  1. With the innards of that left dogleg exposed, could you take a close photo that shows how the seatbelt weld-nut is reinforced? Send it via cell phone to 256-366-4685? I'm hoping the sheetmetal is more than one layer thick there...I need to prove to an inspector that the weld it is unlikely to rip thru the metal in a crash-hope Im right!
  2. I think you are flying thru this build! Can you throw up a pic some time that shows the brackets you made to support the rear hatch pins? At this rate I think you will get some track time this summer! Are you retaining a heater/defroster? It is looking great!
  3. That is absolutely amazing that you have the skills to create panels like that. I bet you could line up some guys to buy those from you. Looking forward to seeing the fronts. Make sure you plan the opening for the front while turning the wheel back and forth to allow an adequate opening for caster changes. Make them have more clearance in the front than you really think you need. Great stuff!
  4. No offense taken, but you are hanging out at the wrong dragstrips and concentrating your thoughts on the lower level cars. Take a look at modern funny cars and you will change your tune. However, drag racers have a lot more to consider than folks think. Often, the race is won or lost in the first 0.001 seconds of the race when the car is almost standing still. Not much speed to generate aero forces at that point. It is also because of aero concerns that the fast cars use 4-link suspensions with adjustments to keep the car down-the car that hoists the nose usually looses and often has lots of repairs to do when they get their broken stuff home. Drag racers do care about aero, but it is lower on the priority list for understandable reasons. Don't think I'm hot because of the long answer, I always write long posts. I still think that most racers use that wing for looks, same reason why most ricers slam their cars on the pavement. I sure as heck care whether my car looks cool, don't you?
  5. I'm jealous, I only get it once every couple of months! Middle-age, married with kids has its plus-es and minuses. That's why I'm on hybridz so much. Lots more plus-es than minuses. Ok, I will stop abusing your thread and get back to freezing at the beach.
  6. Gopro is for chicks and punks in hoodies and flat-brimmed ball caps. Pull up your pants, buy a belt, quit posting all those selfies and post some timeslips! I'll send you the $15 gate fee if you spent all your money on strippers and prison tats.
  7. Sure, it's ok to shave some rubber off. I would put a nut on the shaft as insurance even after taping the plate.
  8. You'd have to know me better to understand that was all just fun harassment. Thanks for the backup rags!
  9. I'm down for a set of 240z door panels. Holes only for window crank and door latch. Glossy. PM me if/when you get to it.
  10. Where did you get those swaybar saddles (super sweet!)? Also, you need to have a spacer made to move the swaybar about 1/2" off the frame, or your swaybar will kiss the frame rail, kink the sheetmetal and wreck your paint. To check to see if this is the case, loosen your strut collar all the way and jack up a front control arm till it is level. Then check sway bar to frame clearance. Then raise the control arm a couple inches more to simulate a hard bump. If the swaybar stays clear of the frame rail, disregard this discussions.
  11. When you gonna quit all this gay (I mean that with all love and respect) stuff like paint and consoles, and get us a timeslip? I mean, my gosh, I been following this build for like 10 years-is it too much to ask to get your ass to someplace with some timers and dump the friggin' clutch? I thought you were at least running Tx2k15, so I've been waiting to see how that went for you, but with 3 fast Zs in the area, only one of you got down the track at like part-throttle! Aahh! You are Will's testbed and the only active forum member with a squeeze box mounted on the top of your motor, so go get us some damn data!!!!!! (Edited to clean up language).
  12. Use your cell phone and send us a pic of the top of your strut's shaft. Usually, the threads are smaller than the diameter of the shaft. So, you just drill the hole so just the threaded portion sticks thru. The shaft rests on the little plate that you drilled thru. After you get that figured out you need to figure out how you will mate the spring to the steering bearing. But lets do one step at a time. Use your cellphone to post some pics so we are on the same page.
  13. I searched a lot for wind tunnel testing discussions on this type wing. So far I have just found manufacturers claims. I don't know what a "wicker" is. That's what I will research next.
  14. Guys going over 150 aren't that much smarter than you and me-they just spend more of their wife's money on their cars. They still buy parts for the same reason stated above. Or was that a poke because Ive only been 148? Haha! But seriously, I wonder if the mustang/X275 community has done an aero-comparo like the one done in the Wind Tunnel forum here? Basically those little horizontal wings off the hatch just lengthen the car, but I don't know what that actually does for downforce. I'm thinking that perhaps it has more to do with reducing drag, in theory anyway. I'm curious too, so I will look around and see if I can find any info, too. I'm at the beach wishing I was in the garage, anyway.
  15. I'm doing fine with sheetmetal screws after a year. The problem I see with nutserts is the huge hole you have to drill into the fender. And the holes on these flares don't line up brand-to-brand. So, if you bust a flare that has been discontinued,, you got a bunch of big holes in the wrong place. Lots easier to fix a smaller hole....
  16. Top bolt is factory. Somebody has done a repair on the hub associated with the lower bolt. It probably doesn't matter if they did a nice job drilling and tapping it for the new thread pitch. If the bolts go in smoothly by hand, I'd run it. Unless you just really want another project (that doesn't net a performance gain).
  17. Problems I have with my gopro: 1) I forget to turn it on. 2) I forget to turn it off, 3) the battery is always dead when I remember to turn it on (see #2). I'm going to try a remote speaker next time so you can hear the tail pipe (all you hear now is rocks hitting the inner fenders).
  18. I don't know the true answer to your question, but the reason why MOST "serious" drag racers run that style of wing is because that was what the last guy who beat them was running.
  19. I'm using the camaro alternator bracket. I'm not changing anything-with the rest of the car, who has time to work on powerplant? I just saw your post, and Mikelly's for sale post and I was trying to play matchmaker, hoping to help both of you.
  20. Nobody's flares are flush with the bottom. These flares are a compromise solution and never fit well. If yours don't rub the tire when you hit bumps, you are good.
