Two* Nissan 350z 03 04 05 Six Speed Transmissions
80LS1T replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Non Tech Board
They break under normal use. Usually they start grinding in 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th. My service write had an 03' 350Z with a single turbo kit putting down 400RWHP/390RWTQ through a new version tranny and he never had a problem with it. Like John said, I think Nissan finally has a handle on the issue. Guy -

As far as I know the parts do not interchage between the old trannys and the newer ones. That's why Nissan doesn't have us repair them, they can't be fixed.(I'm a Nissan Tech) Not to mention that 6 speed tranny is probably one of the most complicated trannys Nissan has every made. The guys that do the training evey say this and they know them the best. They say the biggest problem with rebuilding them is the fact the a lot of the parts can be flipped front to back and still fit just fine but wont actually work correctly. Yeah pretty much every 2003 and a lot of 2004 350Z's will get a tranny at some point. That's how it's been at our dealership anyways. We give our bad ones away too, I personally wouldn't pay a penny for one of those junk trannys much less $175! Guy -
Yeah after some searching I found numbers from 2825 to 2900lbs for a 1980. I guess a 100-150lbs gain isn't too bad for triple the HP/TQ! Guy

Yeah I just wish I knew what it was before when it was completly stock, sure would be interesting to know. Does anyone have this info for a stock 280ZX?

Well a buddy of my is big into go-karting so he has a set of corner weight scales, so I asked him if we could weigh my car today! Here's the basic specs on my car... *1993 Camaro LT1 Engine (alluminum water pump housing with CSR electric water pump, stock alluminum heads and intake) *1993 T56 6 speed transmission(stock flywheel) *R200 with CV's (3.54:1) *Griffin 26"x19" Alluminum Radiator *All stock emssions stuff removed(stuff that came with the L28 engine) *All emissons stuff removed from LT1 *Battery relocated to spare tire area *All A/C components removed(including evaporator core) *Stock seats replaced with Corbeau CR1's and Corbeau brackets *Stock gauges replaced with Autometer gauges *About 35-40lbs of sound deadening on floor, sides and doors of car(peel n' seal) *Rear sway bar removed *Tokico Springs and Struts(lowerd 1.5") *Sport Max 962's 18x7.5" front with 225/40 tires and 18x9.5" rear with 265/25 tires *stock braking system *Autopower 4 point rollbar *T-Tops in hatch of car *Half tank of gas Ok here's the without me in the car.... LF....715 RF....787 LR....775 RR....705 ------------------------ 1490 1492 Front....1502....50.4% Rear.....1480....49.6% Total....2982 I did weigh it with me in the car but I didn't write it down for some reason? The car evened out to almost perfect front to rear though. It got a little heavy on the left side though. I don't road race so I'm not too concerned with perfect side to side / front to back balance. I thought it was pretty cool that my car is pretty much 50/50 front to rear and side to side, not to mention weighted in under 3000! Guy

Z32 sbc 350 swap pics and more to come!
80LS1T replied to Firion_13's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Nice work so far! Deffinetly something you don't see everyday(SBC with a Nissan tranny bolted to it). Just out of curiousity why did you want to keep the Nissan tranny? Guy -
I think it's a 2+2 too! The car would look much better with wheels that filled out fenders. The kits not for me but someone sure did take a lot of time on it! Guy

LT1 wiring info/diagrams for newbies!
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
What are you wanting to hook up from the from the firebirds old harness to the new harness? You will need ignition power to a few wires for the PCM and Battery power to a few wires for the PCM. There are also a few grounds that need to be connected. I don't think there would be much that you would connect to the LT1 harness from the old engine harness? You'll need to connect your ignition feed to your starter. Then there are sensor wires that will need to be connected(oil pressure, water temp, and voltage), you should be able to use the old senders from the other engine on the LT1 so your gauges work(don't remove those wires). You should be able to drive your tach with the LT1 tach out put wire. Your going to have to look at the PCM pin outs and apply power and ground the correct wires for the PCM to work, aka for the engine to run. It's not hard, just time consuming. Guy -
Finally got some decent pics and a couple short videos!

Thanks a lot guys! Man I almost smoked a deer tonight:shock:! I was on my way home from doing some tuning on some local back roads and out jumps 3 deer! It was durning that twilght time of day and it wasn't easy to see very far. Lucky I wasn't going very fast and I was able to brake/swirve for them or I might have hit one of them! I was literally shaking for like 2 minutes after from the thought of hitting one and ruining my car after all that hard work. <-----thats me thanking God that I missed those deer! LOL Guy -
Whats overheating, temp wise? What kind of fan are you running and what kind of fan shroud do you have? This topic has been beaten to death(search), you must seal up the radiator and fan or you will drastically reduce your radiators efficency. Guy

Thanks Mario. The pics don't really show how bright the blue is but it was kind of an overcast day I guess. I have smoked headlight covers. I set them on there but they seem to take away from the good lines of the car. And the smoked covers don't really go to well with the blue. I wouldn't mind seeing some clear ones on it but I'm not going to buy them anytime soon. I should just sell my smoked ones and get some clear ones to see if I like them or not! Guy -
Well you can save your self some money by taking out the headliner before you go in, otherwise he will have to do it. The guy I took my car to does stuff on the side for a cheaper hourly rate for cash. See if the guy you are taking it to will do the same, cash talks! Guy

Here's some pics I took today! Bigger and more pics...

Well I finally got some decent pics and a couple short videos of my car today. I took the video with my digital camera because I had to send my camcorder out for repair(thank god for service plans!). Here's the link to my webpage with roughly 40 pics of my car. They are in smaller versions but you can click on them for a full size picture! Here's a couple videos... *Fly By *In car through the windshield *In car on the speedo(hard to see the numbers though because of a glare on the speedo) Enjoy! Guy

I used those lenses to make my projector bi-xenon headlights. The acutal housing is a total piece of junk. They are not projectors, they just have a lense in the middle that gives it a projector look. There is a reason they are only $30 for a pair of them... I cut mine up and just used the 7" ring to make my headlights. I smashed the glass out and cut the back off of them and then fiberglassed in some projectors from an FX35. There is a thread in this forum from like 3 months ago when I was making them. Putting xenon bulbs in these will scatter light all over the place and it is actually illegal to do so. You will blind oncoming traffic! Guy

Man every time I see one of these LS1 swaps it makes me want to pull the LT1 and get an LS1! Looks great and keep the pics coming!!! Guy

18x9.5 R 18x8.5 F installed...lotsa pic's
80LS1T replied to Bartman's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I think your car is going to push now. I know mine does because I can't do donuts like i could with the 17x7's all the way around! I need a lot more room to do them now! LOL Guy -
I might be down for some but I would have to see them first. I don't want arm rests on mine but I would need the cut out for the window switches and the speakers. Guy

I thought you already had 1" spacers in front from MMS? Guy -
First drive vids are the best no matter how crappy the quality of the video is! It gives the guys who are getting close to that point a lot of hope that maybe someday they will be there! I know it gave me a kick in the butt to get out in the garage and finish my car up! Congrats on the first drive! Guy

I would think a swap like that would be "time and materials". That's how I would do it. I think most shops would do the same. It's hard to put a price on something like that, you just don't know what kind of complications you might run into. What modifications do you want done? Just an engine/tranny swap or build a whole car....gauges, suspension, interiror, paint/body work...? Guy

Bart's car(in that link posted above) is an S30 not an S130, big difference... You wont be able to fit true duals over the rear subframe unless you run really small piping which would kind of defeat the purpose of dual pipes. You can put a Y in after the subframe and run 2 pipes off of that. I did before I went to a V8, it looked pretty good and didnt sound to bad either. Now I just run duals up to the rear subframe and then over the subframe is a single pipe into a straight through Magna Flow muffler. Guy

Basic LT1 PCM tune should I mail order?
80LS1T replied to gvincent's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Yeah that's what I use. I haven't done much tuning yet though. -
I'm sure its possible. You would have to buy a mechanical speedo and then you would have to find the right gear for the sender. The tach has a little switch on the back for 4, 6, and 8 cylinders so that should be pretty easy to hook up. The rest of the gauges come with their own senders so that shouldn't be a problem either. I would do some searching for mechanical speedo hook ups on the L28 and see what you find. I don't konw exactly how you would go about this but I'm sure its been done. Guy

Here's a link(http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com/Gauges.html) to my webpage about installing the Autometer gauges in my main cluster. I am also using Autometer gauges in my 3 center pods. Guy
