  1. ROFL! Some good info up there Pop N We may need to move from the wind tunnel to the chassis stiffness testing jig some day. Adding a 240, 260 and 280 to the test. Then we can figure out how much additional weight it takes to make a 240 as stiff/strong as a 280. It may not even be an issue...but than again, it might.
  2. Its chilly here today so I want to light a fire. Hopefully not a flame war. It is well known that the 280Z shell is heavier and stiffer than a 240Z shell. Why do more people seem to hybridz with the 240 shell. I mean once you start with the lighter 240Z shell and add some stiffening, you are probably approaching the weight and stiffness of the 280Z shell. Aren't you? The 280Z's are a bit easier to find and might be less rusty. Of course this assumes that both cars are going to be stripped and the "fat" left off of the 280Z such as the bumpers, the insulation, the A/C and all the other fattening in the 280Z. Room for civil discussion.
  3. Take a look at my gallery link in my signature. I think there are some shots.
  4. Has anyone gotten this damper yet? How is it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Pro-Products-Powerforce-Damper-70-83-Nissan-L28-L20_W0QQitemZ260072858563QQihZ016QQcategoryZ46098QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
  5. Very good thread here. I think this is the first thread that Iv'e seen that deals with how an interior cage could tie into the nose of the car. I always try to visualize how to get the front bars through the firewall and where to come through. This thread answers that basic question. Nice work. All this talk about bars on Friday makes me thirsty. Mmmmm. Tanqueray and Tonic coming right up!
  6. I have some shady neighbors. They only come out at night type of neighbors...windows shades always shut...not seen for weeks at a time. One day I got a box at my front door and opened it. It was a box full of Bikini Ladies Wrestling tapes. I looked at the address...whoops. Not mine. It was theirs. It was about 30 pounds worth of Ladies Wrestling tapes! UPS does screw up sometimes. Maybe they were afraid to deliver it directly to their house. Insurance should help you out if you had it through UPS. It's still a huge hassle. Good luck.
  7. Beautiful car. Sell the drivetrain and drop in an LS1. This is HybridZ after all. It will be crazy F-king fast.
  8. http://www.a2zracer.com/page2.html Check out the '81, '82, and '83 " The biggest development of the car was trying to get the power down to the real wheels. The early 280ZX GTU homologated rear spoiler was not adequate. We started adding Lexan extended rear lips to it, until it finally became a full blown extended spoiler in the later development of the car. This truly trapped the air as the early Can Am cars were able to do. It became an infamous competitor, challenging the twin turbo Porsche cars in the later races. Oh what fun it was to do that! The car became a major contender in overall positions of IMSA races, embarrassing many GTP prototype cars. We always used the Number 83 on all the cars I drove with Don. It was his lucky number coming from his early racing of Datsun cars."
  9. Whatever tire you buy DO NOT buy Goodyear. I have alwyas had bad luck with Goodyears. Feathering, noisy, and vague. I have had three sets on two different cars before I vowed never again. I had the Eagles and the Eagle F1's. Those sportmax wheels look nice. Are they 3pc? and are they light?
  10. The downpipe is ugly but it works for your goals. Trust me, build it exactly how you are doing it and you will be happy with the performance until a Diablo or a C6 beats you. Then you will want more. Eventually you can stuff the L28ET in a lightweight 240Z and really feel it!
  11. First replace the fusible link then connect the battery correctly. Next see if the car starts. If not, check fuses and relays with a meter. I think I did the same thing once on my 76Z but it was so long ago that I have no idea what happened. It could not have been that bad if I dont remember though.
  12. Are you leaving the Z community?
  13. Oh nothing it was just a trojan.
  14. It were a foot race I would beat you all there. Those cars are practically in my backyard! I already took fresh kill on ebay though $530 for my 83 Turbo ZX! Driven right to my house by the seller too! Good luck you guys on this one. See what new york does to datsuns!? Yuck.
  15. LS1 Twin Turbo sounds very tasty. Hope it all works out for you. Very creative. I am not a welder but can you weld steel to cast?
  16. This is my L28ET with 2.5" all the way back from the turbo and a straight-through Magnaflow at the rear. Inside, it sounds exactly like 510six's car. 17. My Z has never been off the road for more than a couple of days in 18 years except while in paint jail and while swapping the L28 with the L28ET.

    Exhaust Note

I like Magnaflow mufflers. Lots of choices.

    Exhaust Note

What motor are you asking about? An L24 and an L28ET have completely different exhaust characteristics. On the L28ET, use a 2.5" or 3" from the turbo all the way back. Leave it wide open and stick a straight-flow-thru-glasspack or muffler at the tail. I have 2.5" all the way back with a 2.5" Magnaflow straight-thru muffler at the tail and a resonator exhaust tip. It has a mellow note inside the car. If you are using an L28 non-turbo, you will need another muffler about 4" past the header collector under the floor to mellow it out. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/8e0786c4-827b-40cc-9168-98c1013e2c45.htm
  20. Sounds too good to be true...but you know what you are doing so good luck. Send pics!
  21. Make the heat sheild at least 1/16" thick and put creases to stiffen it. Also you may want to cover it with heat reflective matting/insulation with fixed with rivets. It's biggest enemy will be vibration and cracking. Use stainless if you can.
  22. How guilty do you feel stealing that car? I can help ease the pain. Give it to me. LOL. Nice find.
