I bought Ron's old machined 225mm flywheel. I think he had it down to around 14lbs or so. Ron am I right? Anyway, I run it on my 240Z with the L28 bonestock, with triples, and headers. It will never see anything past 6000 in this config, so it should be OK. I run the Fidanza on the turbo car. I love the effect of the light flywheels, it really fits my style of driving.

I wonder if that car was hit while parked. Just a thought. I would just look for cracked lugs, sensors, broken studs...unusual leaks around the motor if possible.

That was the motor that my friend and I were in the process of fitting to a 72 Ventura when the project ended due to us splitting away for college. Never got back to it. At least we had finished the Z build beforehand. That motor is big and heavy but torque it makes.

On the pesky, tiny, rubber vaccum lines in the 280Z's, that keep splitting at the ends where they fit onto a Tee or coupler. You keep cutting the split end off and it cracks again next week. Get some silicone RC fuel line, slip it OVER the end of the vacuum line and then get a slightly larger Tee or coupler that fits the silicone fuel line...no more splits!

Is that hood emblem reset into the hood? Looks cool! Nice modern touch.

I like the last photo...now imagine the Z in that position from December 15th until sometime in late March or April. It get's painful right about now. Especially since I can't even open the doors to the garage that hold the Z's, and haven't seen them in over five weeks. Nice snowstorm though!

Lunar landers use Mylar foils. I used aluminum foil. Next time you need to mask wires and tubes for painting, try it. It's 1,000,000 times better than tape and paper. Oh yeah I have another engine bay now....update.

I read one of his books about driving techniques about 20 years ago. The information is still burned into my brain. I remember him writing about steering to match the undulations in the surface. As the bumps load the car he could steer in, and steer out on the down side of the bump. That is some hi-res driving!

We have the same sausage stuffer! My dad spun up a stainless steel tube for ours about 20 years ago. He is now retired, and we don't have access to a machine shop. Try a local machine shop.

Every single storm we have, I clear a path from the house to the woodpile. It's one of the most important paths. Of course the generator in the garage is pretty important too. I am running low on wood but I should have enough to ride out the Winter. I never use the last few days supply. I'll save it for a surprise power outage from surprise ice storms that sneak up as late as April. So far all of my wood has been harvested from my property. If we don't get any trees down this Winter, I may need to buy some wood.

My rule is if you take a beer out of the snow, put one back in its place.

When it hits 45, I'll put on shorts and a t-shirt and go tanning in the yard. Carve a lounge chair in the snow with a cupholder that keeps my drinks cool.

Last weekend I went to visit an engineer buddy of mine and he gave me a tour of the shop he works in. It's a NASA contract shop and some of the stuff in there was absolutely amazing. They run a cooling routine to test flight equipment at low temperatures. The cooling chamber is about 40 foot diameter and about 4 stories tall. They were in the process of bringing the temperature in the chamber down to 7 degrees Kelvin. I'll do the conversion for you....that's -446.8 ºF. It takes 30-60 days to get it down that low using liquid helium. They also had a subwoofer to test flight equipment for vibration durability during launch. It used a horn subwoofer with a mouth about 12 foot in diameter, in a room the size of a movie theater standing on end. Impressive stuff. Photography was politely discouraged so I don't have anything to show.

Wow I need a seat at that bar right now. I just got off my roof because one of the rooms in my house began smelling like wet wood. That is never good. I had to take a hatchet and bust up a few channels in the ice dams. We got the worse case scenario here. Freezing rain and melting temps with 2' of snow on the roof...and tonight it will go down to 15 degrees. The house is taking a serious beating. I have been in this house for 15 years and never once considered Southern Cali as a place to live, but I am now thinking about the Southwest. I am at the end of my rope. An entire bag of calcium chloride on my driveway made zero difference to the ice crust. There is about 3/4" of ice covering the entire driveway, and everything else, and I cannot move it. On a positive note...the Z shed is still standing and we still have power.

If you must sleep in the Z, find a dune or a mound. Run the front wheels up the hill to get a nice steep angle. Lay the seats back as far as they go and you got a decent place to sleep.

Z's make a stylish camping vehicle. They have tons of room for gear in the hatch. Besides you only have two campers and can probably carry enough gear for three or four campers. I have been camping many times with the Z, both week long and weekend trips were great. I even did a 2 person, windsurfing-camping trip, 800 miles away, for a week. That requires a LOT of gear...and a roof rack.

My turbo car has the POR15 engine paint on it but my 240Z block has the exact same Duplicolor that you used. It has held up well so far. Not as durable as the POR but a much better value.
