Budget Radiator Setups: Please Advise Us
Naptown Dave replied to sloganish's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Take a couple coat hangers and bend them to the approximate shape needed to connect point a to a and b to b and take them to your friendly auto parts retailer and see what's closest fit. You can get a coupling if you need to rotate it. I used an aluminum double pass radiator from speedway that was pretty reasonable. Check out my build thread finally got started there may be some part #s -

1978 280Z 5.3L T56 Build
Naptown Dave replied to ladams17's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Looks like a good start bro. Good luck getting a decent deal on a T56, keep your eyes peeled and know as soon as you buy one a cheaper/better one will pop up! If you don't mind a little fab and welding build your own headers. I used speedway motors generic 1 3/4" LS kit and am pretty happy with how they turned out. Do your research, ask questions and build it right the first time! Good luck, Dave -

So you have no signals up front at all? I went with a small led signal up front and had to switch to an electronic flasher to get them to operate.

Your 2.4 hit hard I'd be afraid of what you would do with twice the displacement! -

Steve that sucks, we did have a great summer. I'll keep my eye out for a good LS motor for you just in case. -
245 tires without flared fenders?
Naptown Dave replied to Newoldschool's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I have a 16x8 XXR 527 with BFG sport comp 2 245/50 in the front. Chevette springs with about 2 coils cut. Minor rubbing before I trimmed the valance. I think a 245/45 would have fit well. Proxys were the only street tire I could find in that size. The back is 17x9.5 with a 275/40 and 1.5" spacer that sticks out like a 4x4. I think I have clearance for a 1" spacer but need to get flares either way. I don't recall the offset on either wheel. -
It sounds like it'll be a little lumpy with the tight lsa. You will have to let us know how about its street manners are. I bet it will sound badass

Finally got started
Naptown Dave replied to Naptown Dave's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Matt that f bomb is sooo bad. It had a rotted 2 x 4 screwed to the frame to hold the seat in place and what looks like tarred roofing felt for part of the floor. Give me a year or two and it'll laid out on bags and have a 3-4 chop... -

Been in the garage a bunch and not on the computer much... Finished the body, paint and most of the interior. I have to build a kick panel to protect my ecm and the jumbled mess of wiring at the passengers right foot. Still need to do some sorting, door solenoids and strike plates need adjusted after the weather stripping went in. Front suspension clunks at bumps in the road and the diff needs to be pulled and reshimmed but it is running the streets of Indy. You can see the next project lurking in the pics. -
I have a decent spare tire well you can have for shipping cost from indianapolis
-
Madkaw I just happen to be starting a project at IU this week, take a look if you get a chance.

z240, yeah I have most of the pieces of the plastic one the was in there. I might just have to take you up on that if nothing else pans out, I know how things pile up, I'll trade you a 4 spd for it! (shipping not included) Tyler, I will search that I know the Honda wiper swap is a common one...

I'm looking for the fan part of the blower assembly for a 75 coupe. I'm not sure if other years fit. I will buy the whole assembly if needed but would prefer just the fan due to shipping costs. Thanks, Dave

Time for the 5.3 to get some more power
Naptown Dave replied to mattd428's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
My arms are fine but my 3hp compressor is getting worn out. Nice, a little love for the shadetree mechanics, fabricators and painters that build some pretty cool stuff with inspiration and a few tools. Thanks -

Front Wheel Not Centered
Naptown Dave replied to padam07's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
As stated above, check your lca bushings and t/c rod installation but also take a look at the condition of your lca. One of mine had two pretty good dents in it. I didn't think much of it and wire brushed, painted and installed new bushings. The impact (s) that caused the dents also bent the arm about 1/2" making my horizontal wheel spacing that much different. Our cars are plus/minus 40 years old and have seen who knows what kind of abuse. -
Great looking build! I've only cruised around my neighborhood so I have limited experience but the only time I've heard my pump cavitate is when I only had a couple gallons of fuel in the tank.

I built my fuel tank and have a autometer universal sender. I believe the Phantoms are available in the three common ohm ratings so you should be able to match the stock sender. I think I have an extra 0-90 ohm fuel gauge.... The oil pressure goes up with the rpm and I can see the t stat open but other than that I have no real idea on the accuracy. The volt meter does match my multi meter. It was a little over $800 for the gauge set but I got a $100 rebate with the purchase. The 5" GPS speedo was about half the total price
