i have a 1977 california no rust car thats been driven with a very stiff suspension for many years.no roll bars or non-stock stiffening other than a bar between the rear strut towers that my seat belts run to.if i go up a curb into a driveway at an angle to whole chassis flexes bady.to PROPERLY build a performance car out of an old rusty semi-functioning car would require more than just getting the car back to oem specs.you really need a flat work table with the unit body clamped to it to repair the car correctly.that holds the car true while you repair it.to make the car handle well with a good track suspension the unit body needs to be as stiff as possable.this is done usually by tying a roll cage into the strut towers.to really structure a car it would almost be better to cut the floor out of the unit body and drop it onto a tube frame/roll bar combo.because of the smog laws in cali you can get very good 76-78 z's cheap.they run and are complete but the owners get tired of trying to smog them every 2 years

randy 77zt replied to S30TRBO's topic in Non Tech Board
a local business man tried to get the crappy county i live (stanislaus county california)to ok a motorsports park on the east side of the county away from populated areas.even though modesto was voted to be a miserable place and we currently have %18 unemployment.so good luck-maybe east coast doesnt have as many granola munchers as cali -
the company has allready been paid for this-i work as a service tech to honor the service contract that they sold with the sweepers.and i dont really care if they cant project costs 5 years ahead.

comapny is based in socal-i live in norcal and get dispatched by computor.the truck stays at home with me.some weeks i am gone all week, another thing that kind of irks me is my expenses on the road .i have to pay for everything and turn in a report at the end of the week.they reimburse me usually in about 2 weeks.i really dont like churning about $2k a month thru my bank account.now the hr dept is saying they are only going to pay while on the jobsite or in between jobsites-not to and from my first and last jobs.problem is sometimes i drive 6 hours-stay overnight-work 2 hours-drive home.that means being gone for 2 days.if they tell me i am only going to get paid for 2 hours i will park thier 4x4 truck somewhere real good .

Fined for being a gross polluter in a S30?
randy 77zt replied to thewaiverproject's topic in Non Tech Board
there is an 800 number you can call and turn in the license # of a car if you see it smoking.i think they end up getting sent for a smog test or a trip to the referee or something like that.to me this sounds like a good pratical joke to do on somebody that pisses you off-like that redneck in the hopped up dodge cummins truck that just cut me off-and lays down a huge smoke cloud -
my employer had me classified as an exempt salaried employee.but i am far from that.i work from my house driving thier service truck.i work as a mobile service technician on the equipment they sell.now they dont want to pay for my driving time.typical day-drive 3 hours, work 2,drive back 3.they dont want to pay any overtime or time for driving to jobsites.i dont think this is legal.any opinions here?

the only good thing about california is the weather-its z time all the time
-
we have been having the wettest winter in years but the weather should be ok by the end of april.it is very green here-very nice.best bet is stay on hwy 1.the central valley(where i live) looks kind of flat like texas.and if you have any plant allergies you will go nuts.skip the convertable-the pacific ocean is cold because the ocean current brings water south from alaska.the water is cold on the beach-you usually see surfers in rubber suits.thats my opinion-goood luck on your trip.i was looking at a villa in tahiti in the net the other day to exchange for a week in a timeshare that i own in cabo.i dont like to share my hot tub. 0

vague 240Z handling after many mods
randy 77zt replied to vtdds71's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
70 series tires dont help-try running more pressure.how is the toe in in the rear suspension?you need to find an alignment shop that has a good laser alignment rack and a tech that knows what he is doing=but this will not be the $29.95 set-the-toe-and-let=it-go alignment.most shops dont like getting involved in this kind of stuff.when i used to be a tech at a dealership i used to set my z up for track days on a $45,000 hunter alignment rack.does the car track straight with out wandering at speed?the adjustment on the rack should not be tightened unless there is too much freeplay in the steering.if it is set tight the steering wont return well if it is too tight.i could not put 50 series or less tires on my car-with the track suspension i use my tires as part of the suspension because my springs are stiff. -
currently switching my ecm to a vipec v44 and a redo on the efi harness.then its off to the dyno

where i live they have these giant flea markits that sell lots of stolen stuff and pirated dvd;s .there is so much stuff there and so many people that the cops gave up on patrolling it.can you blame the cops=they are very out numbered at these places.they have people in bothes that hack phones.and they sell hacked dish network stuff.what ever happened to la migra in the puke green dodge vans?anyway thet should have an app that makes the phone explode or go up in smoke when you dial a number that you program into it.like that spy show back in the 60's where the tape went up in smoke after it was played
-
i dont sell much stuff but whenever i sell something i always email the buyer a tracking # the same day i ship it.

Smog legal LS1 conversion into a 1978 280z
randy 77zt replied to 1978_280z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
you will have to hook up an evap system but the 95 motor is obd1 and doesnt monitor the tank pressure.you could probably hook up the chevy evap valve to the nissan evap system-there is allready a metal line under the hood from the tank.the car keeps its oem vin #-you just get a new sticker in the door with a bar code the gets scanned when the car gets smogged.best bet is to study how and why the systems are designed`-the ref wants to see all the systems that the engine came with functioning.cat convertors are considered part of the chassis-as the original car was fitted with a heat shield under the trans-the cat has to go back in that space, the are a couple of 75-78 z's in the sf bay area that are certified ls motor swaps-they used the gas tanks from the camaros that the motors came from.car will most likely be sent to test only stations for tests. -

Tires, user input wanted
randy 77zt replied to Delasangre4231's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
i ran some yoko a008 way back when on my z.didnt like them on track-torched them quickly at infineon.so i run cheap tires on street and have a set of track tires.but since my suspension is very stiff in my car i run 15" wheels on the street.i run 215/60-15 tires at 25 psi-i am using the tires for part of the suspension work on the street.low profile tires look good but i am not really a fan for everyday use.
