  1. Clive, You're not there helping yet??
  2. Well now that I have Dale's old car the second thing I have done is to upgrade the wheels and tires with new 350Z wheels I'll start the front 5 lug swap and get some pictures as soon as I can. Joe
  3. If you use the 240 islators in the rear it will lower the rear of the car about 2 inches.

    m30 diff

I have an M30 diff in the garage. It does have the abs sensor on the top of the diff just behind the pinion flange. To me i doesn't look like it would interfere with anything.as long as the driveshaft flange matches, it should be a bolt in. Joe
  5. :hail::hail:The man never ceases to amaze me. Congrats Tim! When is the next garage cleaning? Joe
  6. I went through this a few years ago and addressed everything that could cause it with the exception of the turbo because the turbo was new. Yep, it was the turbo. Pretty easily detected too once I stopped being stubborn. Drop the downpipe and look inside the hot side with a flashlight. If the seal is leaking you will see oil residue in there. Mine started out the same as yours but got progressively worse over time. I'd try to drop the downpipe after a decel when it smokes. It will be hard to do because it's gonna be hot as hell but will be the best way to tell. Joe
  7. I didn't go down past the first page so I don't know if anyone answered what the grooves are. They are known as Singh grooves. http://www.somender-singh.com/ . They are suppose to help detonation and from the pictures, he needs all the help he can get! Actually, this is something I intend to try myself with a spare head I have lying around. Turn up the boost so I hear slight pinging then swap on a head that is grooved and see how much more boost i can dial in without changing anything else. I just looks further down the thread. He has more issues than detonation! Joe
  8. Where in Jersey are you? Bring it up and lets put the welder to it!
  9. This post should put to rest any question as to why Rick's daily driver is a 2002 Lexus IS300 - Turbo 2JZ, 6-speed - daily driven monster and he is in the process of putting a 260ci Twin Turbo Buick Stage II in "Porkchop"! Rick, I guess they won't let you strap into one of those vertical flyers, huh?
  10. ^ Bwwwaaaahaaahaahhhh!! Happy birthday Big Guy!
  11. Or, to do it without a pump, you can get a piece of 1/2" copper tubing about 3 feet long with a 90 degree fitting on one end. The 90 goes into the trans with the lengh of pipe going up through the engine comartment. From there you can insert a funnel into the pipe and fill with gear lube. It takes a while but it works.

    3.0 944?

I think your in uncharted territory here. That being said I hope you can make it happen! Do you have a specific 3 liter Porsche engine in mind? Didn't some have balance shafts? Get the measuring tape out and see what fits and where the problem areas are. Obvoiusly the transfer case is an issue, but looking at that picture it might just be do able. Oh and lookng at your avatar I'm assuming you are talking about putting thins in an S30, right?
  13. I don't think setting the pick up to read off a cam sprocket will work on an engine where the cam is spun via a chain that is lubricated with engine oil. Wouldn't the oil have the tendency to reduce the ability of the sensor to accurately sense where the teeth are?
  14. Very cool. The triplets are on there (cars, not the girls )
  15. Since I have gone the other direction and put a Q45 carrier in a long nose, I see no reason why a Quaife wouldn't work in Q45 diff. Joe
  16. Might be completely unrelated but I had the same problem after swapping a trans. My problem turned out to be the input shaft not being machined the same as the input shaft on the old trans. The end of the shaft that goes into the pilot bushing was not as long as the old trans so it would drag on the pilot bushing. The way I found this was by loosening the trans to engine bolts, then the clutch would disengage. I pulled the trans out and measured the length of the small diameter of the input shaft and there was a difference. A very small difference but there was a difference. I guess I could have just tried to push the pilot busing in a little further but decided to change it. After I changed it, no more clutch problem. Oh and yes, I did have the trans in and out a few times. Even put the old one back in to make sure I wasn't going crazy!
  17. Thanks for the replies, guys. I was able to see a few heads that had the process already completed (S2000 head and a VR6 head), neither had the combustion chamber done as it didn't look anything like the intake and exhaust runners. What I think I'm gonna do is port match the head myself and also try to smooth out some of the top of the exhaust runners and then have the extrudehone done. I'm also thinking of cutting a Singh grove in each combustion chamber as well as tapping the water jacket above 5 and 6. The way I'm looking at it is if it doesn't work, I'm only out the price of the extrudehone and a P90.
  18. Guy's, I just found a new machine shop in town that wants to Extrude hone one of my P90's to see what it would do for a turbo l6. I'm very leary as I have not seen anyone here do this to a head, only manifolds. I'd like to get some opinions on wether this will be worth the dollars or should I just pass. The price wouldn't even be half of what is on the Extrudehone web site for the level 2 process (port matched before the process is done). Opinions? Joe
  19. As Greg said, the quick ratio shifter sits up higher and the stop plates will hit the console. What I did with mine (Pro 50) was to turn the stop plate upside down so it clears the console. The stops won't work like this but you still have the quick ratio. Just don't slam gears like this or your going to break roll pins like you would with the stock shifter. Joe
  20. Just ordered a few. Great work Yashin! Now has anyone found a source for the tiny seal that is inside the speedo gear housing? You can only see it if you push out the roll pin and take the gear out of the housing. I figured it would have been an O ring but there is a seal in there!
  21. I think a compression test is going to be key here. I hope I'm wrong but what you are describing soinds like crushed ring lands. Was the car modified for more boost? Joe
  22. So, who's on a waiting list? I inquired at 4 dealers in my area and put myself on the lists. Very doubtful that I will get called as the lists are pretty long and the first person on each list has put down a hefty deposit. I'm surprised I haven't seen any of the big dollar car track guys on this site looking to trade up. Joe
  23. You guys were in the garage last night and I sat around here doing nothing?? Not feeling the love! All kidding aside, let me know when your going to be woring on it again. I'd love to give a hand. Joe
  24. Dave, One thing to think about when mounting the trigger wheel is where it will be secured to the balancer. You'll want to mount it inboard of the isolation ring. I went crazy troubleshooting ignition for a friend of mine before finding the triggerwheel was ouboard of the isolation ring which was slipping! I had my balancer turned the thickness of the trigger wheel and secured it to the backside of the balancer. Joe
