Full 12v at coil while running?
-
when you install the cam you should check the wipe pattern on every lobe .I used 1 of those permanent maker black felt pens and covered the top of the whole rocker arm with the marker.Install the rocker and turn the motor over by hand. Then remove the rocker and see where the ink is worn off.I know this by much misery.

borg super t10 or muncie rock crusher 4 speed.most 4 speed and 5 speed gear boxes are 1to1 in 4th gear.the old american 4 speeds will have external shift linkages-as in hurst shifter with external rods.

I have a 280 crank out of a turbo engine that is good-just needs stock bearings.Send me a pm if you want it

With all the mods to the unit body to handle the new suspension systems how do you plan to maintain or increase torsional rigidity of the unit body?Seems to me the suspension mountaing point will have to be tierd into some kind of cage?

When i put the odessey battery in back on my car I ran a negative cable from the battery to a mounting bolt on the starter. Both positive and negative cable are 0 gauge welding cable with soldered on eyes.the ecm for the efi is also mounted in back of the car and is wired directly to the battery-there is just a key on signal from a connector under the steering column that wasnt being used after removing the old efi system.I didn not want to depend on the old z wiring.

Run the timing at 20.the timing curve is programmed into the ecm.You can test the difference between a temp sender and a chts with an ohmeter and a pot of hot water.some of the l series engines had lower thermostat housings the coud be drilled and tapped for 2 sensors.my car has the stock temp sensor for the gauges and a gm sensor for my aftermarket efi system. All of the threads are standard pipe thread-you can by taps at a hardware store. If you are running the oem 77 injectors you are running lean.If you are going to run this setup for awhile I would get some new injectors.Used injectors wont flow evenly across a set of 6 and a lean cylinder will preignite.I ran complete 81zxt engine/computor in my 77 for a long time.It ran very well. But when I installed it I replaced the injectors and other iffy parts while doing the install. After the install had the bugs ran out of it it was fun to drive-not alot of peak horsepower but it made boost very fast and had good torque.

I have always wanted to get 2 13b motors at pick&pull and see what it would take to put them together. On a track day at thunderhill there was a fd model rx7 with a 20b 3 rotor running and that engine sounded like a F1 engine-it had plenty of power with no turbo. In southern california the sand rail guys use turboed 20b's in 1800lb sand rails-600 hp no problem. The length of the z car engine compartment makes engine swaps easy.

distributor 1981 and 1983 (Pics added)
randy 77zt replied to corolla turbo's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
was the 83 engine a turbo charged engine?that would explain the difference.just use the 81 dizzy in the 83 motor.you might have to swap the oil pump shaft too.the 83 turbo dizzy was used with efi controlled ignition. -
no-but you need some sort of power transistor to fire the coil.diyefi has 1 or you can use an old 4 pin gm hei module.I used the MS to fire the original turbo coil/ignitor assembly. The MS website has lots of wiring diagrams-problem is (to me) that the info is kind of spread out on the website. There is also a bosch ignitor that will work.

I have an odessey pc925 that is mounted under the rear package tray in my 77.No problems and the battery is about 1/2 the weight of a standard group 24 battery.I bought it from johnc who is a member of this site.I got some 0 size welding cable and some copper eyes and built my own cables.I ran 1 cable from the battery ground side to a mounting ear on the starter + a ground to the body.

Vortec 383 horsepower guesses?
randy 77zt replied to Jasonmreiss's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I would guess at 350 -400 hp but with good low end torque.but it is more fun to drive a car with torque than an over-cammed engine that falls on its face when you stab the throttle.I think either Car Craft or Hot rod uses a place called westech in socal.I have spent a day there with a friend while he was getting a boat engine dynoed.they run alot of engines there and the operator knows his stuff.my buddy had a 555" short deck big block chevy built for a jet boat that made 802 hp on 91 chevron pump gas.that wasnt a cheap motor. -
To bad you were not around here today .60 degrees and sunny.I am only 70 miles from Yosemite and the gold rush country.

I saw that posted somewhere else.It looked to me like his panhard bar or rear track bar broke loose. The short wheelbase makes things happen faster.
-
I have used mag wheel cleaner for open pore mag wheels with a wire brush. This stuff has an acid base and it foams up while working. Not everybody has a blast cabinet.I wish I did.
-
Also in brake pads and shoes + clutch discs.I have had more than my fair share.

When i first got my 77 in 1994 I did some tune up work on the stock l28.I installed some new injectors and soldered on new injector plugs. After that I built a new distributor out of 2 with a reworked timing curve.I removed the throttle body and cleaned it .then put on a slightly bigger exhaust with no cat-but i had flanges to reinstall the cat fast.the car ran very well -it would make 90 mph in a quarter mile. The stock exhaust manifilds dont flow that bad and usually dont leak.

Tire vs power and weight?
randy 77zt replied to vega's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Are we talking about a cold street tire or a racing slick on a track at normal warm operating temp?Yes i have spun off at infineon with cold tires in turn 2.I have installed wider low profile street tires on car for people(better looks) and the car had less traction on the street than with the old 60 series tires.Becauase my z is sprung stiff for a road course I run 215/60-15 at 25 psi on the street .the tires are acting as part of the suspension.I tried running my 225/50-15 kumho track slicks on an autocross couse once and I could not get them hot enough to work.My opinion is that the extreme low profile tire looks good but wont always get you the most traction in a daily driver street situation.Thats why drag radials have side walls on them-as the deform under torque the contact patch gets bigger. -
As you get older you realize that its the ergononmics of the bike that is more important than what it looks like.I have a 2002 yamaha fz1 that is a great bike. But after renting a bmw r1200gs for 2 days and test riding a ktm 990 adventure I am looking for a more upright riding position.Part of the problem is leg length.I wear 34" long pants and my legs feel like they are too cramped on any japanese motorcycles.Someitmes I dont get around to riding the fz1 for a couple of weeks and I am always surprised by the performance when I get off the bike. But i cant ride more than 200 miles a day on it.

I suspected some problems with my home brew hybrid t3/t4 turbo .the closest rebuilder does rebuilds turbos for aircraft. All of his rebuilds are balenced.I didnt think $500 for parts and labor was a bad price .

After watching that cheasy shipping wars show on A&E channel tonight and doing some google searching I learned alot-mostly bad.Alot of those guys with 1ton pick-ups and trailers dont have the proper licenseing, insurence, dot permits.the point-do your homework and hire a real car transport company.Make sure it will be the same company the whole route-not just dropping the car and handing it off to another company when they get to an area they dont want to go into.Even if its shipped it will probably changed from truck to another truck along the way..In 2007 I sold a 22" catamaran speed boat to a guy in Tom's River New Jersey.I live in central California. Some how i couldnt bring myself to trust anybody to do this job + I wanted to go to the bank and make sure I got a real cashier's check and not something off of a home printer. So I rented a ford expedition 4x4 from hertz .I towed the boat to jersey and flew home.i ended up using the 4x4 in wyoming in a snow storm.Left on a monday at noon and got to the guys house at 3am next friday.I went into Jersey at night on purpose-those people wont give you any room pulling a trailer back there and i wanted to avoid commute time.A little under 3000 miles and 200+ gallons of gas.but it was an adventure.

I would guess that you are going to get an awd g series sedan and gut it and do a complete drivetrain swap.Having that front subframe a bolt on could come in handy. My uneducated opinion is that part will have to be rebuilt to mate up to the subframe from the g sedan. The next problem is that modern cars are alot wider.I have thought about cutting a z down the middle to widen it for a different suspension

Has the engine been started with this oil pan?If not now is your chance-pull the pan and clean it .If you started the engine change the oil & filter-the damage is done.if the engine was started and you change the filter cut the old oil filter open to inspect it.
