Blue foam for fiberglass mold ? what is it
80LS1T replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Fabrication / Welding
I looked on that site but couldn't find it. Do you have a name for the product? I searched google but came up with a tone of different stuff, I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for so that doesn't help either. I am going to use it to make a speaker box. Guy -
Well I have a few projects for the next couple months... 1. slot the rear subframe and install cam bolts so that I can adjust the rear camber and toe. 2. Install nitrous kit(wet). Which will include... 3 pod a-pillar, nitrous pressure guage, fuel pressure gauge, fuel pressure saftey switch, window switch, progressive controller, MSD retard box, blow down kit for bottle, bottle warmer controlled by pressure switch, and a dual purge kit. 3. Rewire the car with a painless kit. I need to get everything on relays and new wiring. I had a small electrical issue with my fan set up and my car over heated, so the old 28 year old wiring is going bye bye!(no damage but it was a long night getting it towed home!). 4. Install 2 10" subs, Amp, and new Deck. This will be my first car sound system, never been a fan of the big boom booms but after riding in a few cars with nice systems I have changed my mind. Nothing too crazy just something to give it a little thump! Thank god for my Grandparents who gave me way too much money for Xmas! LOL

Blue foam for fiberglass mold ? what is it
80LS1T replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Fabrication / Welding
Hey guys, old thread but I need more info on this foam. What size blocks do they sell it in at Home Depot and where in Home Depot do you find it(what department?). Also is this foam like that green flower pot foam, I want to be able to shape it and then cover it with fiberglass and then remove the foam. Thanks! Guy -

It looks like something to advance the optispark(kind of like moving a distributor. That would be my guess, never seen it though... Guy

Who knows there stuff when it comes to nitrous?
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I don't think i will be breaking rear end parts because I will be using a window switch and a progressive controller so that it doesn't hit so hard. Atleast that's what I am hoping! As for the fuel, I will start off with a 75 shot and work my way up. I will be monitoring the AFR's with a wideband to make sure everything is good. Guy -
Man I sure hope you got this problem figured out! I want to see your car painted asap too! LOL Guy

Stock and slow my aZZ! LOL Is your car getting close to being back on the road, Yasin? I'm getting ready to rip my interior out to put a painless harness in! Oh boy what fun! After thats done I'm dropping out the rear subframe to slot it and put cam bolts in so I can get rid of the excessive negative camber in the rear. Once that's done I'm going to be installing a nitrous kit. Those are my projects for the next 4-5 months till the snow melts around here! http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com/Recent_pics.html Guy

J, did you ever put these in your gauges? I just ordered some of the inverted lense LED's for my gauges. When I have the dash out soon to rewire the car I will be installing them. I will post pics of these lenses to show the results. Autometer wants $13 a bulb! That's just crazy! Guy

I have the LT4 hotcam kit in my car. It's an alright cam but I am already looking for something "bigger". Bang for the buck its a nice kit but buy better springs as the ones in the kit are marginal for the HC as it is. If you want a little more power get the HC kit. If you want 400WHP get a nice set of heads and a cam that matches them with some roller rockers. You wont get much for $1000 though... Guy

Who knows there stuff when it comes to nitrous?
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
This is right from the dynotune website... There is no extra FMU(fuel management unit), as far as I know you dont need to increase fuel pressure when the nitrous is activated. The timing has to be retarded by the user, no timing retard module included. I think I figured out what I am going to use for retarding the timing... MSD 8975 Digital Multi-Retard Timing Control. Seems like it will be a little over kill but will be easy to adjust and no little pills to deal with to change the timing when I want to. Guy -
Who knows there stuff when it comes to nitrous?
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well my fuel system is pretty decent. All -6AN supply and return lines, MSD fuel pump(good to 500HP), and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I am still running an OPTISpark but have a MSD 6AL and blaster 2 coil. I am going to switch from TR55 plugs to TR6 plugs(1 step colder). The nitrous kit comes with a WOT switch. I am probably going to run a window switch too so it only engauges betwee 3K and 6K RPMS. What MSD retard box can be controlled from in the car or atleast set up to only retard timing when the nitrous is used? Thanks for the help so far! Guy -
I've done a few things to mine....LOL Guy

It can be done but the 280ZX is wider so you will have to come up with to take up the extra space from having a smaller dash in a wider car. I think some has done it or is in the proccess of doing it... Guy

I am going to be putting a nitrous system in this winter but I want to know as much as I can before I spray for the first time. I am going to be using a "Dynotune" kit(that's the name of the kit). It seems to be very popular over on ls1tech.com. So far this is what I am planning on getting... www.dynotunenitrous.com *LT1 Camaro & Firebird Nitrous System - $379.00 *Nitrous Oxide Remote Bottle Valve - $219.00 NOS angled brand bottle valves, blue handle only! *Nitrous Oxide Purge system Kit - $59.00 -4AN (for use with most street kits) -Automotive Purge Applications *Nitrous Oxide Bottle Warmer Heater 10-15LB Bottles - $99.00 -4AN (for use with most street kits) -Black-Super High Output Heater - $10.00 *Round 2-1/16" Nitrous Switch Center - $149.00 *Time Based Progressive Nitrous Controller - $149.00 *Blow Down kit for Bottles - $29.00 *Fuel Pressure Safety Switch With Chrome Fitting - $39.95 --35 PSI set point for EFI (Adjustable) *Round Digital Nitrous Pressure Gauges - $169.00 -LCD Display with Blue Backlight -White Face -Black Bezel (Round 2-1/16 Gauge) *Round Digital Fuel Pressure Gauges - $169.00 -LCD Display with Blue Backlight -White Face -Black Bezel (Round 2-1/16 Gauge) The one thing I am wondering about is retarding the timing. I am going to spray atleast a 100 HP shot or 150 HP if I can. I know a SBC can can take a 100 shot no problem but my engine is 10.9:1, does this play a factor into how much I can spray. My engine is a completly rebuilt LT1 with stock rods and hyper pistons(I really wish I would have gone forged!) So nitrous guru's enlighten me, what do I need to know and what am I missing on my list if anything? Guy:burnout:

Wow I thought there would be more interest in this hood, guess I'll have to leave my stock hood on.

Incase you haven't seen the thread in the Venders forum, http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?p=832508#post832508 280Zone said he would consider making us the SS hood for our cars if we can get 15 people to buy them! I really like the hood but obviously I can't buy 15 hoods! He said the cost would be right around $500 shipped! That's a killer deal on a fiberglass hood not to mention it looks sweet! So what do you guys think? Do we have 14 other guys interested? Guy

FREE cam sellection software
80LS1T replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Thanks Grumpy! I'm in the market for a new cam...this should help! Guy -
Those are the ones I bought. THEY ARE CRAP... not even close to a real projector and they are very very poorly made. I ended up smashing the glass out and cutting the back off and just using the 7" ring to make my own housings. Don't buy those housings and expect to have anywhere even close to a real projector set up. Guy

If its from 1995 it should be the right PCM. Can you see your port settings now? If this is not right you will get that error message... Guy

Your basically just using Xenon bulbs in a regular halogen housing, kinda defeats the purpose of having HID's. Now you've just got a bright blue light that blinds everyone coming at you. I built a set of Bi-Xenon's projects lights for my car for about a $150ish. I bought FX35 projectors and made a housing for them with fiberglass.(Do a search in the body/paint forum or go to my members page for pics/info). Granted I got my ballist, ignitors and bulbs for free.... Guy

Your port settings are probably wrong or you dont have your ECM deffinition file seleceted. The port settings are under "Options" and then go down to "Comm port setup". To select your ECM file type go to "ECM" and then down to "PCM EE" or "PCM EEB"(EEB is for some LT1 computers, most don't use it though). Guy
