ford diesel pick-ups have a vacuem valve.but the way the 77z hvac system is made you cant get heated air through the vents-its either through the floor or defrost.with me its need heat/defrost now or vent.i had a cable valve on the block about 6" behind the water pump.but when you run the engine hard you are pressurizing the heater core-i blew 1 at the track.i wanted the fewest loose parts.look in a napa catalog-there are many heater valves.

Look what i found, but is it an upgrade?
randy 77zt replied to rudypoochris's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
it is possable to get a carb to work like efi but its a lot of work.you need to have a carb with removable air bleeds and some kind of wide band 02 to tune it.my pic would be a ms efi with wide band 02 input.just use the ford efi hardware on the engine.old holley=leaky powervalve=gashog -
Come on Ford guys...please, please do this!
randy 77zt replied to Zerrari GTO's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
when i worked at ford dealer we got 1 of those mustangs in.close to gt40 motor but but i heard it was only 400 hp.had singe injector per cylinder.gt 40 has 2.but they rev very smooth.probably heavy. -
i put a brass hand valve in the cylinderhead.turn on in winter, turn off in summer.then i got 1 of those 5/8 heater hoses with molded 90 and a piece of bulk hose and connected direct to the heater core and shitcanned all old nissan stuff.

i had a 87 turbo coupe-it was a surprise for how quick it was with just good tune up and a injector cleaning.best stock motors were 87-88 turbo coupe-next was mustang svo.exhaust manifold uses t3 turbo.a megasquirt with edis wheel from a early 90's ranger truck would be a cool set up.exhaust is on rh side-no steering problems.i would just get some square tube and weld up a new crossmember to hold the engine up.then cut the mounts off of z crossmember.there are 2.5 liter engines-they were in 90's rangers.

gjc5500-if you need z info stop by my house some time-i am in modesto just off of 99.i have a 77 with turbo and megasquirt-but i have been working on z's for years.back in the day i used to put e88 head and su round tops on a l28 bottem end.made for a very strong running but simple car.if you build the carbs correctly and get a distributor with good advance curve car a early z run good with cheap set up.getting old nissan efi to work can possably take more time than setting up a modern efi system-you will end up spending time troubleshooting with old junkyard parts.i have some parts laying around.

stroker clutch kits - 6 puck sprung or unsprung?
randy 77zt replied to 24ounce's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
i wouldnt use a puck clutch on the street.the clutch will actually wear a gooove in the flywheel where the pucks run.i run act sprung 400hp street clutch with with thier heavy duty standard style clutch disc.i ran a oem daiken 240mm clutch for years and never really had a problem except it overheated and slipped at the drag stip once and on a dyno run with 15psi boost.but i cam back after cooling.car had many track days at sears point, thunderhill, laguna .on a na car i would run the daiken again-it was easy to drive in traffic. -
back in the day of the vw rabbit diesel -i used to work on those things.when these things didnt run good it was all about remove the mechanical injection pump and the injectors and sending to a diesel injection shop for testing /repair.the diesel injection shops have test stands for the pumps and injectors -to check fuel output and spray pattern.the nissan ld28 is good old mechanical injection-so if you found 1 of these motors and checked compression ok sending out the pump and injectors would be my first step.then reinstall with new timing belt.if advance the pump timing slightly you get more power.or a little more fuel at higher rpms.a turbo would have to have some major pump adjustment for extra fuel output on the injection pump.as far as wiring-a car stereo is harder to wire than a diesel engine swap.if enough parts or a complete 810 was around for the swap it would be very easy.

eec-e85 can be used for performance.you need some kind of programmable efi system, bigger injectors, and a fuel system that wont corrode from the e85.no aluminum-would need a coated tank, special fuel pump, stainless or nylon coated lines.new fuel pump for flex-fuel cars = +$800 .plus its not as efficient on fuel mileage.
-
eec564-you are correct on what gets checked.on obd2 cars the smog machine plugs into the dlc jack and scans the ecm for dtc's and the check the system monitors(egr, evap, cats, etc).some late model cars are having problems communicating with the smog machine-cars with CAN.controller area network-like tbirds, lincoln ls,some vw

there are different length sleeves that the throwout bearing rides on-i think its early 240 vs 280.i have a 240mm act clutch behind my turbo motor with a 280zx na trans and it works fine.make sure there is no air in the system.if the old clutch worked the new cltch should be ok.
-
n42 on a stock turbo bottem end gives about 8.3/1-works good if you have flat top pistons with n42 compression will a little high for a turbo.n42 valves are longer than p90 valves.na cam better than turbo cam -slightly.you probaly have enough parts to get running.

Hydrostatic Actuators? DEVAS? Where can I find more information?!?!?
randy 77zt replied to beren's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
with the electronics we have now computor operated valves would be ultimate in motor control.an engine smooth enough to take grandma to the airport but still rev to 12,000 rpm.plus the ecm controlled valves can do things for smog -like egr functions with no extra parts. -
the fast and dirty way out would be to leave the ign system alone and pick up tach signal from - side of the coil.since its a na car the stock efi does not connect to the ign system except for tach signal.i would ditch the old efi harness and get some injector connectors and sensor connectors and build a all new harness.you will spend more time in the end troubleshooting old junky nissan efi stuff.step into the 21st century-you can build your car as good as any new car with the correct parts.
-
i consider myself lucky i have has 2 engine swaps pass at the ref 1st time through.but 20+ years working on cars for a living helps.having a smog license helps-you know how the systems work.

i watched the miami vice dvd the other night and diddnt know what kind of boat they were using.so i punched it up on google and the boat showed up for sale on ebay.it was actually at a good price for a big boat.funny how movie vehicles float around.

seems like the military should have an attorney on retainer for this kind of sh^&.

look for a vacuem leak-if you have some kind of scanner where you can monitor short term fuel trim if you squirt carb cleaner around possable leaking spots you will see the stft pid change when you find the leak.obd2 will pic up a .040" vacuem leak.just a small thing like a hose clamp loose at the maf will pop a code.

car stolen from the base-most people would think the base would be secure enough to leave it parked with the keys in it.the insurence should pay sooner-i dont know why they are dragging thier feet.maybe you need a nasty letter from an attorney.insurence sucks-the take lots of money and then run when you need the help that you thought you paid for.a motorcycle rider buddy of mine got hit on his bike and its been 9 monthes to settle-with an attorney.if you need help finding a new z send email -i am unemployed and have time.

riding buddy needed for san felipe in march
randy 77zt replied to randy 77zt's topic in Non Tech Board
san felipe as in baja mexico norte-a small town 150 miles south of calixico.during an off road race its kind of like the wild west -it doesnt have to have license plates to be driven on the street.if you are a gearhead the friday before race day is the best show of all.everybody is lined up on mainstreet for tech inspection.so you get to look at the cars before they get dirty.plus cheap beer and fresh shrimp tacos.the sanctioning body for the races post the cousre map on thier website-if you want to go check it out its marked and you have a map and gps points-it makes riding easy. -
