  1. Not a fan of any sporterized mil surp, but if you like it, that's what counts. Me, I like my bone stock K-31
  2. Got my last final in an hour, then a pair of papers to finish up (that I really, really just don't care about anymore) then it's back home for xmas. And I have to find a job next year that'll let me work on the Z, all while writing my senior thesis
  3. http://www.google.com/trends?q=AR-15%2C+AK-47&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 I wonder if anyone else can guess what the 2004 spike was
  4. What headlights are those? I need to replace mine soon.... And man, I wish I had my Z back in HS, but college is the best I managed
  5. Well, the EASIEST way for us to help you would be is if you give us the block code and cylinder head code, along with the dish on the pistons. From there we could all make a FAR more educated guess as to potential power output.
  6. Agreed. Z car guys tend to just want to go fast, we don't really care where the parts come from
  7. Nice find. I'm hoping to pick up a Uberti 1858 New Army this xmas season.

    E85

I'm actually talking about boost/compression, not making sure my lines can take it

    E85

Grrrrr. Now the question is do I build a L30er for 91 octane cr*p, or do I build it planning on E85 being available....
  10. I'm going to take a stab at this and say you'll probably make plenty of power, but I don't know about 400+. You're REALLY going to have to list specifics. Piston dish, head, LD28 crank? boring? edit to clarify: Not saying it's iffy, I'm just saying that more information would be helpful.
  11. oh hey, 12:31 here, and I'm going to be up till atleast 2am finishing papers
  12. I have nothing to add to this discussion other than to say that is a REALLY clean looking engine What intake is that?
  13. Thanks for the links and info. I'm not *seriously* considering a 4 banger swap into a Z (unless I can pick up a 3rd chassis for cheap/free), but you never know....
  14. First: Yes, I searched. There was only one thread on this back in '06 This kit: http://www.synapseturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=&Product_Code=syn-kit05&Category_Code=features got me thinking about these engines again. While obviously it remains to be seen how long they can put out ~370whp before something serious breaks, it seems like it would be a great alternative to those who want a four cylinder Z as a DD. Anyone ever put one of these (or any Ecotec for that matter) into a Z? note: This is the direct injection engine, not the regular 2.0L
  15. If you did that, you could probably integrate a strip of them into the hood itself. That's what I would do, atleast.
  16. Yah, that's what's keeping me from Hagerty. Landlord has all his s**t in the garage, and the Z is my DD.
  17. Unfortunately the only shop I know of that could help is the Z Car Garage in San Jose, but that's to far for you I'm guessing, and last I heard he was pretty backed up. If I was closer I'd help a DIY project.
  18. Mine was (IIRC, don't feel like finding the receipt) something like three or four grand back in 2001 when the PO had it built from a L29. That includes the block, crank, head and manifold work though, as well as the cams, so basically what he got. Since it looks like he ordered a new block as well, I'm guessing he spent.....6-8k *shrugs*. Rossman, what cam specs/head did you go with? final CR?
  19. I'm 21 and paying ~ 600/yr for my Z, and that includes collision and comprehensive, including coverage of all the engine mods. Shop around, take a look at AAA, etc. If I had stayed with state farm, I'd be paying ~1600/yr
  20. nice. You go with a 3.0 or 3.2?
  21. The volume issue with the rotrex unit seems to be more an issue of the size of the blower rather than the drive mechanism, since it is designed to spin faster. *shrugs*
  22. well, probably the switch for me then, since I've swapped the flasher unit already. Probably clean that out this winter, and if it still doesn't work, I'll swap the flasher units or something to see if both the old one AND the replacement I got were bad.
