Are you going to have to take the intake off whenever you want to open the hood?

The "rumor" about Silvermine comes straight from the Z Power Steering site, but it isn't necessarily wrong. I believe Silvermine uses an EZ-Steer kit to make their units. Those are designed for ATVs that weigh more than most Zs and experience a lot rougher roads than a car does. They likely don't have the factor of safety of an OEM automotive unit like the ZPS, but it's up to you if that matters. I have seen multiple people who run the Silvermine kit on track and have never seen a complaint, and the EZ-steer kits get used on street rods a lot. If there were an issue with the SM units, I would have expected to see some firsthand accounts of failure online, but I've never even heard secondhand of one having issues. Here's a discussion we had years ago about delay with these units. Interestingly, the only complaints were about force-sensing units. The GPS is also only necessary if your car is stock without an electronic speed signal. I'm not sure how your car is setup, but with a VSS signal, there would be no chance for lag. If you have an aftermarket ECU, you could even setup a custom assist curve if you wanted.

Are you going to remove the metal beneath the carbon skins?

Fast Floridian's 240Z Track Build
calZ replied to FastFloridian's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Flatout got a set of control arms that were made too narrow and don't fit. Apex seems to have been sending things very slowly lately and then having a low rate of good parts when they do send them. -
I've noticed that refreshing the page when it hangs seems to help. I can go down the main page and open new tabs with all the threads with updates, and some will load right away while others won't. I refresh the ones that don't load, and then they seem to come up. It isn't a 100% success rate because sometimes they fail to load again, but it's almost like some queries get lost and sending them again kicks the server into gear.

Welcome! Always great to have a new member and another project. What kind of modifications are you planning?

The tire temp data is great! That's high level race team stuff.

Does anyone remember a member with the username that contained "Nivlac"?
calZ replied to pparaska's topic in Non Tech Board
Looks like around 2010 he was drag racing a Z. If I had to guess just based on how forums (especially this one) used to go, he probably shared some of his videos here and got flagged for that. -
It's doing it today. It's never been this bad for me before, but I see what you mean now.

Catch me up the last six years of how to Z community the internet
calZ replied to tim.d's topic in Non Tech Board
If you donate to the site you'll then be able to post FS threads. That said, FB Z groups are the big thing now. Craigslist and ebay also still work, but marketplace and group posting get the most eyes on it in my experience. -
Seems fine to me. Must have just been an intermittent issue.

Can the L28E start and run without a dashboard?
calZ replied to Mitchel0407's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Older S30s won't charge without the dash either. The exciter wire runs through the ammeter. -
Progress on my insane VQ35HR 240Z project
calZ replied to markrolston@mac.com's topic in Nissan V6 Forum
One of the best builds ever on the site. I'll be sad if this is the final update, but I have a feeling it won't be. There's always something to fix or change! -
Tap the arrow on the drop down ad and it will collapse. Then just scroll down. I too lament how prevalent ads are on the internet these days, but Dan has to pay for the server somehow. I like the membership idea. The merch campaigns always bring in a ton of money, but that takes a lot of work from whoever is organizing it.

You might want to add some reinforcement to that trans mount. I know it's thick metal, but all the force is going through the weakest axis of the metal with the way you've got it.
-
Ah, you meant the pattern specifically. I was so focused on the bottom bolsters that I misspoke anyway. They're LX, not LS.

Those are Recaro LSB seats. Made 70s-90s and were available in a bunch of different makes overseas (BMW/VW/Ferrari etc), but in the US they came in the Mk2 VW Golf.

I can tell just by the page name that it is a big old scam, but I'll go check anyway. Went and checked: 1. The page was made in October. Scam 2. Patrick Reynolds just made his account Nov 27 and posted a bunch of pictures that same day. That's also sign of a scam. 3. Eddy Watson, the other admin, posted a bunch of brand new photos from different time periods all on the same day in the middle of October. Third sign of a scam. 4. Probably the biggest and most glaring clue other than the page age is that every single parts post that Patrick Reynolds makes has a different background. Different tables, different floors, different trees if it's outside. That's because they're all stolen pictures.

Paint design selection. opinions wanted
calZ replied to A to Z's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Your car is already going to be pretty bold with the picture frame hood and the fully polished engine bay, so maybe it would be good to lean into that and go bold everywhere with the two tone. It might be on theme. -

I like the first picture where the hood and flares/skirts are black and the rest of the car is a color. I really dislike the top/bottom two tone in the other pictures. To me, it looks like those cars where guys put muscle car-style wheels, a cowl induction hood, and metal flake paint on a 240Z and try to make it look like a Camaro. That's a paint job for a classic pickup imo. I don't think it fits the car at all. That said, it's just my opinion. We all have different tastes. It's your car and you're the one that's going to see it every day. If you like the look and it makes you happy, then that's what matters. -
I can't tell from the tape what you're doing. Cutting a hole in the center of the hood for clearance? Making the hood into a donut or a U?
-
Your work looks great. There isn't as much activity here anymore, but some of us are still watching closely. I really like the battery bracket. The more spread out the support is, the more secure you can make the battery without damaging it. I've always disliked the common OEM-style hold down bar.
-
Oh I know, I just meant that most people only speak when they've got a good answer, and there are fewer people around now, so you're going to get fewer answers. It does suck how little activity there is these days. A lot of the experts aren't around anymore.

A COMPLETE EARLY MODEL 240Z BODY may be available soon
calZ replied to toolman's topic in Body Kits & Paint
There's a shop near me that has been advertising pre-buys for these bodies(and others). I get the impression that they're working with the manufacturer. -
I answer questions whenever I've got a good answer, but I haven't tried enough different sealers to be comfortable risking your engine on my recommendation.
