  1. Hes got a good one thats for sure. Its in the AT. But hey Aux, we're all talking about OURSELVES here?!@# 8)
  2. Way I see it, some people like to race their cars on the weekends, some like to enter them in shows. I personally take pride in the fact that I rack up miles left and right on something that I built, and that I fully understand the good of this is that I enjoy this car everyday, the bad part of this to me is that I have to tune more conservatively and sometimes have the other not so cool part of having an old skool comes into play, like lack of power steering and ac or power windows. I take the good and the bad together, and I keep driving. Mitsubishi makes great turbos, they just need to put a car together around one that can dish out the pain, like a rwd EVO or something.
  3. Another question is what do you like more, v8s or turbos. I can see a guy with a history of working around v8s leaning towards doing a v8 conversion, and the same for turbos. At one point in my life I worked on S/BBC/F/M almost everyday for years, I didnt want to come home to one, thats what happened to me, I just got sick of seeing them. For daily driving, I prefer my turbo car vs. my v8z, IMO and IME, its a lot easier to drive and off the boost feels like its bone stock. I drive my car up to 500miles a week and no less than 250weekly. I drive it so much I change my oil every 6 weeks when its closer to 500miles/wk. The v8 car would beat me silly all the time, but I had much more into the suspension that my current car. Heres my favorite, I redline this car almost everyday for a year now, do 80 minimum on the freeway to the tune of 25mpg average (I tune my car using the crappiest/cheapest 91 octane I can find, and maintain safe a/f and egt@11psi, anything higher I use good gas and do some tuning, sounds weird but the way I have the car setup it doesnt ping whatsoever and starts up with almost no key motion from a cold morning startup ) mpg is lower im sure because of that, if not its because I drive like im trying to get somewhere, fast What are you looking to do? Buy a hybridz, make a hybridz, or have someones shop make you a hybridz, these affect things somewhat.
  4. Hey didnt mean to sound like a purist from that first post, I just like to use new parts and if that was the choice I would have used an oem, or felpro headgasket. I prefer the steel ones too, but I honestly would pay the 150 just for a new part. Probably go head studs on next setup, I wouldnt have any regrets about reusing that system.
  5. Just out of principle i would just get the oem nissan headgasket. 2mm is too much on stock l28et engine, would bring cr down to 6.99 or maybe 7 flat. Its already too low for me, would want to see it get lower. 2mm is for higher cr turbo engine to me, like flatop f54/p90 to cut down cr a notch and add strength.
  6. stock offset for 240sx is fwd style wont work. any 70-83z-x wheel slaps right up, biggest stock wheels were 15x6 turbo swastikas or the snowflakes toyota supra early year four lug wheels fit but hub too small for front. mustang 4 lug mags that are dual drilled for z lug pattern will work sometimes.
  7. Stony are you saying that when a 13b is moving its a/f requirements and displacement is equal to a 3.9? If so does that mean at 1bar it inhales 7.8 (almost 500 cubes) worth of air and using that much fuel? That would explain why the turbo upgrades for them run such big exhaust housings to me. Ive heard the 3.9 discussion before, and it makes sense to me, its just hard to grasp im still a piston, pushrod and cam guy Sr20 isnt a downgrade, and its an easy swap, has to be, it fits in there good from the sides and front/back. I would still go RB over it anyday though, just to outrule the possibility of a 510/roadster type being able to get you in the straight with his SR swapped car. Zcar should always be top of the food chain
  8. Im interested in specs on it as well. Looks like a Phantom Grip, which is more like a mini spool than LSD. R200 already seems to lock both axles just fine in a straight line, its the doughnuts were missing here!
  9. the seller is wheelchoice.com, and they arent very good at answering emails in general.
  10. I think ross was working on something for z31, not sure. s30t axles slip right in and you could use adapters for those, or use the outers from s30t and use Ross's adapter flanges. Or go full cu$tom axles and adapters.
  11. what is retrofit lsd??? do a doughnut

    RB25DETT

I like em all, RB26 is a monster for sure. Im leaning towards rb25, simply because I can get them for about as much as an s14 front clip since there is so many of them in jdm market. Next month an rb26dett with rb25 trans in a rwd skyline is coming to my buddies shop, and Ill be checking that out shortly. rb26 is the sh#@
  13. If you are using a dry cell like an optima, you dont need a really expensive (although, very nice) battery box. I used a plastic box for storing marine batteries that autozone or kragen should have, it fits regular size batterys and can be modded to fit anywhere you want it, it has a cover for hiding the leads. I dont like the idea of those leads being exposed in the car, just me.
  14. Been on the road 80 percent of this year, with the exception of when I was driving some of my come and go cars. My v8z was the same way, pure daily driven street machines. Ive been driving mine everyday and while mine isnt the prettiest, Ive gotten my money back plus knowing I have the ability to run within .3 of my track times on the street, at any time I so feel like it, when I get into the 12s on the ol' L motor, I cant imagine or tolerate it being any other way but daily driven. My cars arent trailer queens, show cars, gossip magnets, or slow :twisted. The sheer glory of being able to drive something I made everyday is awesome, its one of my goals when I do a car and wont accept it if its anything less than that, no exceptions- I am the guy who would restore a 1st camaro and drive it everyday like a jerk, I am that guy. Yo, theres no reason why you cant drive your car everyday, and if you want the talon, thats your choice and not a bad car at that. I like your car and think you put too much work into it not to keep it. You could always fix up the talon and sell it, and pick up a spare car like a 240sx or a crx or something. Just Opinions Len168
  15. I had a powerstroke intercooler like the one above, and it wouldnt have fit no how unless I cut the inner fenders and part of the frame to clear it,since its WIDE. I went NPR and havent looked back, I lost auctions on 944 ic or I would have picked one of those up, great unit as well.
  16. Had a maserati bi-turbo come in a couple times, didnt sell when i was there. renault r5-never most of the european cars that are older get avoided like the plague, the hot cars are domestic and japanese. So far, about 40 cars have come and gone out of my life in the past four years, and for some reason only 7-8 zcars?
  17. Just look him up, im sure he'll be down to give you a ride, or wait a few months we will all by at Rio Vista.
  18. hit up stocktonZ, his brother owns the Anywhere Cafe in Stockton, he has a v8z. Get a ride in it, and see what you think. anywherecafe.com, weve met up there once upon a time. stocktonZ info sould be in the memberlist above.
  19. My Neighbor has a 200sx turbo, it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor, its amazing looking. He drives it everyday. If you go to the auction with more than 1200, youve outclassed half the bidders in San Francisco. Heres a list( about 1/4 of total auction bought cars, cant remember all of them its a lot) of the wacky cars weve (friends and I)picked up there for like nothing. Turbo 2 rx7 with jspec tt engine, probably 2rotor cosmo when I think about it, motor and trans mounts not even tightened down all the way and and tons of vacum lines loose, but started up and drove, fixed it changed the oil turned up the boost until factory guage would pin past like 30psi(was wrong) and street raced and drifted it, probably 12 second car-900 Mk3 supra with lexus afm, big injectors, and a blown headgasket. Fixed the headgasked and got a junkyard turbo. Cost 300 1989 Acura Legend with pearl paint, five speed v6 all options, body kit, and a frozen throwout bearing and dangerously low cut springs-900 1982 280zx quarter panel damage, five speed and was fun as hell to powershift and thats it, jumped the crap out of it on San Franciscos steepest hill and rally raced it at the dump-400 1989 240sx coupe, straight and ran good 750 1988 honda accord, ran good, had to replace a control arm-500 Starions, weve had a few, turbo cars dont get bid on because most of the time they are there, its headgasket or turbo or engine failure, and its a chance some people dont take. To this list I have to add a ton of nice pickup trucks, import and domestic that go in both sides of this list. The cars ive seen go for under 2000: mustang 5.0s all years irocs all years Grand National, interior stripped and sitting on spares-1600 1995 saab 9000 turbo, mint looking-1500 1978 280z that looked like it just rolled off the showroom floor, I could have bought but I made a rookie move and started it on the auction floor-1200, sucker cranked over with about .00001 turn of the key after 90 days of sitting there!!! 1991 Honda Civic with a B16a motor swap and roll cage-2200 (ok its close) 1990 240sx with redtop sr20det engine 2500 (so close as well) Police car crown vics and caprices (these are after they get took from the gangsters, and they go for under 2k and sometimes under 1k all the time) The list goes on and on for what ive seen come and go from the auction. Every wednesday I wake up early, even if I dont have any money, to go roll with my buddies and see what the game is like. Sometimes we go just to learn more about the hustle, studying the moves of the people who have been doing it for decades, the bodymen who buy the ones with damage, fix em and sell them, the mechanics who come on their days off to find a car for whatever reason, people who go to make some cash, guys who own small car lots and look for cars to fix up and sell, and others looking to buy a car who couldnt afford the one they want through private party, and a million more types, its freakin beautiful to me.. There have been times we have bought cars just for the rims, trade them in the parking lot, and sell the car to a friend for what we bought it for. No matter what its a good excuse to wake up early and have a nice productive day. We know the locals and they dont bid against us, usually its the rookies that skybid on us and kill it, We also wont bid against the people trying to buy their car back instead of paying tow fees. If youre looking to get a cool car for 2000, the auction is a great place to find one, if youre willing to take that chance and are somewht mechanically inclined. If 2000 is total max budget, I would go for a car for substantially less to save the rest for fixing it. Its fun and if I could buy a car a week, I would.
  20. Totally agree, we dont live in a perfect world and stuff always comes up.
  21. I like the oem stuff, how many 200k zxt cars are out there on their oem fuel pump? I bet the porsche pump costs a lot retail, since a brake booster is close to 1k.. Got mine from my people at Autobahn, a shop that deals mostly in European cars, and they had one in a bosch box in their spare parts bin, a 944 and the other for a 450sel, 100.00 for two new!!!! I may run one inline someday. 450 sel looks same but has different fittings
  22. If we lived in a perfect world, Phytes plan sounds like the fight plan, but we dont. I would look for a whole running zxt, drive it until you understand it, then swap it. The key to pulling off the cheap motorswaps is understanding the way it works, other wise that 2k will disappear.
  23. Instructions for my buddies master cylinder specifically said a dab of loctite to the threads. It isnt needed but they recommended it. Thanx to my Datsuns, everytime I go to pop a fitting loose I buy spare hardline and proceed with the vicegrips and pliers, I havent yet been able to get one loose with a tube wrench.
  24. eh, had to try, Guess I have to install it...pity My car is setup pretty soft I guess. My car will handle well soon, doing some suspension, but nothing nuts like the shortened struts and coil setup wth ilumina, I wouldnt even know what to do with all that stuff so I got bolt on parts to get rid of some of the squat and the roll. I am no road race guy thats for sure, I just drag race to see what it does and the rest of the time I just want to put miles on my car, many many many many many miles. many miles, and some more. Cant wait to see if it lags, I kinda hope it does, like the quiet before the storm.. We could always drift battle!
  25. trade me that LSD for the to4e, wont say it twice...
