L6 monster getting close....look here
greenmonster80 replied to greenmonster80's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Between being gone everyweek and having limited time on the weekends it has taken longer than expected. Plus I got sidetracked for 2 months on the 3 Z's I had gotten. Oh well. Soon enough it should be ready to go.. -

Finally got my headgasket in. Tomei 1.25mm 90.5 bore. Hope to have the cam loosely fitted this weekend..Anybody in L.A. busy next weekend. Hope someone who has done cams a couple times can make sure I do things right... -
I am in total agreeance with the masses. Real nice work and a bang up idea. If one decided to replicate this idea except with a tapering filler panel that would solve the door work...Again real nice looking project..

I built a pretty mean N/A motor while my car was at the body shop. About halfway thru I started thinking , "should I turbo as well". Even went as far as purchasing a killer tako ashi exhaust header and t07 turbine w/ external HKS wastegate. Even found the HKS type 2 surge tank to plumb the ITB's through. Then started thinking," will I have room for all of this under the hood?". Not sure so I went back to the N/A. I know I will be happy with the N/A as it is bigger, badder and much meaner than the previous motor. However I still have a P90 and 2mm headgasket sitting in a box just incase it does all fit. (KGC10 engine rooms are little smaller). However if I was going to spend money to build and engine for the Z car, I would have to turbo the car. For the price to performance ratio - cannot beat it..Room for future upgrades are inspiring as well..

Funny how you are asking about transmissions. I had been researching transmission combinations all day for another persons car. (The project I will be helping with this summer mentioned above). From what I gather. This is what I know. I do not have the transmissions in front of me but I can verify everything this April when I am in Florida working the swap. The FJ20 transmission is identical to the turbo 280zx T5. The Fj and L6 share the same bellhousings as well. Now we all know that the KA tranmsission can be swapped over to work with the l6 as long as you use the L6 bellhousing and counter shaft bearing. This may be an easy fix for you as the 240sx is in every junkyard around. However the gear ratio's in it are better suited for turbo applications. That being said look for a 4 or 5 speed z car transmission. I am unsure what driveshaft mods will be needed. (longer or shorter). Hopefully between the different seies 1 , regular 240 and 280zx driveshaft something bolts in. If not then an aftermarket driveshaft is not that expensive, relatively speaking. ----After thought----The Fj is a great torque producing motor and the turbo models are absolutely great. However I personally would not bother with the engine if it were not a turbo. Money could be spent else where and have a nice, reliable easy to source parts motor combo. However I do understand the I WANT TO BE DIFFERENT mindset. This is the disease that sent me spiraling out of control building my KAKIMOTO spec 3.1 motor. $10,000 later I am close to starting it for the first time. As soon as BRAAP sends me my cam...

I know of a 5-speed 240z series 1 in the classifieds section. Around the same price range. I know the seller and am sure he could work out delivery to you if need be....

Well got the motor in tonight. Just a trial fit. I still have lots I want to do with the engine. Waiting for a Rb25det bellhousing as well. Going to be concentrating on rebuilding / upgrading the braking system first. I just recently got all the body panels to fit together. Not to start lining them up. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=13292&size=big&cat=500&ppuser=9707 Haven't figured out how to do the post thing with the MAC yet. Right click does not have a properties option. Easy to use but a pain sometimes..PC world...

The deep lipped Hayashi rims are sharp looking. I hope to be able to get in on the next group buy for these. I need some time to get rid of my current 9.5jj fronts and 12jj rears. Looking to switch from magnesium to the aluminium machined lip style this summer. The estimated prices on these sound pretty good. Expensive wheels but this is about as close as you are going to get for new waatanabes...

Agree with Joel. Don't be skimpy with the pics....Hope to have mine loaded this weekend. Got the mounts from Stony. Less computer time and more outside worky time.....

J Hot imports in Atlanta have them from time to time. I know a turbo motor, transmissionand wiring harness with computer was bought from them by one of my closest friends for under 1K. True they are out in Georgia but you cannot always have it all in Ca. The above mentioned motor will be set in his car this summer. Brand new FJ stuff is still available from Nissan Japan. I bought the rebuild kit for the above motor while I was on vacation for under $300.

Make sure you get a quality balancer and get it balanced with the whole assy from balancer to pressure plate.

After much debate and soul searching I ordered a cam thru Braap. Cam is actually coming from Rebello. It is a 520 lift D50 230, Adv 275. Thanks to all who have helped me thru the decision making process. I am sure I will be more than happy with the performance. Unfortunately I will not be able to make the SEZ show as I had hoped. I will be able to make the NOPI MIAMI show in APRIL (14-15). Hope to see many HYBRID z members there. I will make a follow up appearance in L.A JUNE (30-1) July. Again hope to see many Z car fans there as well. You won't be able to miss me. I will look like a fool next to my 3 yr project KGC10. -

greenmonster80 was my drink of choice for years. Gin is 80 proof and with some mountain dew it has a green color.

The XR500 piston combo is usually with the L14 rods. Off center bush the small end to get the rod length to 139mm. FJ20 rods have a 22mm pin size. I think that nissan actually made a sports option piston with a 22mm pin size. Possibly for the FJ but not sure. KEW and Kakimoto both have rod, piston combos with these 140mm rods for decades.

I think their mounts are for the 240sx

Well I finally found the car to put this engine into. A 1970 240z. It is stripped and nothing but a shell. But boy is she beautiful to me. I still have another project in the way but by the end of January I hope to start stiffening the chassis and upgrading the suspension and brakes since there is nothing there to begin with.

I have often thought that a gts-4 drivetrain might work out a little nicer since it is more narrow than the GTR.
