What needs to be underscored is that a brake system need only be sized large enough to dissipate heat generated without exceeding it's maximum capabilities during it's intended use. Not of any lesser importance, is the proper setup, balance, smooth-firm function, and proper friction material choice. Engagement needs to be smooth and linear. Release needs to be smooth and linear. Pedal feel should translate to the driver exactly where the tires are in their "grip". The driver should be able to "find" the right pedal pressure and adjust his foot pressure to where it needs to be at every point during the braking manouver; consistently. Performance braking is NOT pushing down on the pedal as hard as you can and then releasing it all at once. You need to be able to "drive" the brakes....modulation. Performance driving is more like a Ballet than a game of Football.

What do you guys think VICTORY RED 240z?
cygnusx1 replied to wickiewicked240z's topic in Body Kits & Paint
You cant go wrong with classic Ferrari red "Rosso Corsa" or Porsche Gaurds Red. Either one is hot. I prefer the less orange, Ferrari red. Red Z's look VERY nice when you also black out all the chrome and steel trim. I do color calibrate my monitor. -
Dont worry we all drive like fools. It is definitely not easy getting consistent lap times. I will pick a server tomorrow night at 8 eastern and post is above. I would practice Monza as we all seem to know that one best. We are trying to host Watkins Glen eventually. Just when you think you mastered a track, throw in some competition and traffic....forget it. It's like starting over. NOTE: You need to upgrade to the latest patch and register in the game to race online.

I was just looking at the "users on line" thing...

Yes I sit at a darned desk all day unless I need to go get coffee or take a nature break. HybridZ keeps me awake. -
OK yes tons of tuning. Pretty much everything that you would adjust on a real race car and more. Caster, camber, toe, tire compound, compression, rebound, swaybars, wing/splitter angles, air ducts, brake bias (in-car), spring rates, ride heights, tire pressures, ballast, fuel load, seat positions back forth up down, all the gear ratios individually, lmited slip clutch adjustments in different directions......yada yada. You name it. And it all correlates to real world derived physics. The sounds are also worth mentioning. You can hear everything that happens around you and you can see whats going around in the mirrors and you can turn your head to look around. Want more details: http://www.bhmotorsports.com/file/14398 Thanks to Tom Johnson <---This guide applies to REAL racing as well.

I am using the Nascar Pro Force Feedback wheel. It is a fairly old wheel but it has really nice feedback as to what the car is doing. I can easily feel the front end hitting chicanes and losing traction. With the feedback I feel in the wheel, I can counter act with the gas/brake pedals to keep the weight transfers where they need to be. It works very well and is very realistic. I consider it so real that it is "Training" for the real thing.

OK we are going to start "track nights": Thursday: 8pm eastern Saturday:10pm eastern Until we get a fixed server figured out, the server will vary and I will post it here as an edit before the rounds. If you can, put an (HBZ) in front of your driver name so we know you are from HybridZ. Generally you can join the server for Practice and Qualifying, not during a race so be patient. We will always play in "Simulator" mode. Hit TAB on the keyboard to display drivers name tags during the races. I will be (HBZ)CygnusX1. SERVER FOR TONIGHT IS: XXXXXXXXXXXX

I measured one of mine while i had them apart and got about 0.0005" diameter difference between the bore and the top piston. I can't tell you the accuracy of that measurment because technically it's outside the precision of the vernier that I used. I should have used a micrometer but didn't have one handy. You might want to check them with eachother to see if one is worn or damaged. Is the cold weathermaking it worse? Try thinner oil.

Since I've upgraded to the AZC brakes on all four corners, I have begun to experiment with trail braking on quiet backroads up here in the sticks. I'll tell you that with the good stock brakes on my 280Z the car was squirrily under braking which did not inspire confidence. I think the confidence level that comes from good brakes has alot to do with how late and how you brake. A lot of it is mental. At Watkins Glen last Summer (with the AZC brakes), the instructor commented that he liked the way I was using the brakes. I can tell you that with the old brakes, he would not have said that. Maybe it's due to the hardware or maybe it's just my brain (software) trusts the AZC brakes more.

******************************************************** TONIGHTS GTR2 SERVER IS: a rochester glen server featuring Watkins Glen Long ******************************************************** A few of us here have been getting together online to race on GTR2 in the evenings. We usually run Skype in the background on a conference call so we can talk to eachother as we race and coordinate races. So far we have had four members that have run together. With a force feedback steering wheel and a few days of practice, this simulator get's your heart rate and adrenaline pretty high. If anyone else plays GTR2 or would like to. Post here and we will coordinate some track nights. We are trying to figure a way to get a private server at the moment. The game sells at most stores for about $19.00 and is worth every cent. Read about it: http://www.bhmotorsports.com/GTR2

Well, I'm glad someone else was able to corroborate my experience. I really found more power after "cleaning" the hydraulics. I thought maybe it was just psychological but it really feels better, and starts up better. I am going to add your torque info to my list above. Thanks.

I bought mine in 1989. '76 280Z with 69K miles, little or no rust, dealer maintained (Bob Sharp Nissan), $3500 in New York City, all original except radio, and nice budget paint job. Since then...I havent really done much to it, except...totally changed...brakes, suspension, transmission, engine, wheels, bumpers, paint ..... a few times each that's all.

I can't believe people are STILL trying these scams..

Chen Guangyuan was soooo lonely while you were AFK. -
Email him about the Batman thing...I bet it got lost in translation somehow...or maybe he drank too much of that French wine.

Bad News for my Motor, internal damage :(
cygnusx1 replied to 240hoke's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
The dimples on the head match the ones on the piston and they only occur where the raised part of the piston came up to the head indicating interference. It definitely looks like it was a BB or a ball bearing. Not detonation. You can probably calculate with some accuracy the sized of the FOD and the number of revolutions that it took to get it out. It came in from one valve and followed the edge of the bore wall, bouncing it's way over to the exhaust valve and out. You were pulling lateral G's at the time which kept it to one side of the bore....hmm. -

I noticed a few QAM tuner cards HD capable but I wanted compatibility with MCE2005 and I don't get OTA HD so I figured the cool HD channels are encoded anyhow. They wouldn't be able to record to the hard drive even with QAM decoding, so I wait patiently for technology to catch up to us.

My TV cards are only analog so they dont record HD That's why I use the S-Video. I do have component connection directly to the DLP TV from one of the cable boxes so I can watch HD directly on the TV. If I record HD on the PC, it is in standard definition widescreen. Yes, I do have the darned 1" underscan issue too with everything that comes out of the PC. I have my video card drivers set to 1280x720 32bit but I still get the underscan. It doesn't bother me too much. My only wish was that someone would make a PCI card that accepted CableCard technology so that I could record fully digital and HD onto my PC. I beleive there is one manufacturer working on this already. When it comes out, I will send my set-top-boxes back to the cable company and order two CableCards from them instead. My cable company currently offers CableCards for $1.50/month! If you are an HTPC guy...this should get you excited. http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2662&p=2

I like it! Is it black or charcoal metallic?

Well I just finished building a Media Center PC using the left over parts from my old dead PC and a few new parts. I am using Win MCE 2005 as the operating system. The PC looks like a piece of stereo equipment under my TV set. Here are the specs. AMD 64 3500+ 2gigs DDR Cas2 2-5-2-2 RAM Two 120Gig Drives in RAID-0 Config A8N-SLI Motherboard A single 7800GT Video Card. nVidia Dual TV Tuners Two digital cable boxes controlled by the PC. 1 MCE Remote Control TV is a 50" Samsung DLP and the sound system uses Axiom M60 Theater Speaker system with an Onkyo Amp/Receiver. If you are looking for "budget" speakers with a $10,000 sound I highly recommend the Axioms. Made in Canada and only available online. This is a photo of the old setup which was not a media center PC. I absolutely love the functionality of this thing. All my MP3's, Photos, Videos, Weather, Live TV, Timeshifted TV, recorded TV (two channels at the same time if needed!), XM Radio, FM Radio, DVD Cataloging, WMHD Videos....I could go on and on. There are also tons of other features I still need to explore like TV-Tonic which is about 250 free, independant, online video channels including a bunch of car based shows. The keyboard and mouse go away and the entire thing works with a remote control from the couch. It's connected to the dual cable boxes via s-video and the sound goes out of the PC to the THX Receiver via TOSLINK (fiber optic) for Dolby 5.1+ support. Oh and the two doorways on the back wall lead to the babyroom. He is due via c-section on January 15th!!!

If you look at the bosch ones, the electrode is shrouded by the tabs. On the Golden lodge original version from 30+ years ago, the electrode is WIDE open. -
