  1. Yea, I actually like the gold engine bay. Looks like a pretty good find even with the miss-match engine. Good luck with it
  2. Wow, glad to hear youre both ok. Good luck with insurance -- when I got mine insured, i found an insurer that would do an agreed value policy to try and avoid any shady situations
  3. What NewZed said, re-read my post Turbo, w/ turbo dizzy and turbo ecu, stock base timing should be at 24*
  4. Its definitely in the FSM, because i just did this myself , check page MA-46 (MA Maintenance). FSM for '83 calls for 24* +/- 3 for the L28ET (the non-turbo setting is 8*, perhaps thats the confusion). The timing mark is on the pulley, but often its very faint due to age. Some suggest finding it with the car off and putting either chaulk or white-out on the mark to make it easier.
  5. 81 or 82/83 setup? 81, you adjust the CAS which is down by the crank pulley. 82/83, the CAS is in the Dizzy, and you adjust it by turning the dizzy. Check the FSM for procedure and factory settings: http://www.xenons130.com/reference.html

  10. From what Ive seen online and in the 83 FSM (page EF & EC 61,62), the L28 wheel also has a second row of 6 slots 60* apart in addition to the 360 1* slots on the outside. The difference being on the Z31 wheel, one of those interior slots is larger than the others, wherein on the L28 wheel, the 6 interior slots are all identical sized. Both rows of slots are used by the L28ET ECU according to the FSM.
  11. 81 has the CAS on the crank pulley, 82/83 has the CAS in the dizzy, so which dizzy to use will depend on which harness/ecu you're using I believe. If you do end up not using the 82-83 turbo dizzy, shoot me a PM with a pic or two and what you would like for it, I might be interested.
  12. Unfortunately in the old FAQ thread that had the comparison pics of the 2 wheels, the pics no longer load, so I havent seen the actual difference, but Im wondering if the wheels are close enough that the car starts, idles and cruises just fine, but at WOT the L28ET ECU cant interpret the signal from the Z31 wheel and doesnt know whats going on. It makes since in my head, but looking for confirmation either way from the Hybridz.org knowledge pool before I start throwing parts at it...especially since finding a l28et wheel isnt exactly easy...
  13. Ive seen where people swap out the Z31 dizzy internals into a L28 dizzy when doing a Z31 ECU/MAF swap, but is the Z31 CAS and Wheel ok to use with the L28ET ECU/AFM setup? Im trying to track down an issue with the car (73 w/ L28ET) sputtering and going extremely lean under boost/load, and another thread has lead me to go through the ignition. Timing is set at 24* per the 83 FSM, and its dead solid at 2K, 3K and 4K rpm. But I cant find through the search whether or not the L28ET ECU can in fact use the Z31 CAS/Wheel(which the PO says he rebuilt the dizzy with), just that they can be swapped into a L28 dizzy and is needed when doing the Z31 ECU swap. Im wondering if this might be my problem, or if they are in fact compatible to look elsewhere.
  14. Reset the timing to 24* per the '83 FSM; timing was rock solid at 2000, 3000, 4000 and 4500, didnt move around at all. I did figure out the car has a ZX dizzy, but with Z31 internals including a Z31 CAS and Wheel. Ive seen where people swap out the Z31 dizzy internals into a L28 dizzy when doing a Z31 ECU/MAF swap, but is the Z31 CAS and Wheel ok to use with the L28ET ECU/AFM setup?
  15. Should the car still run with it unplugged though? Mine just dies Just bought a timing light yesterday so I can check this. Previously just borrowed a buddy's but only set base timing. I still have the stock turbo/wastegate, and boost gauge is dead on at 7psi at WOT, so not a lot options left. I'll check my timing curve and see whats what. Thanks for the headsup, hopefully rayaapp can follow up when he gets the issue sorted if he beats me to the fix
  16. Hey 240z7273, Just following up to see if you ever got this sorted and if so what was your cause. Thanks
  17. Means a lot coming from the owner of one of the nicest Z's I've ever seen. Thanks!
