  1. dont mean to thread jack but I also just popped a new r200 in my car from a junkyard. Under load at low rpms I'm getting a low pitched noise with some vibration. As I increase load and rpms it goes away, any ideas on that one?
  2. I used Clevite 77 tri metals. I know its a chunk of change, but if you're planning on boosting that Holset a lot I'd be careful with the stock pistons. Those ringlands will be the first to go at higher boost and any detonation. I dont see any reason you couldnt make 350 though.
  3. If the coolant was being pressurized then wouldnt i be blowing hoses off or at least overflow from the radiator? Car runs perfectly and then just pops one out. I've been getting on the car pretty hard the past couple days since Jb Welding em and I've had no issue so far.
  4. No actually, I wish . . . Aparently it took a 595whp inline Z to do it . . .
  5. I'm glad to see you're so openminded Doc. I know alot of V8 guys that still wont touch import 4cyl's even though they have proven themselves for years.
  6. Dangit, put that crap back together! We're supposed to race, haha.
  7. I heard of a HybridZ member putting the HURT on a Twin Turbo Viper this weekend . . . .
  8. Its certainly a pretty popular car to import from Japan, RHD. I got the privelage of driving a '95 Mitsu Lancer Evo III on friday night. RHD, Turbo, AWD. VERY fun car. I'd love to have one for a daily . . .
  9. Its done it with both 13 and 16psi caps on the rad. I've blown one on the turbo side and 3 on the pass side. The head was replaced with a fresh rebuilt one after the last one warped. I dont see coolant being pressurized elsewhere. Never get any Rad. overflow, dont have any cooling issues to speak of. Car runs beautifully and then every once in a while . . . POP.
  10. John Shepard has one of these down in the 7's now . . . I have a bunch of friends with fast DSM's. I think the main reason why they have a bad rap reliability wise has to do with the vast amount of misinformation in their community. I mean, they are so popular that you have all kinds of yahoos telling people to do this or that. Plenty of fast ones as well as plenty of blown up ones, haha. Bang for the buck, hands down a great option . . .
  11. Other than using the orange high temp silicone . . . my install sounds the same as you described Paul. I am using steel plugs BTW.
  12. well I will continue to investigate the cause, but like I said its been on multiple setups different headgaskets, etc. This doesnt always happen on the same hole, 3 different ones now. I went ahead and replaced it with another plug and this time I JB welded the outside seams. Hopefully this works . . .
  13. Off the spray should be a good race . . . we shall see . . .heheh
  14. Alright fellas, this was very costly the first time it happened, warped a head. since then I've been much more careful but it still happened again, and again and again. AKA 4 times now. This is just bizarre. I dont have any cooling issues to speak of. I'm not overflowing coolant out of the radiator. The only thing I can say is that 3 out of the 4 times it happened when doing a burnout, then once last night when I was under full boost. I dont seem to have an headgasket sealing issues, as this has happened with both a standard headgasket and now with my metal HG which has been retorqued several times. I was thinking that perhaps when I do a burnout the rpms rise so fast that the coolant doesnt have enough time to flow and pressure builds up. The plugs SHOOTING out of the block! Guys I really havent heard of this happening to others and it scares me, because it usually leaves me totally stranded. Ideas??
  15. I think Matt's right . . . I've heard this happening as well, just havent reached a point to experience it myself. I was considering switching to the MSD DIS-4 as well mainly for 2-step reasons but this is certainly another good reason . . .
  16. Well I just picked up another 3.54 diff in the JY today. I'll be going with it for now. I took the cover off and the pin looked in perfect shape. I'm anxious to get it in so I can get to the track again. Too bad I cant get my hands on an LSD at the moment, I know it would help . . .
  17. Awesome numbers brother! Why you always gotta do that to me . . .
  18. so do I understand that the only way to get a 3.36 is from a 280zx 4spd 2+2 or a 260z 2+2? As far as I understand it, the lower the gear the quicker a turbo car gets. More load, in boost longer, little better traction, etc. Zgad goes faster every time he goes lower.
  19. Is it just the carrier or the whole case? I'll probably take you up on the offer, I might like to weld one of em solid and see if I can live with it, or if it even makes that big a difference at the track.
  20. hmm thats good idea . . . once the roll pin is out/broken should that shaft slide out easily? Obviously mine has taken a beating but it doesnt slide out even when i try to beat it out with a hammer/screwdriver. Once I go pick up a new one I may try welding the shaft in like you said.
  21. Wish I could man . . . money owns me . . .
  22. LOL, right again Mr. Mortensen . . . I just took the carrier out and took the ring gear off. WAY oval shaped. The roll pin has one end completely snapped off. Like I said the ring gear and spider gears look to be in good shape although the pinion gear has some wear on it. I'm thinking it would be better off just replacing the whole thing. Unless someone has a 3.54 carrier they wanna send me . . .?
  23. Ok I just got it out and Mr. Mortensen is correct, it looks like the cross pin decided to free itself and bang around inside. The potentially good news is that the ring gear appears to be undamaged as does pretty much everything else. I guess the only damage was to the cross pin itself which I'm guessing is not a big deal. So my question is, do i spend the time pulling another diff from the JY. Or can I just replace the cross pin and be on my way?
