  1. I believe it's been address elsewhere about moving the LCA pivot point out, not just the relocation up! The only reasons one would want to relocate the LCA pivot point is for reducing bumpsteer...which involves getting the LCA pivot points and the steering link pivot points in the same horizontal plane as well as ensuring the the two are of equal length. Moving the LCA pivot points out have the potential to make your situation worse than before, because you will then have to increase the length (by adjustment) of your steering links in order to obtain proper toe! Just some food for thought!
  2. tony78_280z, I hope you know I'm just pulling on your string a bit for a bit of humor. I certainly agree that throughing out ideas, wether good or bad, does tend be the process for eventually coming up with something really good and worth while (brainstorming...as it was stated by cygnusx1). But please don't accuse me of saying something I did not! I never said the EFI, turbocharges, superchargers, and nitrous are simply the end of the line for ideas that will create boost. What I was trying to point out, as you are fully aware of, is that this is where the evolution of induction systems has evolved to, at this point in time. Again, I agree about throughing out ideas, as one of my personal beliefs is......Listen to all ideas, good and bad, because that one dumb idea you may thing is really dumb maybe the one that sparks the idea in your head that enables you to come up with an excellent solution to a problem! So, I'm all for getting involved in brainstorming, but I do like to through in a bit of humor now and then.
  3. From what I know, the speed density systems are very limited as far as aquiring additional horsepower when compared to a MAF or TBI system. Because Ford does not use this system anymore, should lend a clue on it's capability.
  4. After reading this post......maybe you guys should cut back a little on what ever you're smoking. Good imaginations do make grand ideas, but the hard part is incorporating it into a practical and efficient working system....isn't that why we currently have EFI, turbocharges, supercharged, and nitrous? P.S. I good friend once said, when asked if he smoked the herb anymore........" Well, I don't smoke it anymore.....but then again, I don't smoke it any less either!!"
  5. Sounds to me like you guys need to seek out more reputable sources to work on your Z...or just learn to do it yourself. But it seems like you guys have it all figured out and know how to deal with such F'd up situations...I quess that comes with experience!!!
  6. Quite the spiteful fellow you are! Yah, that's it...though a little more fuel on the fire. That should get your engine back for sure!!? How about contacting the authorities (cops) and simply explain your situation. Then, at least you won't have a pissed off mechanic looking for you because you were trying to hit on his girlfriend...well, OK X-girlfriend.
  7. I think your friend has a point, to some degree! I meam, when was the last time you checked the Air Bags, shoulder restraint, crush zone, ABS, etc., on your old Z...get my point. But hey, it's technology that's over 30 years old! Another point....these old Z cars weigh in from say 2300 to 2800 lbs! Even the smallest of the new cars today (OK there may be some exceptions)weight in at about 3000 lbs. The point being......1 1/4 tons (old Z) vs 2 to 3 ton SUVs (with women on cell phone)...who do you think will win that battle? I quess you could always install a rollcage, 5 point harnesses and use a helmet and a Haun's device!
  8. Just a word to the wise.......I don't think it's wise to be posting the condition or non-condition of your smog equipment on any website. What do you all think.......do you think maybe big brother is out there watching us all???
  9. What a crack up!!! Next thing you know, people will be trying to sue God for all disasters. It's almost as funny as the law suit against McDonalds, when some stupid person wasn't smart enough to figure out that hot coffee is HOT and tried sueing McDonalds based on their own ignorance. Oh well...stupid law suits come from stupid people....go figure!!?
  10. You mentioned you have new stub axle bearings. Are the stub axle retaining nuts properly torqued (200+ ft/lbs..see torque specs) and did you use the recommended procedure to determine that you have the correct rotating resistance on the stub axles after torquing. Just a thought. But to determine a specific noise would be next to impossible, based on what you have provided....there's just to many variables. So, you know the drill....it's the old process of elimination...check one item at a time and move on to the next, unless the alignment guy left someting loose. Good luck there jeromio!
  11. Thanks Pete, That's the kind of stuff I wanted to hear.
  12. I'm sure you're right about that one!!! At least you'd have some fun burning up the cash as opposed to buying an envelope with who knows what inside! Maybe.....just maybe this casino is behind the mystery envelope gig to begin with, in the hopes of some cheap advertising or something. Ahhh, who cares anyway!
  13. I would quess that many have had that same idea however, have you ever seen anything on a BMW that is resonably priced!!? Fine engines but you'll pay for sure and then you have to deal with the tranny ($$$) and the necessary wiring harness. It would be pretty cool though!
  14. There is an old saying. It goes like this...."A fool and his money soon part!!" Come on, who in their right mind would bid on an envelope with unknown contents?

    New Toys

As it was once explained to me, its not a question of "IF" you will have an accident, but only a matter of "WHEN". If you really want to learn to handle a motorcycle, get some dirt bikes so your not exposed to cars and can explore the limits of your capabilities without paying the ultimate price! Just some free advise from an old motorcycle guy, who has many many miles on and off the track. Good luck and keep the rubber side down.
  16. Why is that? Could it be that the glass top lack support??? Or are you just trying to stir up a bit of conversation because you're bored? Hummmmmm!
  17. Since I'm a curious fellow TheNeedForZ, please enlighten me on how engine RPM increases as the speed of a vehicle decreases! Some how I get the feeling you have the right ideas in your advise but I don't think your explaining them with technical correctness. Example: "The only way to practically "increase" (relatively speaking) engine braking power is to reduce the weight of the vehicle." How about inreasing the compression of the engine (practicle), or how about changing the ratio in the differential (practicle), or changing tranny gearing (practicle)? Also, I'm still curious about the value of obtaining such information, especially since the brakes are intended for slowing a car down not the engine. Just curious!!!
  18. Questions are always a good thing, I believe, and wouldn't it be all too boring if no questions were asked. But, I always get a chuckle when someone asks a question that's so basic, you are almost assured the person asking the question has little to no knowledge about anything mechanical in nature and even if you politely provide this person with an answer you have to wonder if they understand the answer or if they could actually exicute it by themselves. We've all seen many of these questions posted over the years. The devil in me always fights to though out some sarcastic answer, but I reframe and remember that once upon a time I was not as knowledgable as I have become (believe me, its taken over 50+ yrs and it aint over yet)....so I just write it off as free entertainment. Gotta love this site and it's members!!!
  19. Again......just out of curiousity, for what purpose would this information be useful for? Do you have a specific goal in sight? Do you plan to equate this info into some type of performance related issue? I credit your imagination for sure! P.S. So what substance prompted these thoughts?
  20. I quess my first question would be....why? However, if you decide to calculate it out, consider the variable. Like rear tire diameter, diff ratio, tranny ratios, engine compression, car weight, aero package items, straight line or during cornering, etc., etc. As you may have already imagined there are many variables to consider. Your question is interesting, but aren't the brakes the responsible party for slowing the car down? Just curious about why you would want to know this information!!?
  21. PBGreg21, I think what 240Z_Master is saying is, MSA tends to have high prices on alot of their items that with a little searching can be purchased for less from other vendors. In defense of MSA (business wise anyway), when a company carries items in stock that are generally considered low volume movers it cost the company to have them sit on their shelves. The benifit to a customer is that he doesn't have to do the leg work to find said product and it is available right now. Heres my favorite example....Item in question, the Mallory UniLite distributor. From MSA you will now pay about $600.00 for this baby. I thought this was a bit high so I did a little research (this is the leg work I was talking about) and aquired the correct part number for the distributor, then called Summit Racing with a request for price and availability. Summit's price was about $375.00 (way better price) but I had to wait a week or two before I received it. So, if you are not the inquisitive type and don't mind the extra cost, MSA is a good supplier! Just my $0.02
