  1. Can you just imagine what "THE HULK" would have done to those cars! Nice kill list! Guy
  2. Is that the old G-Tech or the new one? Sure you were having vapor lock......I believe you The competition must be getting better if you have to loose that extra weight Guy
  3. So do you think putting a twin turbo V8 in a Z car is going to be easy? Yeah there's plenty of room for a V8 but with all that extra piping for the turbos, its going to get real crowded real fast. If you going to a straight axle go with one of the common ones. Not one that is going to fit the easiest. Like the Ford 9" or GM 12 bolt. Parts are much cheaper for these than any other straight axle. A member of this site is also in the process of swapping in a Ford 8.8" , he goes by the name "Stony". Guy
  4. Aww your cheating.......you took off your hood! Nice times and way to lay the smack down! 8) Guy
  5. So neither power window works or just one? If it just one your probably looking for a bad switch or a bad motor. If its just one window, I would supply my own power and ground to the motor and see if that works. If it does its either wiring or the switch. There is actually a circuit breaker not a fuse for the PW's. It is located just above the fuse box on the passenger side floor. It is located above the "auxiliary cooling fan motor timer unit" I have the wiring diagram handy but it isnt much help because my scanner doenst pic up the small lines of the wiring too well. I have a Haynes manual that I got from some auto parts store. It does have the info you are looking for. I think I paid about $12 for it? Guy
  6. Well I downloaded a copy of Adobe Photoshop 7.0. I am pretty sure its the full version. Anyways, I have a few basic questions.... 1. How can I change the color of something but still retain the original lines of the car. 2. Is there an easy way to select most of the car to change the color? or do I have to kind of paint it a little at a time? Thanks, Guy
  7. Wow 4" from the firewall. Thats even farther than a "scarb style" mount for a SBC. I guess your car will not be classified as a "corner carver" LOL Oh and one pic is not going to satisfy us! WE WANT MORE! Guy
  8. How far from the firewall is that? It looks like its pretty far away but that may just be the angle of the pic? Looks sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! 8) Is this a drag car or a "street" car? Or is it a mix? Guy
  9. Unless you have an ampmeter you wont know if its charging. You can see if the alternator is putting out any voltage by using a voltmeter at the battery with the car running. This wont tell you though if the alternator is actually putting out any current though. Oh and dont try putting a hand held voltmeter(with a ampmeter function) in line with the battery and the alternator, you will smoke the meter for sure! Most meters can only handle about 20amps. Most cars put out atleast 100amps. If you dont have a meter you can go to Sears and get a meter like this one.... http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&fromAuto=YES&bidsite=CRAFT&pid=03482014000 This meter will measure amps all the way up to 600amps and as low as .1amps. This is a very nice tool for finding draws on batteries too. Guy
  10. The hard part about replacing those seals is not the actual installing of the gasket its getting the glass off the car with out cracking it. I have seen auto glass guys come to my work(dodge dealership....and we dont do windshields because it isnt really cost effective for us) and just from watching them do it, I can see how it would be a PITA for a guy who doesnt know what hes doing. To replace a windshield on say a Durango cost right around $275. Now thats for new glass, supplies, and the labor. Thats not too bad really. Now if you already have the supplies and are reusing the glass, it cant cost too much for a professional to do it for you and then atleast you will know its done right and if it leaks they have to fix it! Thats my $.02! Guy
  11. Thank for the tip RacerX! And thanks for all the other help guys! Guy
  12. Yeah well it just keeps getting pushed back. If I had a place to paint it and the equipment to do it it would be done but I dont have either. I am just waiting on my brother to give me a call to say bring it over to the shop! So far the plan is still a go for painting it this fall/winter. Guy
  13. I have seen this before but not on a Z. Same symtoms as you have. Turned out to be the fuel pump was loosing its prime. So on the highway when it needed more fuel it would loose its prime and then die. Let is sit for a while and it would run again but not very good. If you have a fuel gauge handy hook it up and drive the car around and watch you fuel pressure when this happens. If its dropping off then you either have a clogged fuel filter or a bad pump. Guy
  14. Um its House of Kolor paint. One of the cans says "Urethan Enamel System" I have the silver metalic basecoat, cobalt blue "kandy" tint, and the clear coat, along with the reducers and catalyst. Guy
  15. Yeah but you(Tim) have 8 vehicles insured with them. If they lost you as a customer it would be like loosing 3 normal households! It really makes a difference if you are a good customer. Like when I first bought my truck 4 years ago. I was paying $150ish a month for full coverage. After about 6 months my lower door hinge broke off on the drivers side. So I told them the wind blew the door open and it broke the hinge. So they paid the $260 to get it fixed. But from their stand point they had already took $900 from me so they were still waaaaaaay ahead. They knew it was BS but they also didnt what to piss of a guy paying $150ish a month! LOL Insurance companies are like car sales men.....they can be really nice or they can be real dicks depending on the situation! Guy
  16. I have seen plug wires cause backfiring through the intake. How old are the wires? Guy
  17. What kind of shelf life does auto paint have? I have the paint for my car and its been sitting in my room for over a year. Should I be worried about it? I mean it is all in sealed cans and in a cool/dry environment? Guy
  18. Are they hard lines or rubber? If you are using the old R12 lines you may have a problem keeping the new R134a in the system. R134a lines are "barrier" style hoses. Old R12 molucules(sp?) are larger than the R134a so they cant just go threw the microscopic holes in the hoses, however R134a mulcules are much smaller and can possibley just go right through the old R12 hoses. Now its not going to just go right through the hoses but you may notice your refrigerate level getting low over a period of time but no leaks can be found. If you have all new lines/hoses then just disregard what I just said! Guy
  19. It reads more to the E side. It still gets to F. The Ford sending unit reads from 73ohms empty to 8-12ohms full. The Datsun one reads from 88ohms to about 10ohms. So basically when it reads E on my guage I still have about 1/8 of a tank left. So its not really a big deal to me. Atleast I should never run out of gas? LOL Guy
  20. First of all....yes replace the receiver/drier for sure. That thing is a basically a sponge for moisture(moisture in the air). If that has been open to the atmoshpere for too long it will for sure be junk. No matter how long you hold a vacuum on the system. There are special chemicals that are made for flushing A/C system but you also need special equipment to flush them. You could try flushing it out with some R134a oil by just pouring it in one end and waiting for it to come out the other? Guy
  21. Those exhaust tips suck! I think 2 big tips would look much better that the 4 turn down pipes. Otherwise it looks like serious business! Oh and Tim, according to that link and the info provided.....thats an LS2 bored/stroked to a 389" with 575HP and 500TQ. Not to shaby with out a SC but can you imagine it with one! Guy
  22. Ok first of all....I dont really approve of street racing either. However, I live in the middle of no where. The road we raced on was a back road that was just paved last year. Both side of the road are open farm fields. We never once saw a car. Trust me we were as safe as we could be. Now here's how it went down... We both decided that the race was going to be some where around a 1/3 to a 1/2 mile(we just picked a starting point and an abandond house that was on the left side of the road as the finish line). So after I did a short burn out to warm up the tires we line up. Now I was the one saying 1-2-3 and on 3 we would go. So I say 1-2-3 and we both start out pretty good. I could have let the clutch slip a little less but none the less, I still had a pretty good launch. So we get up to about 30mph and we are still even......then as we got up to 40mph he pulled on me a little but my front bumper was still even with his rear tire and I started to catch him. All the way up to about 110mph we were even.......then he shifted into 5th and I took 4th to about 5800RPMs and hit 5th and thats when I started to pass him! I pulled about 1/2 a car length on him and I was still going but it was pointless cause he wasnt going to catch me! We got up to about 125mph-130mph then the race was over. So we slow down and stop at the intersection thats about a mile down the road and he pulls up next to me......and you should have seen the look on his face / !!! It was deffinetly a priceless moment! He's like "holy shit man that thing is faster than I thought......jesus....I still cant believe you beat me!.......no way...less race again!" So we lined up again and basically the same thing happen again! We lined up for a 3rd time and he beat me then but thats because I totally bogged it off the line, I mean I must of pulled like a 2.5 60'. I didnt even try after that cause I knew it was over. Fazer.......1 80LT1......2 Lets just say he's got A LOT more respect for my car now. I mean he already thought it was cool but now I think hes just in shock! He wants to race again on thursay so we can video tape it so he can show his army buddies. So I will post that when I get it loaded on to my site. Oh and now he wants to go to the track with it too. So I will have a racing buddy next summer! Now I wont have to drag my girlfriend down there. She doesnt mind going but she doesnt love it either. Guy
  23. TPI's are know for low end torque and not being able to "breath" at higher RPMs. So if you dont rev real high it could be a good engine for you. But most guys will say stay away from this engine if you like to race. Yes it will be cheaper than a LT1 but it wont have nearly as much power or the potential for power as the LT1. Like I said before you can get an LT1 out a Caprice, Roadmaster, and the Impalla SS for about half the cost of an LT1 out of an F-body. Do you want to keep the engine stock or open it up and modify it? Is finding a hard top easier? Well that depends which Z car you are talking about. A lot of the 280ZX's and 300ZX have T-tops. The 240,260, and 280Z's did not have t-tops. The 240, 260, and 280Z's are going to cost more than the ZX's because everyone wants them(especially the 240's) The best bet is to get a 280Z(cheaper and still a Gen1 body so there is more info on the swap than the ZX's) and put a LT1 in that. If you do start looking for a Z car just be sure to check for rust. Rust is very time consuming to fix and very costly. So its ALWAYS better to pay a little more for a clean car than it is to pay less for a rusty car. As for other Zcar sites that have info on V8 swaps....I think(gaurantee) this is the best site for info on that subject. If you want to know about stock componets go over to zcar.com or gotz.com But dont go over to zcar.com and ask about V8's in Gen1 cars, cause if you do you will be flamed big time. They pretty much hate what we do! Guy
  24. Yeah he said he was pulling 13.6-13.8 consistantly. So I guess that GTech must be some what accurate. Nice times and MPH too! Guy
  25. Well unless it rains tomorrow, I will be racing my buddies Fazer finally. Hes on his 2 weeks leave from IRAQ and he wants to race! Now that my car is running right and I have the running concerns worked out I am actually ready to race. I will set up a video camera so I can show ya how close it is. He's talking a lot of $hit thats all I know. I dont think I will beat him but I do think it will be closer than he thinks. He thinks its going to be over in about 50 yards. We will see. Hes only been riding a bike for a less than a year, maybe 3 months out of the last year. So hes not exactly a skilled driver so maybe that will help! Wish me luck! Guy
