  1. DAMN I didn't know this! Whythe hek doesn't energy suspension mention it.
  2. Well what springs are you running now?
  3. Energy suspension is pretty much the industry standard. The only other company that I know of that sells polyurethane bushings is MSA, and it's overpriced. Everyone on this board pretty much uses energy suspension.
  4. This sorta happened to me in my Z. I'm driving down the street at night through a construction zone, and I see a manhole cover OPEN in my lane. There is a car behind me, a car left of me, and cones on the right of me with heavy machinery behind them. I tried to veer around it within my lane but the wheel fell through and I felt the biggest bump of my life. I'm cruising at 10mph with my hazards till I get out of the construction zone and WHILE IM BRAKING TO STOP my wheel falls right off and crushes my fender. Amazingly the OEM DUST SHIELD held up the entire car and the rotor or any other suspension piece didn't have a scratch! My axle stubs were fine, my wheel had a little bit of metal taken off behind the lug nut holes, and besides the fender everything was fine. I thought about sue'ing the city but it would be just cheaper to take it to my buddies body shop.
  5. One night coming home I'm driving my Z that had a newly painted hood/driver's side fender. While passing through the end of an intersection I immediately hear a thump on my side of the car and look and there is three kids on the corner. I immediately bust a b!tch and I'm insanely pissed off since I picked it up from the body shop the day before. When I pulled up in the parking lot I see them drop the carton they had and run. I managed to get two of them stuck in a corner. (i'm 17 and do lots of cardio) I got both of them to walk back to the scene with me, I took all the eggs they had and smashed it on top of their heads. I didn't need to call the cops, doing that satisfied my nerves as much as they possibly can. Greatest feeling in the world. The egg landed on my quarter panel and it was a 10-min drive home so I managed to clean it all off before it did any real harm. Edit: Great thread btw.
  6. Looks good. You can bend and break off those side tabs next to the mounting screws. It'll clean up the look a bit.
  7. We should all just drive all our Z cars off a cliff and attach chairs to our r/c cars instead..
  8. With just my brother, a borrowed baseball bat, and a $12 heat gun from Pep Boys we rolled all 4 of my fenders in under half an hour with no paint cracking.
  9. Cool stuff! I have the MSA box in the rear with the Infinity Kappa 3-way 6x9's w/ Alpine type R 5 1/4's in the doors powered by a Alpine f-250 amp w/ alpine head unit. I'm planning on swapping to Infinity Kappa 6 1/4's in the doors w/ tweeters that have crossovers, and putting a Kenwood 150 amp amplified box with a 6-1/2" sub and a 6-1/2" radiance speaker in my tire well. I also have fatmat and jute throughout the interior. I really like my music. Now I know where to mount my tweeters. Anyone have experience or know anyone who has tried this Kenwood amplified box setup? http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=51000&i=113KSCSW1&tp=114
  10. I have an L28 with a 5-speed in my 71 240z and I had to trim the tranny tunnel as well as cut my center console, but only where 5th gear shifts into.
  11. Remember to not "mushroom" the ends of the spindle pin. Use a metal pin/chisel that is a smaller diameter than the end of the pin and hit that with a hammer to get it out.
  12. I got the whole thing for 5000. Expensive for a Z but I think it was worth it because my knowledge on body work is O K, and to have a body shop do all the body work on the car will be lots of $$$. It's a January 71 so it's a Series 1, and the motor is rebuilt with only 25,000 miles as well. EDIT: The 918 orange is not the original color of the car, but when the car was painted it was completely stripped of everything to bare metal, minor rust repaired, and painted inside and out. I've also recently POR-15'd the suspension, fender wheels, and soon to be floors. Oh and I'm turning 18 in 2 months, this thread is quite old.
  13. N3RB, excellent idea! That'll get rid of some minor vibrations in the rear panels. Thanks for the compliments everyone. Over the 1.5 years I spent looking for the perfect 240z, I found one with almost all of the body work re-done and perfect, zero rust, and I really mean this! The perfect thing was the brakes/suspension/interior was in need of an overhaul so it was just what I wanted. It also had over 220,000 miles on it and got it for a pretty good deal and didn't care too much because it was so well maintained. It's also got a clean (chromed valve cover) L28 w/ SU's, MSD 6A Ignition, mild cam, and 2.5" exhaust. My car was also on the cover of Road & Track Magazine in 1991. I can't find the original cover, but this was the picture used on the cover back in '91.
  14. I hope he warmed that thing up before revving it like that. You are right sir! I saw that Z at a local car show we have every sunday about 5 minutes away from my house about 6 months ago. It had a 3.5L maxima engine mounted in the trunk with that thing in the middle that lifted it off the ground and allowed the car to swivel. When I get my Z back up and running and start going to those meet-ups I'll keep an eye out, when I see him there I'll be sure to take loads of pictures.
  15. I don't know about the 280z but my 240z's tail light panel is metal. I don't know about chroming it. No one around here really does it and it's pretty hard to picture a completely chrome tail light panel looking good. Pictures would be necessary. Either way you should build your car the way YOU want it to be....just don't put dragon stickers on the side.
  16. What the hek, my 71 240z fills up till 12 gallons??? It definitely looks like an original tank, and my fuel gauge shows full with 12 gallons in it.
  17. Just to clarify, I got the S13WB caliper by mistake but the S12W pads fit perfectly as well as alignment with the rotor. It also clears my 16x8 Rota RB's +04 easily with about an inch clearance. I don't understand why everyone uses the S12W caliper instead of the S13WB caliper? It's newer and has slightly bigger pistons..?
  18. Usually I hate smoked lights. I think it destroys the look of any car, but wow man you really pulled it off. It would look super nice if it had the original chrome around the tail lights and in the middle of them.

    old dynamat

It probably is not the dynomat but the original insulation. When I stripped my interior to put my fatmat(cheaper version of dynomat), I chipped away all the stock insulation. But that stock insulation was filled with bubbles everywhere. So it might be that?
  20. I would go get another dyno if I were you. There are people running 3.0+ liter strokers not making that much power at the wheels.
  21. Extremely overpriced for the things you get. Someone should make a cheaper kit.
