  1. i have always thought about building a semi-tube chassis and ditching front inner structure-it would make more room for engine + stiffer car.
  2. stock nissan valves work fine.unless you are doing a high dollar build for an engine that makes over 500hp.be aware that p90 head uses slightly shorter valves than other z heads.if you are in the uk try courtesy nissan in texas for oem nissan stuff.i have a set of loose p90 valves laying around.
  3. i think my intercooler will get a coat of flat black paint to make it blend in better.i will have to talk to neighbors .he just graduated from chp school and is working in san jose.
  4. from testing my zxt engine it usually had high nox with out operating egr.if you lean it out nox will go up.hc is no problem with a well tuned engine and a cat convertor.but i think there is an extra programmable output on ms that could run a egr solonoid.an external speed actvated switch to kill the egr circuit and program the ms to switch the circuit depending on manifold vacuem and water temp.
  5. reading instructions on programming the innovate lc1-xd1 are critical to making it work. i am guilty of not reading instructions and expecting things to work-i dont mind wiring things up but i am not a software geek.but as soon as you get it synchronized with the ms you hit the jackpot.i just programmed all the fuel boxes in and the ms did what it was told.i still need to learn more about datalogging .i kind of skipped that part.i need a better laptop than my 1995 ibm thinkpad with the 10 minute battery.
  6. if you have connectors mismatches there is a company the ford dealers have replacment connectors-just solder and shrink tube it on.sensors work the same.
  7. not only high perf cars like mustangs got good engines.its usually cheaper to get a lincoln motor.and who beats on lincolns?if you want a big motor try a lincoln navigator.5.4l 32 valve.
  8. crispy chicken-what kind of cars are you working on?i know fords dont pay.or are you working it with the pen?
  9. whats starting pay for gearbox mechanic?california is going down the tubes but thats another story.
  10. i have 2 cas units laying around.i fired my ms off of cherry hall sensor and magnets in flywheel.very simple-drill holes-mount parts.
  11. joshua-in california your wife would be shopping for an attorney on that hatchet job firing.never sign anything without legal advice first.since i used to work as a ford dealer tech i am now on unemployment-the management at car dealerships in california seem to think that everything can be done cheap by illegal aliens .
  12. advice from laid off 20+ year journeyman ford tech-get out of this trade while your young.it makes a fun hobby -but you will find that the dealership service managers have found many ways to rape you with the flat rate pay system.get a mitchell time manual and study it for awhile.most warrenty times will pay 1/2 to 2/3 of mitchell time.the trade schools say you will make big bucks -but they dont explain flat rate pay system.when you get to be 40+ years old and you are broke ,have hand and back problems and your other buddies are making over $100k a year you will wonder what happened.i was working at a union shop getting $24 an hour straight time-but of cousre the dealership owner wants to bust the union.when the tech next to me had 40 hours changing head gaskits on crappy 6.0 diesel pick-up and warrrenty clerk comes out to the shop and tells the tech fords only paying 18 hours tthe shop had to eat it because it was a union shop-in a flat rate shop you would have worked 22 hours for FREE
  13. you need some kind of labscope to start doing some kind of source-to output signal tracing.if you have a 280zxt coil brackit with the transistor on it the ms will fire that-but the main thing with ms is the various settings(software,jumpers,pull-up resistors)that have to be researched to get it to work.i made a test probe out of led's to check my wiring.
  14. i use a cherry hall sensor to fire my megasquirt-works good.some car axles have a built in speed sensor for abs system and that can be used for speedo input.easy way to calibrate after install is with hand held gps.
  15. the state is also investigating muscle/restored cars because of understated value and the possabilty of lost revenue at dmv.i heard on another website that the dmv raided boyd coddington's shop to check titles on the cars.komifornia has a basic registration fee+ a tax on the value of the vehicle.even though the new motorcycle i bought in 2002 is worth 1/2 now i still get charged the the same as when it was new.i am ready to move to a new state.
  16. since i work as a ford tech i tried bolting a l28 zxt t5 bellhousing to a mustang t5.wouldnt work.the input bearing retainer on mustang t5 is slightly larger-but could be machined down.didnt get past that part.but if my turbo engine starts shredding the 82 na trans it will have to be switched to world class t5.
  17. i am a licensed smog tech in komifornia.i have a 77z with zxt motor.the megasquirt will work better but technically the zxt engine can only run all stock efi system and all other systems like evap system must be working.i did the install on my car and it passed at the ref first try.they issue a sticker for your door jam.about ms-i wouldnt install it until car is passed at the ref station.then you will need to figure out how to make it control egr.no egr=high nox output.my car is no longer registered in ca.the stock zxt efi system hits the limit very early as far as horse power goes.the ref will go over the whole car when you get it inspected.then be prepared for test only every 2 years.i couldnt test my own car when i used to work at a ford dealership.but i used the smog machine to test my car and check my repairs before going to test only station.to make the car pass you should have a very good understanding of emission systems.also be aware that things like old partially plugged fuel injectors and poor connections at sensors will cause hours of frustration-whren i swapped my motor in i used new injectors and alot of new supporting parts.so if you try to cut corners you will cause problems with may trips to ref station and dmv to get 1 month temp sticker.
  18. i used to work for a ford dealer where i smog tested the used cars for the lot.got ahold of an s2000 one morning-decided it needed a long test drive.i like those cars but if i got 1 i would leave it alone and just change the oil.2004& up has a slightly bigger engine for more midrange torque.problem with a highly developed car is bolt on hp mods dont produce much bang for the buck.honda has pretty much got all the hp they can from 2.2l.if you spent bucks for a cold air kit and exhaust you might see 10hp on a chassis dyno.the only other topless car thats cheap is a miata.to small and too slow for me.since i am an auto mechanic for a living fixing cars in my spare time isnt fun anymore-thats why a clean stock s2000 gets my vote.
  19. sound like what is happening to amercan cars-assembled in mexico.europe is moving many car plants to former communist countries for cheaper wages.
  20. what ever you do dont move to california.about 25% to 30% of the cars on the road arent insured and are owned by illegal aliens or white trash meth fiends.that leaves the rest of the law abiding citizens to pay .i pay $1200 a year for full coverage on my 96 ford e150 van.46 with no tickets.
  21. there is a pad cast into the engine block on lower left side where a.c is mounted on l28.if somebody was good at welding and fab they could goto pick&pull and get a supercharger off of a middle 90's ford tbird sc for $100 or so and get busy with the welder.the pad has 4 threaded holes in it.
  22. send injectors to rc engineering to get flush and flow tested-they will send a printout back with flow test results.i sent them the injectors for my merc outboard boat motor and they got them balenced to within 1%
  23. my brother sells real estate-when it comes to local land scams you would be surprised at the bs that goes around.the city will hold you responsible for keeping the lot clean and free of weeds.might be better to try to sell out if you can get a good price.it might be a good idea to find out what the real story is behind all those vacant lots.good luck
  24. better hurry-somebody will get the crank out of it.i have went back to p&p many times only to find what i wanted gone.
