  1. Noticed you fuel pump is mounted in the engine bay. Do you have a low pressure pump mounted near the tank supplying fuel? High pressure pumps don't suck fuel very well and require there to be a bit of head at the inlet. Not sure on your spark issues as I ditched the stock stuff long ago.
  2. Do a little fact checking before posting please. I am not in favor of the bill, but there are a few attributes to this bill that don't make it as bad as it initially seems. First of all, it only applies to businesses with more than $1million in revenue. This immediately disqualifies just about everyone selling stuff here and the majority of people on ebay. Secondly, the bill states that software must be made available for free to help manage the tax percentages and that there will be one governing body per state that payments will be made to. So knock the 9800+ tax agencies down to less than 50. Still a royal PITA, but much more manageable IF it even gets passed and made into law.
  3. Joe What size pipe did you end up using? I just made a homemade tool for making beads in the 2.25" steel piping that I fabbed up recently. It worked on the 2.5" AL pipe that I used to have installed as well. Text me your address and I'll pop it in the mail for you. Not as elegant a solution as a true bead roller but it worked well enough for me. Alec
  4. Vintage Air units are electrically controlled. And the Mini fits great in a 280Z. If y'all end up doing something with this I have VA unit installed and a Nexus 7 I would love to integrate in my dash. I would even be willing to help some with development costs. I don't like the looks of any of VA's mechanical controls, but I don't have experience with programming or arduino to rig up something myself.
  5. Yes he is. I have one of his braces, though I haven't got around to installing it yet. Still running the non-finned cover.
  6. I've got a 370Z Touring Sport package but unfortunately I'm out in West Texas. Had it for a year and I still haven't had a chance to put her through much of a workout. There's not a fun road within 5 hrs of here.
  7. I'm not racing my car either and I'm most interested in usable power like Tony mentioned. So what was important to me was early spool up and low end torque. With that being said I decided that a 0.63 A/R exhaust on a GT3071 should fit the bill perfectly for me. Then for ease of packaging I went with a 5bolt ford exhaust housing and ATP ultimate internal wastegate. For the compressor housing I got the compact 3" inlet 2" outlet. Follow the link below for where I ordered. I'm hoping this will build boost by 25-2800 and pull to 60-6500. I know my stock cam will be the limiting factor for now and expect it to run out of breath at 5800. I'm trying to find an A cam right now. http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=GRT-TBO-020&Category_Code=GRT
  8. I picked up a GT3071 for my car and decide to stay with an internal wastegate to minimum fab work and plumbing. I spent a lot of time researching before picking a turbo. I really wanted to tryout one of the Borg Warner EFR turbos but they seemed to be unavailable at the time. I too am only looking for about 300whp, but I wanted to maintain stock-like boost threshold. Should be dropping the engine back in soon and hopefully be back on the road in a couple months. I'm still I running a stock cam and head, but that will change soon if I'm not happy with how this engine performs.
  9. Any plan to make tinted lenses? I could care less about an OEM look, but I hated the way the MSA covers fit. Yours look fantastic! I think your set with black powder coated trim rings and tinted lenses would look absolutely badass.
  10. Seems simple enough. Great tip! I will definitely take advantage of this.
  11. Josh, pretty sure this tune is for a turbo motor. He mentions this is on a stock L28et in one of the earlier posts. A quick verification would be the scale of the fuel map. If kPa goes much over 100 then it's for a turbo motor.
  12. Leon, Ground vehicle dynamics was a very enjoyable course. Did you ever take single track design with that same prof (completely forgot his name, and but now that you mentioned it i do recall he had a datsun too). I thought single track was a better class but mostly because I actually got to build something. Loved it! I built an electric scooter. With suspension! It was bad ass. Glad you picked up his car and it stayed in the Cal Poly family.
  13. Finally had a chance to measure my jtr radiator. Overall width including the mounting bracket is about 2 7/8". The core itself is quite a bit slimmer and is recessed about 3/4" from the outer lip of the mounting bracket. That puts the width from from the mounting surface to the face of the rad core at about 2 1/8". Probably not slim enough for you. The core itself is only 1 3/8". The issue is the end tanks. Hope this helps.
  14. I have the JTR radiator setup. I will try to get you some measurements tonight if I can. I can say that the core is quite thin but the end tanks are not. Installed thickness ends up being a bit thinner than the previous rad I had (an AL cross flow meant for a Chevy or something that I was never very happy with). Not sure how that thickness compares to a stock rad though.
  15. I think that Carbon Fiber Elements does a lot of CF wrapping of stock plastic pieces for the 370Z crowd and most people on those forums seem to be pretty pleased with his work. Check out the370z.com for some examples of his work.
  16. Sounds very cool. I've definitely thought about trying to use my nexus 7 as the main media control device in my car. I'm not to that point in my project where I've started working on anything yet but I think it would be very cool. Especially if I could use it to interface with megasquirt.
  17. A drain petcock may not be a necessity but after almost 10yrs without one and now having one I'm never going back. Draining coolant by pulling off the lower radiator hose always made a huge mess and I usually ended up smashing the crap out of my knuckles on the alternator trying to yank it off. I think having a drain tig'd on is a good idea.
  18. I think the only major difference is the inside rear hatch area around the taillights. That change actually occurs between early and late 77. There may be a slight door panel difference between early and late 280z. But I think the rest of the interior is the same.
  19. Well somehow in the 3 months my car has been torn apart I managed to misplace one of my stainless steel braided brake hoses for my 77 280Z. I can't for the life of me figure out what happened to it. I was hoping someone out there might have an extra one lying around or a partial set that they'd be willing to break up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  20. Check out www.zcarsource.com their website has just the rubber listed for a fraction of the price of buying the whole molding piece. I haven't purchased this yet so I can't comment on quality but I plan too.
  21. I just bought one a couple weeks ago from rock auto. Glad I got it when I did.
  22. I lived n California for 6yrs without ever registering my Z there. I did end up having to get a Cali license but that was so I could ride motorcycles. I never had any issues with the cops out there and I even got pulled over a couple times and was never even questioned about my Texas plates. Granted I was in a college town most if time, but given my experience I wouldn't bother registering your car. Especially if you're only going to be there a year not be driving it all that much.
