in wisconsin it may soon be open season on cats
2126 replied to waynekarnes's topic in Non Tech Board
Tim, I think you missed your calling....you should have become a comedian. Now I don't care where your from....that's some funny stuff!!! -
Well, you don't want to remove the top portion of the strut, because you won't have any threads to screw the retaining nut back into...unless of course you plan to cut new threads. Also, I'm assuming you are not installing coil-overs! If my assumption is correct, do you plan to also lower the bottom spring perch since you plan to remove 2" of the strut? One additional note...this is an important structural part so have it welded by a certified welder or someone who really knows what they're doing....a strut failure wouldn't be much fun.

After you purchase the paint-ball gun set-up, you may want to consider a trip to Wisconson for some target pratice on the feral cats!!!

pending and curent california smog and auto related laws
2126 replied to waynekarnes's topic in Non Tech Board
It all seems so stupid (typical politician mentality) to even think about the 30+ year old cars! You have to ask yourself...what's the total percentage of old cars on the road now days? Not very many. And alot of them are owned by car folks like us who likely keep them in sufficient tune, so polution is minimal. And when was the last time you saw an officer of the law pull over an old clunker that smoking to high heaven to get them off the road? Now lets look at all those BIG RIGS spewing out all that black crap.....gee, I wonder what that percentage is compared to the old cars? I think you all know what I'm talking about. Baastard525 hit the nail on the head! It's about the money and I might add, their personal agendas. It's about as rediculuous as trying to impose gun control laws. Got me all fired up....I'll stop now! -

How about importing herds of hungry wild hyenas......a cats worst nightmare. yeh, that it, hyenas!!! Here's a bizar idea....fill balls (paint-ball balls) with dog urine and blast the cats with them....would make their lives miserable. Can you imagine a cat trying to run away from itself. Just some creative thinking outside the box. -
Interesting factoid! In every country, except the USA, that the 914-4s was sold, badged the 914 as a Volkswagen...only the USA cars were badged with the Porsche badge. Fun cars for sure!!!

This would never happen on HybridZ would it???

My all time favorite is the guy that posts....."My Z doen't run! What do I need to do?" You just got to wonder! -
You say it was stored in a climate controlled building! From the looks of the 460's external condition, it was the WRONG climate and after the fact that it sat out in the weather for 15 years before being placed in the climate controlled building! I'd say if you are getting both for under $100.00....go for it. Otherwise I think you will be buying someones old problems. Don't let your emossion regulate your purchase. These old 460's with carbs typically get 12 mpg at best, and weigh a ton. Like they say....live and learn! Good luck!

Pretty sad and very funny at the same time! On the video clip you can hear one of his buddies say...."go twice as fast this time". Yea right!!! I quess this is one way to help keep the gene pool in check!!? A shear case of someone's ego being greater than their brain.

Aftermarket Fuel Gauge Question / Problems
2126 replied to mas8230's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
I suppose one could install a variable resistor (reostat) in the circuit and with a full tank of fuel, adjust the resistor until the gauge reads full. Basically the sending unit in the fuel cell is also a variable resistor with a float attached to it and as the fuel level changes, so does the position of the sending unit reostat.....hence varying the voltage to the gauge. I also think that adjusting the bend in the sending unit float arm you could achieve the same results. Hope this help some. Maybe someone else will chime in and add to this info. -
17x10 rims and tires, questions.
2126 replied to JaysZ's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Jayz, wheel spec questions are as old as dirt. Here is a simple way to figure out what spacing you need. 1st - with your existing tires/wheels in place, measure how much clearance you have (inside & outside) regarding the wheel to body/chassis. 2nd - figure out the offset of the wheel. 3rd - make an accurite sketch of the wheel and then the clearances you have measured from the wheel to body/chassis. 4th - overlay a sketch of the size wheel you want on the sketch of your existing wheel so it is centered properly between the inside of the chassis and the inside of the outer fender. 5th -When you are satisfied with the new wheel placement, calculate the offset of the new wheel by using the location of your existing wheel's mounting flange. This will give you the necessary offset for your custom wheels withoput using any spacers. Note: Generally speaking, when going to a wheel wider than 8" on the back, you will need to install coilovers to provide for the additional clearance. I have 17"x 9" wheels (with 235-40 x 17 tires)on the rear of my 240 and I don't think I could go with a wider wheel without altering the fender lip. My rear tire/wheel setup does not extend beyond the stock fender lip and does not rub any under bump. Hope this helps you figure out the wheels you plan to have made...good luck Jayz! -
Ah come on guys......that's Bruce Lee's cat!!!!

Have you ever heard that old saying..."If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!!!" Think about it for a second. How do you suppose one would get more power from way less fuel........maybe via magic! To me, it's just another ploy on people's emotions. Then again, and I'm thinking of a line Tim used, go out and buy a set, put them in your engine, test drive for a week or two, and let us know how they pan out!!!

Rebuilding 82/83 rear calipers
2126 replied to Cody 82 ZXT's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Oh, the memories are coming back......when I pulled mine apart to redo them, the needle bearings were shot! What I did was to machine a bronze bushing to replace the needle bearing. I had never seen a needle bearing assembly with the side cut out for a rod to pass through it. Anyway, the bronze bushing worked out perfectly. Again....these are some of the memories that I'd just as soon forget about....that a PITA!!! -

Thanks for bringing up memories I'd rather forget about!!! Man, I remember having a few words with God when I rebuilt mine. What a pain in the *** they were to redo! -
Tim, Please ship mine.....I included the $5.00 for shipping. Thanks Tim, Tom

Owen, Have you done a search on the NET for "Sight Gauges" or "Level Gauges"....?

Looks like a real nice job you did there Mat. I don't see any cross bracing on the main hoop. Isn't it important to have some sort of triangulation to prevent the main hoop from collapsing, in the event of a serious roll-over?

Looks as though you are pretty new to the site. There is a function called SEARCH that can guide you to many, many answers! Also, doing a search on the internet works pretty good as well. Something like....DATSON PERFORMANCE PARTS. Don't mean to be harsh, but it seems like most new posters are looking for freebee answers. I suspect that most of the techy guys on this site aquired their knowledge by doing. Please help yourself to the search function. By the way....WELCOME TO THE BEST Z CAR SITE ON THE PLANET.

You might consider trying the search function regarding the T5 tranny...its been discussed numerous time. But, basically it will work fine....but then again, maybe not for long at a drag strip. It just depends on your driving habits. If you're a young guy with a lack of self control, its likely not a good choice. But that just my 2 cents worth.

who's looking over your shoulder ? your insurance company ?
2126 replied to waynekarnes's topic in Non Tech Board
I'm a believer in.....we came make a difference!!! The best way to stop this kind of BS is, just don't buy their crap. Or you can be just like the rest of the sheople in this country, get in line, and chew on whatever is given to you. There is just less and less freedom now days! Why, because we allow it to be that way. Take a stand and stick up for your beliefs.....the alternative is to follow the heard! Baaah, baaah, baaah...........
