Tony, do you know where Norm's build log resides? I'd love to read it if you could point me towards the link, heard it mentioned multiple times.

FEAL suspension/ welding lower perches
1vicissitude replied to andyhorror's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
You get the car on the road yet? Please report back when you get your first impression. I know some people who have used Odi's coils and they couldn't have better things to say about them. He's not too far from me, thinking about going this direction as well. -
I don't mind stance for a budget coilover, it's just in the game of doubles when $5,000 is the general starting point why do you even want to consider the same brand that most slammed packing lot bros swoon over? I have to admit I have no experience with their newer stuff, but until I see 3rd party data on them I will remain to have my skepticism. Why should a private party have to front the cash to market a companies goods? If they are that good, 3rd party testing would be the best marketing tool they could buy. Flat out, I don't trust a companies offerings who's sponsored drift cars don't even run their coilovers at the pro level lol. Go to D1 in the pits and look at the cars running and you'll see penske, ohlins, etc. You know, the big budget stuff that real race teams use in most of motorsports. Also, there are a couple other companies who sell relabeled Stance coilovers in different colors, this is very common with the asian manufactured coilovers. Why even have brand loyalty to a brand when anyone with enough money can buy a container of the same product and have a start up coilover brand? There is just too much good stuff out these days, some with crazy cool bleeding edge technology like spool valves, accelometer and velocity active dampening with millisecond response time, or even magnetic adjustment. In the market when there is so much available I'd chose to not make my performance decisions to a company so heavily focused with the swag stance guys.

I was in contact with AST, who bought Moton, and they would make a custom 4100 series with weld in adaptors for $3000, I imagine doubles would be another grand or some on top of that. Essentially what 949racing sells as their base Xida miata coilover, which couldn't have better reviews. Hit up feal suspension, they make an s30 aplication with weld in tubes and swift springs for $1350, Odi really knows his stuff. he can make doubles or whatever you need and can afford. It''s all custom built, he can tune it to do whatever your desire. http://fealsuspension.com/page15.php I second Jon's opinion of Stance. If you are serious they shouldn't be on your list. http://www.hancheyvehicletech.com/category/HVT+Coilovers.html or HVT is another option. They are supposedly a step up from the 1st gen AST xida and now are the manufacturer of the second gen. Very good stuff and they can make custom applications. penske is good stuff, but not for those without shop/factory support. AST or HVT will get you there for much cheaper, granted ~$5000 is still a lot of coin.

New 16x8 and 9 wheels.
1vicissitude replied to JPN_Garage's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I like the sizes and happy to see more options. The SL1 wheel has a nice retro flare that will naturally look nice on these cars. The wheel is already very popular too, I have seen them on just about everything they fit. Probably a good choice to bring to market. My honest opinion on the km16, I think it looks hideous and cheap. Some replica or cheaper wheels are done welll enough that they escape the cheap wheel look, these unfortunately do not. Looks like a really cheap knock off Rotiform. Kinda of like how Drag's replicas always look off and poorly copied. My 2c I think any of Klutch's other designs would be more popular in these sizes. This style of wheel is very polarizing even when made by some of the high end manufacturers. -
Just chime in on John's comment. When he said a great lsd should be your first addition, using a tired old r200 is not what he meant. An OS giken, or better yet one additionally tuned OS Giken, will greatly help getting power to the ground in the most effective way possible. I remember in my miata days, it was not uncommon for the addition of an OS Giken to save several seconds over the stock torsen. Just any ol' lsd doesn't cut it. That ls swap pits you in the company of some very fast and serious builds.

I'm looking for the actual turn signals, so lens and housing both right and left.

I'm looking for a set of front turn signals for a 240z. I'm trying to get the chrome bumper back on to my car. The previous owner installed a body kit that I can't wait to remove. Thanks for the help!

Matters on condition. I've seen them go in rebuild shape for $50. Ones that are freshly rebuilt anywhere from $450-$600. With a head having pictures; proving that its not warped, showing no major damage, and that its complete all help the sale.

Haha yeah... Still think it would be beneficial to offer more stroke than just copy the ld28. $2,000 for a large stroke crank, places like Datsun spirit and Rebello would certainly have their interests peaked for their higher dollar builds. I don't think it's all that uncommon for builds from either to cost 8k or more, would certainly make things interesting without a huge price hike.
-
For the money and effort, I'd rather go with as much stroke possible. Might as well play with options to lighten it, have it knife edged, counter balanced, etc. Whatever to make it stand out from the used $600 cranks that pop up reguarly. Offering an affordable option to kameari's larger stroke $5,000+ crank would be great for stateside builders as well. Right now the options are nearly $10k for a 3.35, right? Personally, I'd push the chinese option. That $1000 is forged 89-90mm pistons right there. Cheaper the better is the general consensus of the datsun community imo.

Twin cam head for the L6 from Derek at Datsunworks
1vicissitude replied to Derek's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
I don't have the money at this time for a head like this, so what I am saying is purely conjecture at this point, but I have the feeling if one were built, running and making good power the orders would come. It is not uncommon for modified k24s to be making 350-400whp N/A these days, honestly it's just a matter of a port job and a combination of the right parts. There's no wizardry in it, anyone with a credit card can copy and paste one of the many known combinations. At the end of the day a $8,000-10,000 is surely expensive, however if these heads are 400whp capable and proven it puts them in direct competition with most swaps both in terms of power and cost. I bet you'd find there are more customers than you would first like to think. I mean even a basic LS or RB swap costs similar. -
Twin cam head for the L6 from Derek at Datsunworks

Just thought I'd throw this in here, efihardware now has much more affordable itbs on ebay. $1200 for three dcoe itbs in either 45mm or 50mm with trumpets, linkage, and a fuel rail. Pretty awesome deal and should help save more than a few bucks over jenevy. -
Tires with 260 tread wear
1vicissitude replied to skirkland1980's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
There are a good number of tires in the 300tw range. Just filter by siZe on tirerack, and then sort by performance rating. ~300tw will be max performance summer tires. However, those are weird rules from drag racing. I doubt you will get a lot of feedback on what works in that scenario. Your best bet would be to see what the fast tire is at the track. In all honesty a 300tw tire is not a good drag tire, what works well will be discovered by dumb luck and lots of testing. I would definitely look into what the fast guys are using, I'm certain the majority of tires in that tw range will be horrendous for drag racing. -
Ah I was considering ordering someJE pistons with a similar compression height to use with maxspeed's fj20 140mms rods. I believe they are actually lighter than DSI's and a helluva deal at $450. Figure I could get most the advantages for about half the price. Very curious to see how your build turns out. I've shared a few emails with Eiji a few times, very nice guy. His SPL heads are gorgeous.

koni yellows and no travel
1vicissitude replied to mossy74's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Are you using the stock isolators? How long are the bump stops? You could free up more travel at your height using camber plates, either bolt on or weld in, if you are using the stock isolater now. -
Wheel Show! Post your pics of you wheels
1vicissitude replied to k3werra's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Tirerack just brought back the t1r in 245/45/16, Bridgestone also semi-recently made the Re-11 in that size and is also on the rack. I wouldn't say its a come back, but atleast we have two non R-comps now. -
The t3 arms do not relocate the inner pivots like AZC. The inner are not Heim joints, just bushings through the stock location. Do not think they apply to this discussion. They do not offer the adjustability of the others though. So other than being stronger and having adjustable toe, I don't think they offer any optimization over stock.
