I still can't stand stand when people say, [and it happens ALL the time]: Them: "Hey is that a Z car?" Me: "Yep. It's a 280Z." Them: "I have/had a car just like yours" Me: "Is it a 280Z or 280ZX?" Them: "Yeah its a 280ZX" Me [To myself]: FFFFUUUU

My signature on my local car forum is "Nissan 300ZX Turbo 5 Speed [Mustache-tastic]" The trailing arms suspension, added amenities, [Chris will be the only one to get this] "I'm just happy to be here" front end, extra EGR crap, etc. are what scare the 'sports car' people away. I own two Zs, a 78 S30 and a 86 Z31. The S30 is a pure driving experience for me: The car tells me whats going on, it's light and nimble, and a blast to drive, but not great for passengers or long trips. I also have a very touchy throttle and a lightweight flywheel which make it difficult for the hilly terrain on campus at the University of Arkansas. The Z31 has leather seats, steering wheel radio controls [LOVE them], T-Tops, a turbo already in it, and a full interior, as well as NO rust. They are both Zs, but are two totally different driving experiences. Sometimes I get tired of the bouncy suspension of my Z31 and want my Rev-happy L28, and sometimes I get tired of the S30 and want to hop in the cushy leather seats and cruise around town with the T-Tops off. The Z turned into a luxury sports car in the 80s, for better or worse, it's all in your point of view

Fantastic use of my tax dollars in a recession :/

Body & Exterior: Vin : HS3013524 They put KYB shocks in it? Why? It's a gorgeous car.
-
Do they really? I heard some members talking about how they prefer the Nissan units because they blow out of the left side as you stated, and the Fel-Pros do not. I put a Fail Pro HG in when I swapped mine out on my F54/P79, but since I am boosting this I am worried about it making a milkshake if it goes.

Turbo motor..without the Turbo Question..
FlatBlack replied to justaddnosplease's topic in Fuel Delivery
Yeah, if it is the turbo EFI than it should not be a problem, I'd just be disappointed with the 7.4:1 SCR Wouldn't a turbo AFM run pretty rich at higher RPM on an N/A motor? [This would be nothing to be worried about, except for performance and fuel economy.] -
I had a couple of extra L28 N/A pans sitting around, I tapped the pan and welded on a bung for about $5. If you'd like me to I can PM you some measurements if you want to try it. $200??

Turbo motor..without the Turbo Question..
FlatBlack replied to justaddnosplease's topic in Fuel Delivery
The ECU will definitely not compensate for the bigger injectors unless the AFM has been messed wth. Did he say what year EFI harness/equiptment was in the car? You might poke around with the search feature, you might be dissapointed with how sorry the EFI is. Stock N/A injectors IIRC are ~ 180cc, turbo injectors are 259cc. If it runs as it sits I wouldn't worry about it much. Pull the spark plugs and see how black they are. A possible temporary solution if the car is running really really really rich and hard to drive would be to pull a vacuum line, which should make it lean out a bit. I don't know how safe that would be though. -
Good to hear. I am incredibly tired of how loud the car is.

Its for the oil feed to the turbo. I have the oil line, and not the bolt. Like this:
-
I need a banjo bolt for the stock T3. I figured I'd ask here, otherwise I am pretty sure I found a website that I can get one on. Thanks - Mat

That's a big truck! You have a decent garage there

I got everything needed for the swap, minus a few little things. When I pulled my head gasket I installed the turbo oil pump that came with it and it works awesome. The turbo swap is going in this week. The turbo looks really good [no vertical shaft play] and the exhaust manifold is really clean and painted, with re-threaded studs and new bolts. I'm using all of what came in the package, except: I upgraded to Mustang Cobra Injectors, I am ditching the 83 ECU and AFM for a 88 Z31 ECU and MAF [for Nistune], and I'm going to run the N/A Valve Cover because this is an N/A motor and I'm no ricer I plan to make some $$ back selling the stuff I don't need Thanks for the heads up!

So I bought this thing, btw - this was quite a while ago. I looked through his previous auctions, and found that he bought the 'kit' from somebody else. He took pictures of his computer screen of the old auction, which is why they looked so crappy. Funny to go back and look at it though

That's kinda sad actually ^ I hate not driving my S30, but then again I can just hop in the Z31 when it's down

why won't my intake manifold come off?
FlatBlack replied to turbojohnny's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
This thread is saying the same thing as the one that I posted. The intake runners are held on by the top and the bottom. Turbo manifold or N/A headers, the bolts are in the same place. Big phil even posted a video of him removing a turbo manifold in that thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/showpost.php?p=1034678&postcount=8 -
Sweet! It is very quiet in the video. Chris suggested that I could see how it sounds and then add a resonator later. I have heard the turbo does quite a bit of muffling. Thanks Dave

My current N/A setup is obnoxiously loud. - Flat Top F54 and P79 - 6-1 Headers to a slip joint to 2.5' exhaust to a 'Ansa type' resonator. It's very raspy and uncomfortably loud at highway speeds. TrumpetRhapsody put a resonator in line behind his turbo and his 'bullet' muffler, and it's much much quieter. I am switching from the Ansa twice pipe to a 3" Injen SES muffler. My new setup will be: T3 to 2.5" MSA DP, to a 2.5"-3" coupler to 3" Stainless Steel exhaust to the Muffler. I don't want to have to weld the exhuast twice, and I'm thinking about putting a resonator inline like TR did. I could get a 3" resonator from Summit, or get a glass pack from a store in town. Any recommendations? It doesn't need to be silent, I just would like to be able to talk to people while they are riding with me.

How much trouble has your Z/ZX gotten you into?
FlatBlack replied to Challenger's topic in Non Tech Board
This is somewhat unfair, they are there to protect the population. While I don't agree with getting a ticket because they thought I was pulling shenanigans simply because I have a loud exhaust, I don't think that they are 'punks' who just want to mess with people. I always cringe when I hear things like that. I got pulled over for the 10th time today. U of A police department. No ticket, just wondering why I was so loud. I can not WAIT to get the turbo swap going, my new exhaust will help immensely methinks. The UAPD guy was pretty cool, he kept complimenting the Zed and before I left said "If you ever think of getting rid of the car give me a holler" Ofiicer: "So, I see you have the racing seatbelts, have you done anything else to make it a race car?" Me: "Um.. I've put some new springs and struts on it because my old ones were old" I assumed they didn't want to hear my modification list haha -

Does this need to be made into a sticky? http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=149609 -
I figured that. How long do tires last for you?

efi 280z into 260z coversion! Need advice please
FlatBlack replied to voltron_boi's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Get a Factory Service Manual, or if you can't find it a Haynes/Chilton's Manual. I have never seen one for an S30 but I assume they will have a wiring diagram in there. I'm having to go through my 78's wiring currently as well - The sub harness that runs from the steering column to the EFI harness is a four wire connector. I forgot what the 'green box' conenctor is atm -
TR's 260z L28 Build Thread
FlatBlack replied to TrumpetRhapsody's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
It sounds wonderful - not bashing your eardrums with a raspy exhaust note. Ours our both getting some quieter pipes. I hope mine ends up as quiet as yours! 91 91 91 91 91!!! -
My Z31 has been eating rear tires. I asked a guy on AZCC what was up because he had the same problem. Apparently the Z31s naturally have negative camber. He suggested new springs. I'm starting my turbo swap on my S30 this week so I've not had time to do much research on the Z31. Grrrr Hybrid takes up all my internet time! Got some new tires on the back wheels today, let see how long they last :/
