits of the car when I do drive there. Im learning off of our spare car, a 1991 Buick Park Avenue. Its about 11 seconds 0-60 and fwd so its relatively safe. Once in a while I'll take my bro's 03 Cooper S or my moms old benz. Its amazing how well you can make an old boat of a buick with very shot shocks handle when you really get to learn the car. Thanks for the tips everyone. This is turning into quite a thread. Feel free to add, lets make this sticky material.

Hah!I quickly figured that out mopar. Im actually contemplating on just fixing anything that doesn't work, drive it for a couple months and sell it. I just don't trust myself with this thing. I was going to get a used rx-8 but i picked the datsun instead. Im thinking of just getting the rx-8 again. It would be really nice to have a daily driver w/ a stereo and a/c.

2126, I will definitely add a small fire extinguisher to the passenger floor. Thanks for reminding of that! Interesting stuff Tony D. I'll try and find the right material to pack behind my door panels. After all they are only a thin piece of cardboard and then just a bunch of metal. Whats even scarier is its only a couple inches away from my arm, but according to your info its a good thing, so one less thing off my mind. Mopar, I totally feel you man. If I get a ticket my dad would totally whoop my a$$! Im lucky enough to have him paying for my insurance. I've already been pulled over once and I was VERY lucky that the cop let me off with a warning. One word of advice, never drive with a broken speedometer, you'd be surprised how fast you think your going. Thanks for the help everyone!

Amazing work there! I'm sure your son would have been very proud.
