  1. i think the adjustables are overkill on a street car, especially if youre like me and probably dont take turns hard enough to even test the limits of a good aftermarket spring, shock, and sway bar combo with good sized tires and wheels. Now the brakes, thats a different story 17x8 will fit , will need an offset to go further into the fenderwell though, but its easier to get them on the rear, and more needed back there as well. 5 inch back space on the rear or so????
  2. I have to have it hks opens and closes super fast, push type vs pull type diaphram i think. I would have kept my bosch valve if i hadnt gotten the hks for a great deal, nothing wrong with it, I could hear mine pretty good, had 1" recirc hose. Been driving for 8 months with the hks ssqv, now with z31 and s130t efi, same thing as far as hks ssqv is concerned. It does now sound louder though, dont know if its the 6" hks air filter i installed or the maf, but now it is LOUD. Turbo goes on early January, Im out of Re$ource$ right now for hp. fuel mods go down soon after i run turbo at same boost levels for a little while to get the bugs out of it. Then we run max boost straight downpipe open wg dump with drag radials. Will it be the maf or the afm that does it....
  3. I like the loud bov myself, i am also fond of wg dump pipe too though
  4. fl327, you still owe me a test drive. Bring the car by this week, I'll be gentle I guess my car is next, I have a 300zx ecu and AMS collecting dust in the garage. It should be quick since you just did yours (beer and pizza on me). we can do that. maf system is growing on me, hate to say it. seems to rev faster, besides that i cant really tell what is going on here. looks good in engine compartment too!
  5. still running hks ssqv on z31 day 1.5, no issues whatsoever.
  6. people do this one different. I use l28et harness, i think this one is called "cross firing" z31 ecu uses same plug as s130t, afm plug is almost exactly upside down, pins line up that way and you have to do some more. so far so good. weather is good today, its time to go joggin.

wait, so you alredy pulled the L engine out of your car? Ive always heard that the fox bodies like to spin around on you just when you think youre handling a corner well, i know they whip the tightest doughnuts ive ever seen or done, thats for sure. When would all this stuff be ready to go? turbo stuff i mean?
  8. Ive been working in the garage most of the day today, sleeping, eating, and posting on my laptop-while doing some internet window shopping, Monday is like my sunday so I do my best to relax and do some "me" type stuff. pulled off the super afc for now, made sure the car still ran ok, check. pulled the 87 z31 maf and 87 ecu out of my storage, blew the dust out of the connectors (been a year) and got out my squigly diagrams of how to rewire it back up, ok good. I left everything so that I can go back and forth pretty easily from z31 to eccs. Couldnt start the car for the life of me. Duh, no chopper wheel... Ok so I spend a little time looking for my spare chopper wheels, ok i find em, plop it in, good good. Try it again after making yet some more adjustments. We have ignition... car purrs, idle is pretty good. systems are check. ok, lets go for a ride around the block. I drive slow until the car gets to full operating temp. dangit, thing still likes to idle at 900, guess thats just how it has to be. It is dry outside, so I go for some launch excersize, hey now. Ok fine, it does seems to pickup a bit smoother, and I swapped air filters (cleaning my current one) to an HKS green filter and vented it to outside of car. It drives pretty good, at least as good as my afm setup, which I think I have setup GREAT. I can definitiely feel like I have gained some hp somewhere, from the butt dyno, not a ton, but the car feels a tiny bit lighter, and thats a good thing i guess. didnt go to redline or anything, but the car felt great making a few Wot stabs to 5500, I have to admit that the car felt like it could go at least 6200 without a whimper though, just like my afm. workign with 10psi right now. had to stop, finally let my hunger go so long it hurts, gotta eat. will do some tuning later, but so far so good. I will try to get it dialed in probably this weekend, and will drive it around for another week or two to document mpg vs. the afm setup. So far, not bad, but at the same time, doesnt feel miraculous or anything like that. We'll see 8)

shoot i forgot all about you Randy! sorry about that, and thanx will do on the trans and on site help, im kinda new to sbf scene, my only experience is minor work on fox bodies, and a couple sb and bb f engine installs into 1st gen stangs. I have been around 5.0 cars a whole bunch and have driven a lot of them, I have to say I like them overall and think it would be a great marriage into the s13 chassis. we were thinking rb or sr engine into a 240sx, but this guy who the car belongs too drives really hard and often, he is a process server and sometimes drives 400 miles a day to serve documents, and he loves driving his 240sx to do it. this guy needs domestic driveline, having exotic jspec parts wont work well for the guy i dont think. he is bent on doing the swap, and we should be starting it up soon. goal is a 12 second quarter mile car with a drift suspension, efi, and hopefully 20mpg. Randy thanx again. When does the 302 go into the 280? If you want to sell some parts when your turbo setup comes out, hit me up, and thanx.
  10. ive done the parking lot thing with the 14x10 wheeled car, had 14x8 fronts, flared car of course. sucked, but not too bad if you can keep the car rolling a little bit and steer in, but if you have to stop and cut the wheels alot, its definitely forearm excersize. too small of a front tire and tall profile is bad in rain too i think, 205/60/15 on turbo swastikas on my car and the thing just washes out on me in the wet, but at least it does it at equal rates. Ok fine, that was me doing the 4 wheel drift in the rain
  11. motor mount trans mount loose bolts in either loose trans x member loose bellhousing to engine bolts with engine off, push in clutch, if the whole thing moves, bellhousing turn it on, rev engine, watch movement of engine, if it gets a little floppy, there you go. jack up the car, and take a look at trans mount and everything else, i think its trans mount myself, or loose bolts.
  12. i had this problem with my old 240z, and it was a ground that ripped loose on the passenger side kick panel area. this also grounded the passenger side running light. another time the running lights wouldnt come on i traced it to a bad headlight switch, easy but expensive fix for me, got a factory switch and it was done with, nice switch too. Since you said fuse itself was getting red hot, i would think its the fusebox itself and would address that first, it may be excess corrosion eating the back of your fusebox up, creating resistance there. try this one also, see how much play that fuse has, if it moves around alot, there you go, crusty fusebox and a common z problem. on my 280z, it got so bad i had to replace the fuse box, and i traced it that time to dirty hazard light switch. this is best i can do without being there. what i would do is get that msa fuse box replacement after finding where your short is, and be done with it. I am not good at electronics myself, I just have a Bahala Na attitude towards that kinda stuff. Bahala Na is tagalog and means, no fear in the face of the unknown.
  13. good job putting the nason down, did i hear l28et? lookin good. dont tell me first time paint job? very nice. nason is good stuff, but the prep is even more important. looks like you took care of that though.
  14. hey on3go, what is the backspacing on your front wheels? looks like you dont even really need flares for those fronts! i like your car, a z in any color looks good i think, as long as the paint is nice.
  15. who me, no, not at all? At one point i was thinking of what I would do to a 280zxt, and 19" wheels was up there pretty high. 17" is very common on older z cars now, 18" is already owned by a few as well, but 19" nobody dares run them. On an early z i cant see 19s, as 18s is pushing it pretty hard. its known a zx can fit a larger and wider tire than a z in general, so im saying, WHY NOT? Anyways just throwing it out there, i havent seen 18s on a zxt yet either, that would be cool as heck as well.
  16. very extensive project right there. wouldnt be easy, but would be a great feeling to finish something that hard, thats for sure. im scared of those cars myself, ive seen too many people spend years working on cars like those in their garages, and that was just to get them to run stock!!! My next project is up in the air, but I do know that I am getting the chance to drop a 5.0 sbf t5 into a 240sx this winter as well as an sr20det swap or two, and based on the outcome of those ill know whats next thats for sure. I know im doing a 240sx, 280zx is cool but its too much like my 280z, plus with 240sx you can use 300zxtt suspension, diff and brakes!!!
  17. look closer at the engine in the photo in msa catalog, now im sure they are just atk middle manning it, look at the photos and there is a atk sticker right on the block.. rebello is a well known datsun engine builder in northern california area they built my friends very trick, 3.2 turbo stroker with the infamous electromotive billet bottom end. 404rwhp@14psi, but it cost! They are pricy, but they do know their stuff. do a search for rebello racing, it will come up. rebuilding an L motor isnt cheap, but if you do it right and get good parts, it will last a LONG time.
  18. My buddy had 14x10 rear wheels with 245/60/14 (old) tires on them he said in the rain he was basically a hover craft, he HATED driving it in the rain. It was his only car at the time and he said that it just plain sucked. In the dry it was incredible. a stiff suspension teamed up with big wide tires and a stock 6, made for some fun four wheel drifts thats for sure, except that it was hard to get enough speed to do it!!! I know a guy also with 15x13 rears with 315/50/15 or something ludicrous like that, and also said it was hovercraft season in the rain. Shoot, rwd sportscars dont do well in the rain as a whole, especially an older one. Right now I have car parked in drydock but i do take it out at least once a week to get the feel back, driving isnt so hard, its the stopping distance and the inability to hit the go pedal that bums me out about it!
  19. Two things to be weary of in those cars, Wrx i mean, Sti is beefed up in these areas. 1st gear breaks in those cars, too much hook and boost for it i guess, sti doesnt do that. 2. I think they still run the R160 rear end in them, just scary to me i guess. Nevertheless, I cant even boost in the rain in any gear or I start going sideways, the wrx can. all around good car, the tranny thing does scare me off those cars though. Think I would go with the evo over it though, just because of Jackie Chan in that one movie "Who am I", no seriously, Ive actually been under one on a lift before while the clutch was getting changed and its actually not that bad under there, access I mean. Ive raced a couple of them, very impressive launches i must say from one of them, the other guys thought they could get away with just bogging the car and flooring it on me, and I pulled out on them. The one that launched hard on me got a full car out the hole and I never was able to come back, dangit... oh well. Next season, that arse is mine.....
  20. modern-motorsports.com makes adapters to use fwd offset wheels on your car. everyone has 17s now, they are like the 15" wheel of today, very common, so common they dont stick out anymore. be the first zx on 19" wheels.... do it.
  21. I second the gm alternator, nice units, definitely on my list of things to do, since its known you can get a alternator for a camaro anywhere. I think you are blowing alternators out because it has to work so very hard, 40amps doing a job Nissan said 70amp should be doing. OEM alternators are great, but I have also had great luck with NAPA as far as alternators go, I have a year on my current zxt alternator and its been good to me. Just get the OEM specified alternator for your car or go one better and you should be ok.
  22. if this is for solid rotor i have done it before and i liked it alot. you dont get the feeling like you are about to lock up the brakes going downhill at 25mph. It actually takes a lot less pedal to stop in the car in all situations, makes driving an old car a little more fun i think. I did steel brake lines and swapped to a larger master cylinder at the same time, and it was great. for added stopping power, i used metal master pads, which i think helped with the fade issue some. Dont know if drilled rotors do very much, I run some right now, (brand unknown, got them off a parts car) and the only thing i can notice is that they make this great cheese grater noise when i hit the brakes. On this car i use stock system, with steel lines and new friction materials, it does stop ok, but I do know its limits, and may do the solid rotor 4 piston upgrade once again, it really does take 20 minutes once the car is jacked up!
  23. hey im never in this forum, but wondering if anyone had info on 5.0 engine into 240sx. just tried searching internet and hybrid for info seems like no body does it and i wonder why? if a z can swallow one whole and the rear suspension lives, a 240sx will romp with one i think. anyways, this is the next project im getting into, ill be dropping a 5 liter mustange engine and t5 into my buddies 90 sx over the winter school break, hopefully getting it to run by or before the first day of 2004 car is running jdm 4.08 lsd r200 rear, tein coilover setup, and will have 300zxtt brakes next week. (bolt on for these cars, similar to doing a toyota solid rotor swap, except you end up with 12.5 inch slotted rotors instead) we have the driveline, just need to make up mounts, and using off road fms harness to fuel it, e303 cam, and some minor mods before install, nothing crazy though. goal is to get factory flywheel hp to rwhp, so i guess tahts 225/300, which should be good for time being. we want the first v8 240sx drift machine, and all info would be greatly appreciated, thanx.
